That's why I think he should have written her. He is still pursuing her but more discretely. It gives her a chance to really think about whether or not to continue the relationship. If not, they could always stay friends.

He should have DEFINITELY not have written to ask for his money back, that would be ungentlemanly and being a cad. Besides, the outlay was to get a good story- not to give her an adventure. She would have left the throne and gone with him, but he let her go. It was his loss. He did not declare himself, so what is she to do? Find another man who WON’T be so namby pamby with her.

The asking for money back would be tongue-in-cheek and playful. It has nothing to do with the money. It is just an excuse to write to her.

There was a bag of pistachios that I bought from the store. I was nibbling on them for about a week or so, maybe less. Wasn't even through with the bag when I stumbled upon this rotten one that tasted like feces. Can't figure that one for the life of me. Threw the rest of 'em away. (It was funny, so I'm mentioning it.) :p Ran down the hallway to the bathroom to spit it out.

I miss pistachio pudding. My grandmother used to make it for me when I was a child.

Yes, true. But she made her decision. She chose duty over love.

They wanted to paint the sad reality that not everyone gets that happy ending. You could be in love with someone, but unable to be with them, for whatever reason.

I was just hoping for that happy ending, for her to change her mind. He waited for her, after everyone had left, but she didn't appear. Just a sad ending for me.

The bad nut may have had a worm in it. I have had that happen from time to time. I try to check the nut before I put it in my mouth.

The rest of the bag was probably good.

Maybe I am recalling the plot incorrectly, but as I remember it, he rejected her. She wanted him, but he gave her up because he did not want to deprive her of her throne. I don’t think it is that sad. He obviously did not love her enough to fight for her, so that opens her up for someone who will love her completely. I haven’t seen it in a long time, though.

When I was looking for a meme I came across some scary looking ones with dead bugs found inside the pistachios. Now I find myself biting it in half to check first :eek:

I don't think they could have fallen in love in just 24 hours. It would not have been wise for her to forfeit her throne just because she had a fun day with a stranger.

However, it seems to me that it would have been worth pursuing. Thus my suggesting they stay in contact with each other with the trumped up excuse in asking for his money back. Perhaps they would have been compatible with each other. They should have at least tried to find out.

Think we all need to go watch this film again, lol. I only saw it once, because I didn't like the sad ending.

It was the look she gave him that spoke volumes. He even waited for her as everyone left, but she didn't return.

I agree. You would hope he would fight for her, but did he care for her happiness, even if that meant they could not be together. And would both end up living with regrets...

From what I recall, she was looking at him hopefully and wistfully, hoping he would declare himself- but he did not. He was a coward. I dislike characters who think they know what is best for other characters. He had no idea what was best for her. He was the one choosing duty over love, it was his decision, not hers. It smacks too much of a God complex when one person says “I know what is best for you”. She was not happy as a princess.

It reminded me of How Green Was My Valley when the pastor gives up Angharred. He acts like God in her life, and her life was worse because he chose duty over love. Women generally choose love over duty, men are the “noble” ones who choose duty and feel all warm and fuzzy inside because of their self sacrifice that is not asked or wanted.

People fall in love that quickly all the time. The first time my grandfather saw my grandmother, he knew that she was the woman he wanted to marry. He went after her and married her. It happens frequently.

Royals do have a certain mentality. Queen Elizabeth had to sacrifice a lot for the crown. Reminds me also of princess Margaret's love affair with Peter Townsend...

I think the film just wanted to paint reality at the end.

I see it as what could have been...

But who knows, perhaps they spent the rest of their days with regrets, wondering "what if..."

Now, may just have to go watch it again :)

Yes, it happened to me... love at first sight. It was with the most unexpected person at the most unexpected time.

Many deny it's possible, but those who've experienced it know it's real...

It is unusual for women to fall in love at first sight, that is generally a man’s experience. At least you did not fall in love with the wrong man. I did, and it was no picnic, I can tell you.

My smeller doesn't work very well. I don't recall anything about a smell, though a normal person might have noticed.



I hope it wasn't anything like rabbit droppings.
