A weird thing, in the UK when talking about how cold it is, everyone including TV refers to centigrade i.e -5c etc.

But when they want to talk about how hot it is, they refer to fahranheit ie 30f.

No wonder we are all confused!

Oh and if you bought loose veg you would buy 1 lb potatoes etc.
But then about 15 years ago, maybe longer, the government tried to get everyone to use kilos.

The smaller shops and markets refused as it meant they all had to buy new scales and also their customers did not want to
ask for 2.2 kilos or potatoes - it just did not have the same ring to it!

So in the end the government backed down and allowed market stalls to keep on selling in pounds, but over the years more and more have started to use kilos.

But it means that in the UK we now have to learn both measurements. Trust me its far easier now just to ask for a bag of
spuds!

Without the french 'you' would probably have lost the war of independence and the USA as we know it wouldn't even exist today.
So some respect for your oldest ally please. :p
I will do my best to insult my grandparents' Syrian heritage in the process.

Vive la France!

Chicory History
"It is known that its use in this form was widespread in France after Napoleon initiated the 'Continental Blockade' in 1808, which deprived the French of most of their coffee. ... When the blockade was lifted the French continued to use chicory as an additive because they believed it was good for one's health and improved the flavor of coffee."
About Chicory Coffee - Still Perkin' Coffee Shop

The metric system improves the flavor no more than a snail crawling across my front yard that I decide to weigh in grams or ounces before I eat it.

Even THE OFFICIAL MAGAZINE OF THE FRENCH MILITARY is printed in the world's lingua franca, English.

I had a German friend tell me the French are good at three things, cooking, complaining and surrendering.

Would we have won the war of independence without the French? I'm not a history expert, but I don't think we would have.
