the world commonly talks about having a state of 'always learning' as a virtue -
to no matter how convicted you are of some truth, to be willing to hear and entertain another point of view.
or, to always be open to admitting that you might be wrong.
this is even sometimes pointed to as not just 'common sense' but being a 'Christian' frame of mind to live in -- as though it is to 'not judge' whether someone is wrong about something or not; to be 'kind' and always consider another persons take on something.
but is this scriptural?
what does that idea ((i hope i've explained well enough)) have to do with this passage, if anything:
They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.
(2 Timothy 3:6-7)
?
if you are always ready to consider an opposing view, a different version of what you think is true, then do you ever truly have 'knowledge' ?
do you know the "truth" if you can't be sure of it?
is it a Christian perspective to be open to different ideas, and never being 'dogmatic' about what is so and what is not so --
or is this in reality antichrist ?
please support either view with scripture, if you can .. ?
sorry if this is vague; i'm having trouble finding the right words to express it. maybe someone can help me with that, if you know what i'm trying to get at here.
thanks
2Ti 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2Ti 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
2Ti 3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
2Ti 3:4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
2Ti 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
2Ti 3:6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
2Ti 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
These people that are ever learning,and never able to come to the truth,are people claiming God,but they deny the Spirit leading them,but want their flesh to be in control,and are lovers of pleasures,more than lovers of God,and are lumped together with the world,that is getting worse,and worse,in attitude,where they are highly selfish,and arrogant,disobedient to parents,will not keep their promises,and do not care that much for other people,and such.
The people that are hypocrites,that love the world more than God,has been lumped in together with the world,that is getting worse in fleshy attitude,which God is pointing out that the world,as well as many claiming God,having a form of godliness,but deny the power thereof,are getting worse in fleshy attitude,and the hypocrites belong to the world,and not God.
Luk_9:62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
Mat 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Mat 25:1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
Mat 25:2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
Mat 25:3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:
Mat 25:4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
Mat 25:5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.
Mat 25:6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.
Mat 25:7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.
Mat 25:8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.
Mat 25:9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
Mat 25:10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
Mat 25:11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
Mat 25:12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
Mat 25:13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
Mat 24:42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
Mat 24:43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
Mat 24:44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
Mat 24:45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
Mat 24:46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
Mat 24:47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
Mat 24:48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;
Mat 24:49 And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;
Mat 24:50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,
Mat 24:51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Gal 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Gal 5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
Gal 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
Rom_8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
Not everyone that claims Christ,has the Spirit,but a lot have a form of godliness,but deny the Spirit leading them,in which they will do fleshy things as a result,being lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God,and they are ever learning,and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth,because of their being fleshy,and not spiritual,and are joined together with the disobedient of the world,that is getting worse,and worse,in attitude,being fleshy,and exalting themselves more as time goes on.
