99.8 degree temperature. (He's usually 99 degrees, so this is good.)
7.X (I forgot. Got too excited with the 7 to remember the decimal point number. lol) White Blood Cell count.

He's going for a full-body CT Scan to make sure their aren't pockets of stuff not showing up with his readings. (Last time they found a clot in his leg and dealt with it.) Assuming no new news after that, we're just waiting for the surgeon to say when. He can't go without me. No, seriously. He really can't. They need my approval, so I will know before he goes.

Only thing I want to know is how hard this is for the surgeon. Is it like riding a bike for him, or more like riding a unicycle while juggling balls. I'm sure he's confident he can do it, but is that from no-big-deal that comes from "I do this all the time," or "I've really studied up on how to do it and I've done it a couple of times before" confidence.

And my two worlds collided last night. My brother finally got a court date to become Dad's legal guardian. Today! (He just called now to tell me he has to go back in an hour.)

So, since it's about Dad, Dad got served his papers last night. Dad has no idea what's going on. Sure, he's been told, but he will never have an idea what's going on which is the reason my brother needs to be his guardian to send him some place where people will help him because he has no idea.

Dad gets served. My brother tells all the siblings. (Six of us.) My sister tells Dad what's going on with John, Dad freaks and calls me at 10:40 PM. I freak, because who else is calling me that late but John's hospital because something bad happened. I end up crying, so Dad ends up crying and then a mere 1 minute later he asks when John's coming home. We were crying because I'm not too sure John will survive this operation, so coming home isn't something I know yet.

This is why I never wanted Dad to know. He can't remember stuff, but he remembers/sense feelings, so now he has the "I'm worried about Lynn" feeling, which can only be responded to by calling me... at who knows when or why.

Is it bad to hope he remembers something bad is happening today about him? There are no good choices with Dad, but at least I found out where he goes to detox -- Eagleville, one of the best rehab centers in the country. Ha! Little do they know how much a challenge Dad is going to be. We got our stubborn gene honestly. :D

Ah, man! Good news. CT scan found nothing.

Bad news, his fever is back -- 101.8. That fever has to stay down for him to get that operation, so all prayers the fever gives up and leaves, please. (It's been hanging around for most the time he's been in the hospital, so over two weeks, although, before they diagnosed it as pneumonia, and that left last week.)

I've been crocheting him a new Christmas stocking, so all his gifts will fit, (and the old one is a chinchy cheapo store-bought one we've been using for over 30 years, so didn't want to embarrass him. lol) I get Christmas is a busy time. I just finished shopping yesterday. (Bought myself some books and plants, since he hadn't gotten to getting all my presents. I'm still deciding if I should find his secret hiding place or wait for him to come home. lol)

Alleluia!

Bingo!

He hit the trifecta!

-- Temperature 98.8 degrees.
-- Heartbeat is in the 90's. (First time I saw his heartbeat was in the ER. It was 102. After the heartbeats he's had in the last three weeks, I thought 102 was normal. I'm so psyched!)
-- He recognized me.
-- AND he squeezed my hand. First time since this all started we held hands. He's got the best hand ever!
-- He smiled at one of my jokes! (I've been cracking jokes constantly, just so he knows something of his world is still in tact.)

God stretched me more than I can endure and holds me up! I am so happy, I cried. Happy cry beats other cries. (I don't cry. BTW, is anyone buying that anymore? lol)

Hi Lynn,

Maybe you could take one Christmas present to the hospital for
John to unwrap and take a picture of the others all wrapped up.
Sort of tease him with the picture saying if he wants to
know what they are, he will just have to hurry up and get better. :)

Jesus we pray complete healing for John, that the cause of any infection
will go. Lord thank you for sustaining John and Lynn through this time and
we ask for everything to stabilise. So much so that the medical staff
will be amazed at the speed of healing.

Bring abundant joy and peace into these circumstances.

I pray also that all the practicalities will come together concerning Lynn's dad.
and your wisdom will prevail and remove any burden or guilt the family may
feel as they do what is necessary.

Amen.

