Many doctrines and denominations teach today that sin is OK in the life of the believer. But what does the Bible say about sin? As believers are we saved 'in sin' as many modern doctrines claim or are we truly saved 'from sin'?
Any doctrine that makes allowances for sin is a doctrine of compromise. In 2 Thessalonians 2 Paul speaks of the great apostasy where Paul predicts that many believers will be lead astray by doctrines that allow sin. Paul makes reference to this apostasy again in 2 Timothy 3: 1 - 5:
"But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people"
If you notice, all of the attributes listed are the complete of opposite of the evidences (fruits) of the indwelling Holy Spirit, which is the manifestation of God's divine grace and nature in our lives. If we learn to rely on the indwelling Christ instead of the flesh, then intentional - premeditated sin should be nonexistant in our lives. We know this because of the many scriptures gives which tell us that believers shouldn't sin. Here are a few examples:
