Wow. Different worlds, eh? We've never had any political anything in our Australian Lutheran churches (besides a small prayer for country and world leaders etc.) Sorry you had to experience that.
What was startling was it was LCMS and not ELCA and that it was supposed to have been 'Confessional' sticking true to the BOC.

Maybe in America but not here. I'm in an Eastern Orthodox country.
You cant even sit there lest lay down lol
Manmade doctrines... you know, they believe that if your flesh is in standing position and not sitting or laying down you're worshiping God "better" or fearing God more or whatever... works of the flesh... and of course everybody who is sitting down or laying down unless they are ill, is sinning or worshiping/praying wrong or something to that effect.
God said I want mercy and not sacrifice. If someone is that tired to fall asleep, then go rest and worship God when you wake up. And reorganize your life and time to get better rest and the prayer time you want. God makes time when we ask Him too.
They are trying with their flesh to do the "works" of worship, they also wake up at night to worship trying to be like David of the Bible, it is all man's works and not stirred up by the Spirit of God in most cases I've seen enough to say that... they act like God will be angry with them if they dont do this "work" and stand their half an hour or whatever... as if God needed our worship... oh I better stop because I have much to rant about regarding Eastern Catholicism. Very ascetic in nature.
I worship at home, no matter if I stand or lay down :)
Man! I wouldn't even let the door hit me in the hind quarters, I would be outta there so fast.

I have an strong aversion to Liturgy that probably borders on fanaticism.

Well Blond proceeds to walk up the main isle to find a seat after a ladies room visit and a lady toward the back grabbed my skirt and gave it a yank as it was stuck in my pantyhose. Thank God it was at the very back of the church and I didn't parade all the way to the front with my backside hanging out....Yes embarrassed to the hilt....and thankful for my sister who helped me out.

My family is a mix of denominations, we have baptists, catholics, first presbyterians and I'm sure we've got some other denominations as well (my grandma was a lutheran). Anyways, my first visit to a lutheran church became an embarrasing experience to me:(...I didnt know when to sit or when to stand up, and I didnt know the songs, and when we got to the communion, everybody ran off to the reverend and left me sitting in my seat untill my late grandma remembered that her non lutheran grand child was left in her seat not knowing up from down...LOL...she told me that I had to come with her and receive it...the entire congregation was looking at me when I approached the reverend, who was waiting...on me...it was super embarrasing...;)
I have serious problems with this sort of thing. There is one thing we do, for certain, at our church, and that is to see to it that visitors never, ever find themselves in that sort of position.

This is the prevailing attitude that should be in all churches.

Interesting. My church is closest to the LCMS.

I'm finding these days you can hardly go by a denom name, but rather take them on an individual basis.
