The game show "I've Got A Secret" featured the Shangri-Las with Robert Goulet.

Shangri-Las - Leader Of The Pack - 1964

Mm--"Is she really going out with him?
"Well, there she is, Let's ask her"
"Betty, is that Jimmy's ring you're wearing?"
"Mm-hm"
"Gee, it must be great riding with him"
"Is he picking you up after school today?"
"Mm-mm"
"By the way, where did you meet him?"

"I met him at the candy store
He turned around and smiled at me
You get the picture
"Yes, we see"
That's when I fell for the leader of the pack

My folks were always putting him down
They said he came from the wrong side of town
They told me he was bad but I knew he was sad
That's why I fell for the leader of the pack

One day my dad said find someone new
I had to tell my Jimmy we're through
He stood there and asked me why, but all I could do was cry
I'm sorry I hurt you, leader of the pack

Do do
He sort of smiled and kissed me good bye
The tears were beginning to show
As he drove away on that rainy night,
I begged him to go slow, whether he heard,
I'll never know Look out! Look out! Look out!Look out!

I felt so helpless, what could I do
Remembering all the things we'd been through?
In school they all stop and stare
I can't hide my tears, but I don't care
I'll never forget him, the leader of the pack

Ooh, the leader of the pack now he's gone
the leader of the pack now he's gone
the leader of the pack now he's gone

The Monkees were created fifty years ago
They were a "must watch" for my sisters and me.
Bobby Sherman plays the young star in this hilariously
cheesy but charming episode from 1967.

that's funny.... "I've Got a Secret"...... my dad and I got to go to a filming of that game show WAY back when. He took me with him on a trip to NYC for a real estate convention, and that was one of the things we did. I can't remember who the "contestant" was, or what their secret was, but I remember enjoying it a lot. I was probably about 7 or 8 years old..

What an amazing movie this was!

Lulu - To Sir With Love (1967)

Those school girl days of telling tales
And biting nails are gone
But in my mind I know
They will still live on and on

But how do you thank someone
Who has taken you from crayons to perfume?
It isn't easy, but I'll try

If you wanted the sky
I would write across the sky in letters
That would soar a thousand feet high
To Sir, with love

The time has come for closing books
And long last looks must end
And as I leave I know
That I am leaving my best friend

A friend who taught me right from wrong
And weak from strong
That's a lot to learn, what
can I give you in return?

If you wanted the moon
I would try to make a star
But I, would rather you let me give my heart
To Sir, with love

This goes back a little further in time, to 1957; a lot of these songs have special sentimental value to me, but this one maybe more so than others, since I remember listening to it with my daddy and singing along at the kitchen table after he bought a cassette tape recorder radio. Not sure exactly what year it was, but the machine looked a lot like this one, released in 1963. We were all surprised by the sound of our recorded voices. Such fond family memories :)

Jimmie Rodgers - Honeycomb

(Honeycomb)
Well it's a darn good life
And it's kinda funny
How the Lord made the bee
And the bee made the honey
And the honeybee lookin' for a home
And they called it honeycomb
And they roamed the world and they gathered all
Of the honeycomb into one sweet ball
And the honeycomb from a million trips
Made my baby's lips

Oh, Honeycomb, won't you be my baby
Well, Honeycomb, be my own
Got a hank o' hair and a piece o' bone
And made a walkin' talkin' Honeycomb
Well, Honeycomb, won't you be my baby
Well, Honeycomb, be my own
What a darn good life
When you got a wife like Honeycomb

(Honeycomb)
And the Lord said now that I made a bee
I'm gonna look all around for a green, green tree
And He made a little tree and I guess you heard
Oh, then well he made a little bird
And they waited all around till the end of Spring
Gettin' every note that the birdie'd sing
And they put 'em all into one sweet tone
For my Honeycomb

