To me the name is irrelevant....it is what they teach that matters...Having said that though, most denomination teach particular doctrines and a church can almost be known by it's affiliation....although I don't agree with everything they teach I would be closely aligned with what a Landmark Missionary Baptist Church teaches...
Yeah my church is closely aligned to the Landmark Missionary Baptist teachings also. 'Independent Missionary Baptist'.. but isn't a denominaton in the sense that there is no 'mother church'.

Seperate, independent, missionary baptist churches with the same teaching.. not one big organisation.

Eg. Catholic.. one universal denom
Presbyterian one universal denom
Methodist one universal denom
Lutheran ditto
Southern Baptist ditto

etc

Independent baptist? No universal org.. seperate independent churches with the same teaching.

Only by hearing. My family attended a Presbyterian church downtown, and I have been to a house church in Raytown, and to IHOP because my in-laws grew up with Mike B. I only visit up there anymore. Last lived there when I was 16.
When you were 16? That's back when Katz Drug Store was still around. It later became Skaggs, then Osco, now CVS. :p

The Katz I remember was south on Raytown Rd, near Bannister, on the West side of the street. (I think.... )

I grew up in the Orthodox Church. It wasn't a good fit for me. Now I'm trying to find a new home church since moving.

The Katz I remember was on Independence Ave in the Northeast area of Kansas City, really close to Sheffield Assembly of God church.

We lived on The Paseo when I was very young, but then Dad bought a house just above the ballpark in Raytown (off 59th), so most of my memories are of that area. I actually lived in St. Petersburg, FL with my mother, but spent Summers with Dad.

I agree, the name is irrelevant, what is taught and practiced is what is important.
I am a Landmark Baptist, BUT there are some that wear the name Baptist, Landmark Baptist, and Missionary Baptist that I will never set foot in again. They wear the name, but do not teach the truth.
I guess that is one problem with all Baptist, you never really know what they believe or teach or practice unless you check each one out. There is no headquarters that sets the agenda. Each congregation is independant to go there on way.
True Landmark Baptist, those who teach what Jesus taught, are hard to find in these last days.

I'm a Methodist but so long the church's doctrine and focus is on God, I'm there! At the end of the day, God does not judge us based on our denomination but who we truly are, internally, not what we show others who we are. God sees the inside, not the external.

Did Willie mean Kingdom Come or Kansas City? :p
Knowing Willie, there's no telling. It could simply be a hidden message. Only revealing things to him. It's unexplainable.

You would not want to live on the Paseo now. That neighborhood has drastically changed since then! Raytown has gone down hill as well. My wife and I once stayed in Clearwater FL and we drove down to St Petersburg and went on a snorkeling tour there. I remember eating at Guppy's restaurant on the way. We have been all over Florida and really like it there!

Ok so my denomination history is a bit unique. My mother was Jehovah's Witness, my father was Lutheran, they eventually divorced, my mother got custody of me so I grew up being raised in her religion :( :( :( yikes.....
At the age of 17/18 I started questioning my mother's religion because I didn't agree with the majority of their teaching, and eventually finally left it, which in turn caused that entire side of my family to "shun" me--pretty much for the last decade or so they have no dealings with me, they don't even call to check on me, it is crazy. Anyways I spent the 10 or so years after I left that denomination (I apologize, but I don't think it should even be catorgorized as a denomination and really should be called a cult) without a denomination at all. I was kind of in drifting mode. I studied all sorts of religions but still never found my niche. So instead I started just reading the bible (KJV) and studying it myself with no church involved. As time went on and events in my life happened, I longed to get closer to God, I decided that the fellowship of other Christians is very important, and strengthening to my faith, so my husband and I started going to a non-denomination--Church of God--Church. We are currently looking at different churches, as we have recently moved and our old church is pretty far away now.
To sum it all up: I would have to say I do not have a denomination as of right now, although I really enjoyed the Church of God church I went to. Their teachings and beliefs fall in line with what I agree with for the most part.
All in all I feel there really is no set denomination for me which I guess is why I have stuck to the non-denomination type.
How is that for a story? :p

There seems to be a lot of us on here from or has ties to Missouri.

I still live in Missouri but am now living on my families 20 acres in the Ozarks that we have owned for over 40 years.
My Dad lived in Kansas City, MO for about 15 years, then he moved to the Lake of the Ozarks about four years ago! Small world :)

Oh, c'mon, Mr. Had. I just say things in a way that I hope will get people to actually thinking, instead of merely reacting with the usual ingrained parroting.

Mailmandan is not Knights of Columbus. And certainly it ain't KFC. Unless they serve chicken, and only if you accidently left out the F.
Just as I figured: It's a Kingdom Come thing. I think.
Did Willie mean Kingdom Come or Kansas City? :p
I was thinking Kansas City...

Ain't much Kingdom Come in KCMO anymore. LOL

And Galahad is a bit behind the curve, it seems. It's okay brother! Hang in there -- we'll get you straightened out!

Lol!

Thanks for commenting everyone -- was a fun conversation to read, this morning.

Now, who's gonna host the BBQ near KC?

I love going down to the Lake of the Ozarks! We have some friends who have a house on the lake in Osage Beach and some other friends who have a house on the lake in Sunrise Beach. :) Growing up, my parents had a trailer on 1 acre by the lake in Camdenton near Bridal Cave. We spent a lot of time down there. That was BEFORE all this "party cove" stuff.
theGeneral and I were married in Camdenton! :) Very small world!
