I work at a place where I call and try to get you to do a political survey over the phone. Damn people are just so rude sometimes when you call them. It's frustrating
I used to do telephone surveys, so I feel sorry for telephone surveyors, and I'm the sucker who did do them. I did do them, until the last one asked if I minded if the company would call me about once a week. I didn't mind. I did mind when it was a robo-call, the question was stupid, and they called me several times each week with the same stupid question. And I mind very much that don't-call-again means nothing to them, and shortly after that I got more companies calling me for surveys. So, yeah. Really. It's not you. It's the owner's business practices I object to.

I don't mind helping another human being. I mind being treated like a sucker by a robot.

I used to do telemarketing whenever I couldn't get another job. (Let's face it, doing the same thing over and over again is boring, and I did it back in the days before auto-calls and computers.) But I hate all the exceptions Congress made to the Do Not Call list, (mostly so they could fund their own campaigns.) And I really hate that the Do Not Call list means absolutely nothing anyway.

One funny story for you, and one reason somebody got a short, sharp answer from me.

Funny: I was selling IT journals and manuals to IT users. One day an IT professional sounded unusually distracted when I called. (IT guys, so chances are good they were trying to solve some IT problem when I called, so often distracted.) Back in those days we actually asked how someone was doing, after we told who we were and why we were calling. So, I asked.

And he said, "Well, right now the fire alarm is going off because there is a fire on the other side of this room."

I laughed, asked him why he picked up the phone, then told him to get off the phone and get out of the building.

So much for the new rule that says "never let them get away if you can help it." lol

Short, sharp answer from me, which might help you get a glimpse on what's going on with those who are rude to you.

When hubby was still in ICU, the hospital would average a call every other day either telling me to get there quickly because they weren't sure if he'd live much longer or they needed my verbal "signature" to okay yet another (emergency) operation or procedure on him.

At the same time, my brother was working the legal route to get Dad into assisted living, because Dad wasn't just off his rocker, he was 51 cards short of a full deck and living by himself. (Alzheimer -- end of Stage Two.) Now Dad was to the point of not ever remembering what was going on, but his emotions have never been more aware that something is seriously wrong. All he knew was my brother was doing something something and something something about Dad not having home soon. He really couldn't put two and two together, but he kept staring at those two 2s and he was terrified. (He's also OCD and an alcoholic, so nothing easy about what he was going through.) Dad has six kids. Dad was calling one after another after another to say something is wrong and he didn't like it. And, when he had talked to all six, he'd start over.

He called me 13 times between 8 PM and 1 AM one night. The last call, I told him -- again --that I needed to be off the phone for fear the hospital would call, and he asked, yet again, what's wrong with John. Only time in my life I hung up on Dad.

The next day, the hospital called, because they thought they were transferring John, and then they called back to tell me they couldn't until they dealt with bleeding tooth. (New part to his heart -- a valve -- so no way were they allowed to transfer him back to the VA until they extracted his teeth to make sure he wouldn't get an abscess that could break loose and land in or on his just-fixed heart.) And Dad started calling again. And I'm trying to get out of the house to go visit John.

But the phone rang again, and I really hate leaving Dad in this state of confusion... but nope. Wasn't Dad. Wasn't hospital. It was "your computer company calling because we detect there is a trojan horse in your computer." (Not a good sign, when they can't even tell which computer I have. And I'm not really so stupid to think the company that made my computer is going to call me.)

My response was fairly short, (every curse word I could think of and used in proper context
), and any sharper and my voice alone could have killed. But just so you know, sometimes it isn't you. (Assuming you aren't a scammer.) sometimes the person is having a very bad day and you're the only person he/she can take it out on.

I am a teacher, this year teaching art. It has been a lot of fun this year thus far. Hopefully, I'll be able to teach art next year as well.
My dream job -- only to be hampered by two little problems:
1. I can't do art well enough to show others how to do it.
2. I'm not a teacher.

Im in charge of signage in a retail outlet. I print all the signs we have for our products, as well as tickets and everything else. I find all the products that need the signs and labels and I post them : p

Its alot of paper work for a retail job.
You came very close to another dream job of mine. I'd love to make signs/business marketing items on paper for a living, but I want to truly create them before doing the printing.

New guy here. My first post.
I am just an old retired guy, 11 years now.
Before retirement I had 40 plus jobs in 40 plus cities.
The wife and I spent 45 years traveling this great country and loved every day of it.
Have you heard the saying, jack of all traded and master of none, that describes us.
Yeah, but which job did you have right before retiring?

I am a senior manufacturing engineering technician at a medical device manufacturing company. I keep the equipment running, and do continuous improvement on it, along with working with engineers to develop manufacturing processes.

The medical devices we make are neurostimulation devices for people with chronic pain.

I've been an equipment maintenance tech for nearly 35 years now, everything from plastic injection molding to semi-conductor...
Can I get a discount for knowing you, if/when the time comes I need one?

(I figure cute puppy works better than my mug shot. lol)

hub and I have discovered that our real 'jobs' start even before 'Conversion', the
in-between-time': many know exactly what we mean...'this is when God decides to begin
'preparing us' for our jobs that He has assigned to us already, upon our entry into His Holy Kingdom...

JOB 27:17.
He may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver.

PS. 9:7.
But The LORD shall endure for ever: He hath prepared His throne for Judgment.

PRO. 21:31.
The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of The LORD.

MATT. 20:23.
And He saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of My cup, and be baptized with the baptism
that I am baptized with: but to sit on My right hand, and on My left, is not Mine to give,
but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of My Father.

11TIM. 2:21.
If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified,
and meet for The mMaster's use, and prepared unto every good work

1COR. 2:9.
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man,
the things which God hath prepared for them that LOVE Him.

of His Holy Light, in order to be His Light to those whom He puts in our pathways...

While I agree with you, one must also buy food, and we are to do that with the sweat of our brow.
And I have done that!

Hub and I are currently, let me say it this way, 'on the 'outside-looking-in', once again', of a
'royal-demonic-family-battle going-on in our immediate vicinity', humongous scale!!!,
which involves surrounding, (3)sides of our 'land-home'...our house faces the 'EAST'...Praise God!:) -
the 'bad-seed', in all of this mess, they are even trying their best to con/callin-up,'pagan gods':rolleyes:

hub and myself are on the very back-side of the '60's+', point being, 'this is way BEYOND REALITY TV', as we
last saw it, which was about '3'+yrs. ago, and 'first saw all of the 'evil so blatently manifested! 'FluB a dub dub',
...I'm talking to my 'peers' here, and what we were exposed to in the very 'beginning', of the 'puter-cell-'NET'-
DREAM...

these people, are doing things that would stretch a 'rubber-band' to the point of 'breaking'...

Hub and I have to sit-wait-watch-pray' for the innocent ones that will have to eventually pay'...

we're here for them in every way that our Saviour will allow, but this is the curx, it has to 'always'
be His Way and in His Time...

Maybe I missed your point. This thread is about what kind of work we do or job we have.
I agree that our most important job is to do our Lord's will in our life. But we must not ignore our need to do physical labor to provide food for our families which is also a commandment of God.

I'm hoping for the 25th to 10225th spot in the gong banging section of the celestial orchestra. (I want to bang the gong at the really good spots. And, since I get a new perfect body, I'm counting on no longer being tone deaf.) Also looking forward to singing his praise without having everyone around me want to puncture their eardrums at my voice.