Wrap Christmas presents? Wow. We've been using bags for years. lol

He waits for December to shop. I was done before all this hit. I needed him to tell me exactly which chair/step ladder he wanted for the kitchen. (Sciatica, plus he likes to cook, so he needed a chair.) So he knows what his big gift is. The rest will fit into the stocking. And we've had a weird tradition for years -- stocking stuffers are all things that will be perfect for a hospital stay -- new toothbrush, razor blades, sugar-free candy, socks, and lip balm. Usually coffee, but that can wait until rehab. That's why I'm making an extra large stocking. Bags of coffee eventually. (He is officially an ex-smoker -- his choice. They would have given him a patch, but we both had tried and failed, so that was a no brainer. On the other hand, I don't know what I'll do with all those lighters. I'm cutting back after his surgery, cutting more after ICU, and quitting when he goes for rehab. Motivated now. He has a bad heart, so he shouldn't be stuck with second-hand smoke.) I will have to pick him up some toothpaste, bring his razor, and deodorant. He'll need pajamas. (Not a pajama kind of guy, but it beats hospital gowns.) But also not until rehab.

Good thing. His birthday is in January, so I'm hoping he is in rehab by then, and then I know what to get him for his birthday.

Lol I know just what you mean, my Aunt is still in hospital so pressies are taking
the form of slippers, dressing gown, small clock, coffee (she doesn't like the
hospital coffee) etc.

At least I wont be putting on any weight over Christmas, there are no buses running
on Christmas Day so it's a 2.5 mile walk each way on the 25th December, kind of
like Santa but without the reindeer! I might wear my red jumper and see if I can
find a red hat. :)

No one likes hosptial coffee. I think that's how they keep the coffee bill down. lol

It's Christmas! I would think hitchhiking is something safe enough on Christmas day. (Truck drivers are usually the most helpful, but you'll only get local runs that day, and I'm not sure those drivers have a passenger seat.)

I'm also not sure you know what a truck is. Are big rigs lorries over there too? (One of our news people's names is Lisa Thomas Lory. She went to England once and saw a sign with her name on it. Except, it was Lease a Thomas Lory. Only reason I know you use a different word for that. lol)

And can you translate "jumper" for me? I'm picturing the uniform I wore in Catholic school as a girl, or corrigan overalls for toddlers, or this. None would keep you warm, (unless you wear pants... errr trousers under the Catholic school girl's uniform.)

Monday, December 21, one month to the date of his heart attack, and only if his temperature remains under 100 and nothing else happens, John will have his operation. Serious relief now that they set a date, but I think I'll be a bundle of nerves on Monday.

Speaking of bundle of nerves, please see my prayer for my Dad. He just called. I think the comfort he was looking for was "this isn't happening." He got why it needs to happen and why brother did the right thing. (First time I ever left Dad speechless. Seriously disturbing.)

I also ended up promising if he wasn't feeling better about this in half a year, we'll revisit the "I'd rather die" statement. I forgot. He chose me to be the one to decide to pull the plug. He chose me, because he knows I'm a believer. Little does he know, I've changed my no-line rule on that one. I will, if the only thing keeping him alive is machinery and he'll never get off it. So, seriously. My prayer is both hubby and Dad are better in half a year. The stakes on Dad just rose ten fold.

In the Uk, a lorry is a truck usually over 3.5 tonne gross plated weight and
generally up to 44 tonne. There are also heavier Lorrys but they would be
classified as abnormal loads and would probably carry road repair machinery,
cranes, maybe mobile homes etc.

Jumpers come in different shapes, sizes and colours.
Usually made of wool but can be made of anything
these days.

Ah, then correction. Lory drivers are usually the most helpful and kind, but they also get off for Christmas.

And, ohhh, a sweater! I wish I didn't have to wear bibfronts all the time. I'd so own that penguin on Christmas. (I have never understood "ugly Christmas sweaters." The louder and funnier the better.)

Our Santas/Father Christmases usually sport a red cap with pompom. We are Philadelphia Eagles fans though and their color is Kelly Green. (Or, it was. They keep changing the green every few years.) Because of that, I crocheted two very large, very long green Santa caps long ago. Whenever John and I spent the day enjoying Christmas displays in Center City (and it was cold enough to wear a cap), we'd wear those. I'm wearing mine to the hospital on Christmas Day. hohoho

Jesus, I thank you that you see all, you know our thoughts, our worries,
you know our frame Jesus and understand the difficulties of worries and of
health problems.

I pray that any and all problems getting in the way of John's recovery will
just come to nothing, that both John and Lynn will look back on this time and
will be able to testify to the amazing power of Jesus on the inside of us.

We know you haven't brought John so far on this journey just to allow
him to fall and we know it isn't his time yet. You set our days at 120,
John has more to do Lord and we believe you have plans both for John
and Lynn. Bring strength to his body Lord, defeat the cause of these
infections, let John know you are with him and watching over him.
Let the staff be amazed at the speed of recovery. Amen
