Thanks 88. :) Actually I was in bed last night and what I wrote kept going through my mind because I realized I was wrong. And then I remembered why I associated the two movies together.

News commentary on You've Got Mail mentioned the New York scene at the Empire State Building and how they borrowed that part of the movie from An Affair To Remember.

O.k. ladies. --- even guys--- here's your chance to tell about "that" movie---- two of my favorites----While You Were Sleeping ( Sandra Bullock)------ You Got Mail (Meg Ryan)---- these women are both silly gooses----- Tom Hanks is cool ---- Bill Pullman is funny...

Most people wont know it but Anne of Green Gables, childhood pals that grow up to fall in love.I lived not far from the real Green Gables so I grew up with the story. It reminds me of home when I watch it,even though I live far away from there now.

I love that part, now I want to watch it again, Lol. The best part is the battle of wits between Westley and Vizzini. The actor who plays Vizzini steals the show, I wish he'd been in the movie longer. Every time I hear someone yell "inconceivable!" I think "That must be a good person, they know The Princess Bride." I prefer old movies. When we were kids, we did not have cable or satellite. My aunt told us that the library would let patrons check out movies for a dollar a piece for two weeks- this is how we got exposed to old movies and musicals. By the end of two weeks, we pretty much knew all the songs.

Thanks for the rep sister! A kindred spirit indeed!

All-time favorite romantic movie: Casablanca. Classic, brilliant, suspenseful, fantastic acting.
In the more modern genre, I like My Best Friend's Wedding -- it's funny and Julia Roberts does NOT get her man.
When it comes to musicals, I love Carousel.

****How about the "Shop Around the Corner" with Jimmy Stewart----the remake of this movie is "You Got Mail"---Tom Hanks & Meg Ryan...
You all are forgetting the Judy Garland/Van Johnson remake "In the Good Ol' Summertime." But don't ask me why it's named that since it all takes place during the Christmas season...

Speaking of Judy Garland, I LOVE her version of A Star is Born. James Mason is BRILLIANT in that. And Garland is, well, Garland. 'Nuff said.

I was disappointed with Age of Adaline. I thought it would be better, for some reason. The costumes were great, though. The storyline, not so much.

I've been watching episodes of The Paradise, a British show about a Victorian girl in a department store. VERY romantic and a beautiful show, all of it is so pretty and feminine.

I've seen it, I'm kind of a fan of Greer Garson. I have the book by James Hilton (I think), but have not yet read it. My mother bought me the book as I liked the film so much. Hilton also wrote Goodbye, Mr. Chips- another Garson film with a very sweet romance.

Sense and Sensibility with Alan Rickman and Kate Winslet. Just so many moments!

One of the most epic lines in the history of fiction, which Alan Rickman delivers perfectly, "To your sister I wish all imaginable happiness; to Willoughby that he may endeavour to deserve her." (misuse of the semicolon not mine)

And then there's a moment that's subtle, but one of my favorites. When Colonel Brandon carries Marianne in, you can see he's exhausted by walking all that way in the rain with a full grown woman in his arms; just a perfect example that sometimes "Prince Charming" isn't the one with a six pack.

OOO! I didn't know anyone still knew about that one! I love that book (the movie is good, too, even if Hays Code changed the ending)!

Oh, and the mention of Rebecca made me think of it (although it's really more of a thriller than a romance): Leave Her to Heaven.

I think of Sense and Sensibility as more of a love story between sisters. My favorite scene in the Thompson film is when Marianne is so ill, and Elinor is at her bedside, crying "do not leave me". At that point, they had both lost their lovers and were looking at being spinsters together. It is very poignant. I am probably reading too much into it, because I know Jane and her sister Cassandra lost their lovers and were spinsters together.

My favorite scene is when Brandon is reading to Marianne and she is put out because he must go to London. He had become dear to her, and THAT VOICE!!

It's a good book, too. Gene Tierney is so very beautiful. The whole film is beautiful though, I am crazy about technicolor. That was not really a romance, though. I guess between Cornell Wilde and Jean Crain.

Did you get the feeling, that Tierney's character would have been not a maniac with Vincent Price's character? Like he would have been strong enough to conquer her and put her in her place. Wilde's character was too namby pamby to handle her. I got the feeling Price would have not let her have her way and tell her who's who and what's what.

Lol, I don't know. It's just what I think whenever I watch it.
