BOTH were talking about faith which preceded works.
Both were talking about works of Christ's faith . They cannot be separate or the lack of Christ's faith ends up with dead works offered towards him . The kind spoken of in Hebrews 6:1
It boils down to what kind of faith do we attribute to God who does work in us? Most Christians I have met shrink from acknowledging God works by faith to begin with so they start to divide that which cannot be divided.
Jam 2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
Whose faith worked with whose works?
If he was justified by works it becomes by whose work of faith? Therefore that of Christ as a faith or belief that did work with his works, to make
his faith as to what Christ believed complete or perfect.
Jam 2:22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
Nothing above is attributed to either Rehab or Abraham .if it was they would have something to boast about. But they are not in the place of God (Blasphemy)
That kind of work that works in us to both will and do His good pleasure cannot be divided between one and the same things a “work of faith”. it’s all one work. Faith is a living work
Phi 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
This is the same work of faith that worked in both rehab and Abraham (not of there own self)
If we would have the mutual work of Christ’s faith in respect to Abraham or Rehab we have already blasphemed the holy name by which we are called and moved to perform it.
Jam 2:1 My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.....( Abraham or Rehab)
The conclusion...
Jam 2:7 Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?
In that way by a work of His faith he performs the things appointed to us as he did with both Rehab and Abraham . Apart from His work of faith that works in us we cannot do anything that pertains to the promise of our new incorruptible bodies..
But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? and what his soul desireth, even that he doeth. For he performeth "the thing that is appointed for me": and many such things are with him.Job 23:14
It is Christ who made the hearts of both Rehab and Abraham soft
Job 23:16 For God maketh my heart soft, and the Almighty troubleth me
Who is it that makes any sinners heart soft?