Oh, Honeycomb, won't you be my baby
Well, Honeycomb, be my own
Got a hank o' hair and a piece o' bone
And made a walkin' talkin' Honeycomb
Well, Honeycomb, won't you be my baby
Well, Honeycomb, be my own
What a darn good life
When you got a wife like Honeycomb

(Honeycomb)
And the Lord says now that I made a bird
I'm gonna look all round for a little ol' word
That sounds about sweet like "turtledove"
And I guess I'm gonna call it "love"
And He roamed the world lookin' everywhere
Gettin' love from here, love from there
And He put it all in a little ol' part
Of my baby's heart

Oh, Honeycomb, won't you be my baby
Well, Honeycomb, be my own
Got a hank o' hair and a piece o' bone
And made a walkin' talkin' Honeycomb
Well, Honeycomb, won't you be my baby
Well, Honeycomb, be my own
What a darn good life
When you got a wife like Honeycomb

Seeing Richard Harris singing earlier made me think of 4 dark days too long ago when the steady drum beat led a cadence of a horse drawn caisson trailed by the handsome "riderless horse" stallion taking our President to his grave. Our Camelot had become but a dream, merrily merrily. Then a few years later I was a junior in hs and took a girl to see the movie Camelot and as I thought back over it, that February night with a girl named Karen was my camelot and but a dream as well. This final scene still inspires me to this day, tho I don't know why.

Im glad you have happy memories connected to Camelot. Personally I thought it was one of the worst musicals I have ever seen, although I liked the songs. Other film versions of musicals on my hate list include The sound of music, and
Carasel. Two of my favorites are West Side Story, (I fell in love with Natalie Wood), and South Pacific.

I saw this band live five times; one of those times, Stevie Ray Vaughn opened up for them. (I thought that was an odd pairing :)) They are a long time favorite of mine, with Every Good Boy Deserves Favor being one of the first LPs I ever purchased, after shelling out for 45s for a number of years. I never looked back! (My first LP may have been In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida as a thirteen y/o.) This song was first released in 1967, but charted a number of times over the years. The Moody Blues' songs were also among my favorite for teaching myself and sharing with my musical friends as a young woman, during the years when I went everywhere with my guitar in hand. During my karaoke years, I used to sing this song, also :)

The Moody Blues ~ Nights In White Satin

Nights in white satin, never reaching the end,
Letters I've written, never meaning to send.
Beauty I'd always missed with these eyes before.
Just what the truth is, I can't say anymore.

Cause I love you, yes I love you, oh how I love you.

Gazing at people, some hand in hand,
Just what I'm going through they can't understand.
Some try to tell me, thoughts they cannot defend,
Just what you want to be, you will be in the end.

And I love you, yes I love you,
Oh how I love you, oh how I love you.

Nights in white satin, never reaching the end,
Letters I've written, never meaning to send.
Beauty I've always missed, with these eyes before.
Just what the truth is, I can't say anymore.

Cause I love you, yes I love you,
Oh how I love you, oh how I love you.
Cause I love you, yes I love you,
Oh how I love you, oh how I love you.

A friend and I shared a love for the Moody Blues
and their msg of love and good music,
but she dumped me cold for no good reason,
and doesn't share the the love with me anymore.
It has been a battle not to be so deluded over it
that I give it all up myself. But, I still believe in love.

I was really into the Moody Blues. I remember listening to their Albums and trying to work out the meaning of their lyrics, I wasn't Christian then. Years later I saw Justin Hayward in an interview and he admitted that they didnt mean anything lol About twenty five years ago my wife and I saw them in concert in London.

