The first thing that popped into my mind when I thought about the topic of effective prayer was this scripture.
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. (James 5:16)
There it is, in black and white; the prayer of a righteous person is effective. How do we become a righteous person whose prayer will be effective and what is the healing James is referring to?
Is it..
1. observing divine laws?
2. being innocent, faultless, guiltless?
3. Not judging others according to our own viewpoint?
4. passing just judgement on others?
5. being equitable in character?
6. being humble enough to be truthful about ourselves openly?
7. not segregating God's Word into doctrinal segments?
8. being of a circumcised heart according to Deuteronomy?
9. not being self-interested leading to self-centeredness?
10. focusing on what God has given us without being jealous of others?
Be discriminate if you feel it necessary, without arguing or finding fault with other's comments. What are your thoughts, and how far should we go in the sight of God?
