Actually, it's a good place for them to be :)

There are worse chat rooms they could be in.

As Christians, we need to be able to verbalize what we believe and why we believe it. When we are attacked, what an opportunity! Jesus said 'the world will hate you because it first hated me' or something close to that.

I think some people just get bored and like to see how much trouble they can stir up and inflaming the Christians is very entertaining. Don't fall into the trap!

It's a God-given opportunity to practice speaking words of love in the face of contempt, ridicule, and hatred.

What a blessing these people are.

If they get too obnoxious, they are banned.

Try to patient with them....most of us were in the exact same place not that long ago :)

Argumentative people will show up on any forum, it's what they do. It isn't exclusive to any particular forum, every website gets the occasional troll, for whatever reason.

Actually I can say I've probably see fewer trolls here than any other place I've been on. So I think CC has done pretty well with repelling or banning them.

Anyway I'm guessing you don't really care about the answer and just wanted to rant, so I won't bore anyone with possible reasons people troll. :p

I don't usually quote an entire post, but I think this is an excellent asnwer. No less an authority than the Apostle Peter told us, "...in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander." (1 Peter 3:15-16)

I'll tell you why. I'm hear to see what Christians really believe. I'm hear to discuss religion or lack thereof with anyone willing. I'm hear to learn more about what YOU believe and why you believe it. Is there anything wrong with that?
P.S. I'm an atheist. Now, feel free to bash what I believe and try and convert me. I must warn you, however, that I positively won't return the favor.

Learning. Yep. Pretty much the same as Siralexferguson.

I don't understand the atheists who come here simply to make atheist topics like we had a few weeks ago.

See, its comments like that that actually make you look bad. You make it seem like an insult that we may try to convince you of what we believe... yet you came to a CHRISTIAN site. Don't go whining about or trying to make an insult out of people wanting to get you to see and understand and believe as we do ON OUR SITE.

Three things 95% of the atheists say that come on this site.. 'Feel free to bash me'.. and 'I'm not here to convert anyone' and 'I'm just here to learn what you believe. Yet every one of them that says that hops around challenging everything they can, doling out advice to others that goes against what we believe, eventually shows their swelled head and hyped up ego at thinking how much better, and smarter, they are than we are, to the point where people get tired of hearing their constant arguing, insulting tone and egotism. They claim they're here to learn, but they spend more time preaching their views than they do actually listening. Then, they act surprised when someone starts 'bashing' them.

But, i see, Sira... that you're well on your way with the other 95%-ers.

Praying in the love of Jesus!

If you watched a movie about my life...
You would have no doubt Jesus is real...
I grew up with no hope....
until I wondered into a church...
Life changing for me...

Huh. I apologize if that came off as an insult. I sincerely am just here to learn, though if any one wants to debate with me that's fine too. What I won't do is walk into a conversation looking for a debate. I don't think that's okay on a Christian site, as you said. I would be pretty mad if a theist came on an atheistic site and started running around spreading god's word or something. So I won't run around telling of evolution or how religion is evil or something. I do hope I can change your mind about becoming apart of this 95% you speak of. It sounds like a group of ignorance and narcissism. I don't wish to be represented by that.

I'm glad we have "viewers" from all areas of faith, non-faith,etc. I enjoy the exchange of ideas, views and opinions. It's how we learn. My son watches all the Universe shows on TV. He's fascinated by it all. I cringe a little when they talk about the age of everything and my son knows I don't believe the world and the universe is billions of years old, but we still discuss them and for me it's more proof of how amazing our God is! For him it's incredible science, numbers and distances as well as very cool pictures. So welcome everyone. What's on your mind?

Ive often wondered why atheists come here. They claim they are here to learn, but why do you want to learn about something you dont believe in. Another thing,,if you are just here to learn, why do you feel the need to call attention to yourself..HELLO!!!!ATHEIST HERE!!!!!!

Only time will tell i suppose. And i will point out, i have no problem with people of other beliefs coming to the site long as they act right. Also, no, i'm not the type to go preach on others sites. I don't want it done here, so i don't do it myself. But then again i gave up debating my beliefs a while ago. I know what i believe and why. I'll happily explain it, but i don't owe anyone a defense of it. :)

I feel the need to label myself as an atheist to draw attention. That is true. However, it is only so that people can tell me what they believe and how they feel in a manner that does not assume I am a fellow Christian. I think that's a much quicker way of learning something.

Example: Say you want to learn about chemistry. Instead of going into a lab and pretending that you know all about what's going on, wouldn't it be better to tell the people there that you still need to be taught? Then they can teach you starting with the basics, and slowly get more advanced. I feel that this applies to most things in life.

Hopefully I don't offend you by replying, I understand your question was most likely hypothetical.

I still don't get it...ok...I dont believe in Santa Clause. Therefore, i'm not going to waste a second of time reading about santa clause. I dont care to hear people discuss santa clause, I'm not gong to go to a santa clause websight. There is nothing anybody could teach me about santa clause that would benifit me in any way....see what I mean????

Ive often wondered why atheists come here. They claim they are here to learn, but why do you want to learn about something you dont believe in.
A lot of reasons. For one thing, the vast majority of people I am going to meet, because of where I live, are going to be Christian. It is important to understand there beliefs so I don't accidentally offend them. Beyond that, I think that it is unwise to surround yourself with only opinions that agree with what you currently believe. I want to immerse myself in the information that is available, whether I currently accept it as true or not. I am certainly wrong and unsure about a great many things and the only way to correct my mistakes is to look at the information I haven't yet and consider them. Another great reason is because history has ingrained concepts from Christianity into the English language and it is important to understand how it is. By understanding the Christian world view it also helps me be able to understand a lot of pieces of artwork, from architecture to poetry, that have been created over almost 2 millennia. There are plenty of other reasons, but I feel those are very important ones.

In short, understand other beliefs, especially popular and impactful ones, are beneficial even if you don't believe it yourself.

Another thing,,if you are just here to learn, why do you feel the need to call attention to yourself..HELLO!!!!ATHEIST HERE!!!!!!
I've never understood why many atheists tend to do this so openly. I will say something when asked but I usually don't like bringing up the topic myself. I am happy to discuss the subject and have people try to convince me of why my position is misguided, but I feel that bringing it up is often a bother for the people here. As for telling people it is okay to bash me or my beliefs, I do so because I can understand their position and they might feel that it will help me see what they believe to be the truth. I definitely prefer civil discourse over getting insulted though.

lol I would never try to convert an atheist.

I don't know what your thoughts on the afterlife are. But if someone thought another person was going to head to an eternal torment after they died if they held their current beliefs doesn't it seem more important to try to get them to correct their errors. I think it is more comparable to trying to tell a blind man that he is unknowingly walking in the street than telling someone to brush their teeth.

When I first joined the intention was different than the reason for staying, the chatroom is one of the most welcoming. But a few months will make you realize, than unless asked a question first or challenged, we do have to limit or refrain from expressing personal views or being perceived to primarily engage in the 'sensitive topics', which can include accepting challenges.

Either way, it does seem to be the intentions that mods try to judge as well, which even a passive atheist can struggle to hide over time, even with good forum etiquette. I think perhaps only 2 active ones have made it past a year because they are much more controlled at avoiding the subject.

Even Christians that engage too vigorourously as to symbolize their intent, in uncondoned theistic explanations will get reprimanded... Mormonism is the obvious one, I think catholics are tolerated by mods, theistic-evolution seems dodgy ground.