Here is another one from Jay and the Americans.
THIS MAGIC MOMENT

This magic moment
So different and so new
Was like any other
Until I kissed you

And then it happened
It took me by surprise
I knew that you felt it too
By the look in your eyes

Sweeter than wine (sweeter than wine)
Softer than a summer night (softer than a summer night)
Everything I want, I have (everything, everything)
Whenever I hold you tight

This magic moment (this magic moment)
While your lips are close to mine
Will last forever
Forever till the end of time

(this magic moment)
Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
(this magic moment)
Oh-oh-oh-oh

Sweeter than wine (sweeter than wine)
Softer than a summer night (softer than a summer night)
Everything I want I have (everything, everything)
Whenever I hold you tight

This magic moment (this magic moment)
While your lips are close to mine
Will last forever (this magic moment)
Forever till the end of time (magic)

Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh (magic)
Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh (magic)
Oh-oh-oh-oh (moment)

Oh-oh-oh-oh (magic)
Oh-oh-oh-oh (magic)
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh (magic)
Oh-oh-oh-oh (moment)

Magic, oh-oh-oh
Magic, oh-oh-oh
Magic, oh-oh-oh (moment)

One person commented: Wow this song is Love and Love comes from Jesus. Yes I believe with all my heart that every single love song that has ever been written has been written by Jesus Christ which first showed us all how to really Love when He gave His Life for us on the Cross. I Love you Jesus with all of my heart and then some. In the name of Jesus Christ Amen.

Do you remember the first Album you bought? My first was The Times they Are A changing by Bob Dylan. I was about 18 at the time and very left wing in my views. The Album cost a fortune to me. One of my favorite tracks was The Ballad of Hollis Brown.

Some of their lyrics made me wonder if they were Christian, but when I looked it up I discovered they were, or at least Justin Hayward was, a Urantian... they who seek to unite religion, science, and philosophy. I would never say their lyrics meant nothing, as Jesus does comprise part of their beliefs through the work of the apostle Paul, apparently. Here is one of my faves, from Seventh Sojourn, their eighth LP release LOL :)

The Moody Blues - The Land Of Make Believe

We're living in the land of make-believe
And trying not to let it show
Maybe in that land of make-believe
Heartaches can turn into joy.

We're breathing in the smoke of high and low
We're taking up a lot of room
Somewhere in the dark and silent night
Our prayer will be heard, make it soon.

So fly little bird
Up into the clear blue sky
And carry the word
Love's the only reason why, why.

Open up the shutters on your windows
Unlock all the locks upon your doors
Brush away the cobwebs from your day-dreams
No secrets come between us any more

Oh say it's true
Only love will see you through
You know what love can do to you.

We're living in a land of make-believe
And trying not to let it show
Maybe in that land of make-believe
Heartaches can turn into joy.

We're breathing in the smoke of high and low
We're taking up a lot of room
Somewhere in the dark and lonely night
Our prayer will be heard, make it soon.

So fly little bird
Up into the clear blue sky
And carry the word
Love's the only reason why, why.

Open up the shutters on your windows
Unlock all the locks upon your doors
Brush away the cobwebs from your day-dreams
No secrets come between us any more

Oh say it's true
Only love will see you through
You know what love can do to you.

I have been a fan of Buddy Holly since I first heard an Album of his hits age around 15. I collected just about every track he recorded,(over 100). His influence on Rock Music was amazing considering his fame only lasted about two years. It was such a pity he died so young only 22. I wonder how his career would have developed had he lived.

Wasn't into Dylan and besides you needed an interpreter to understand him. :p

A lot of his fans were really mad at him when he switched frim acoustic to electric guitar and saw him as no longer being a purest.

My second oldest brother was really into Bob Dylan :) I bought In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida when I was thirteen, but I cannot remember if I had already purchased the Everly Brothers at that point or not... maybe I had... and I was also listening to the music of David McCallum, he of The Man From Uncle fame. He wrote/conducted symphonic music, and instrumentally interpreted modern hits as well. I was working with my dad and my brothers every weekend from the time I was eight, so had a small income from that, and bought a lot of 45 RPMs before taking the final irrevocable leap to LPs :) Here is one of David McCallum's better known pieces (haha I just realized it has the same name as one of my fave guitarists!):
