Dude stated one thing that was true. Maybe it was the only thing he said that was true. New Orleans is now more than 50% black by population. There was 1 million people in New Orleans before Katrina. After Katrina, the population dropped to 500,000. Crime was bad before and it has been worse since. New Orleans ranks 9th worst among U.S. cities for murder rate. New Orleans schools K-12 students rank among the poorest educated in the country. Dude tried to say the "people" of New Orleans voted to remove these statues. No, they did not. During the heated debates during the city council meetings, several people, including a city council member, asked that the people of New Orleans be allowed to vote on the measure. No other council member seconded her motion. Six people decided this on behalf of 500,000 residents. At least one of those who voted in favor, has already suggested they remove street signs and rename schools that may also be offensive to blacks. Soon, they will want to write new text books and make sure they have been sanitized, removing all offensive historic figures. Actually, many schools have already done that.
New Orleans is well on it's way to becoming Detroit. 50 years ago, Detroit was the wealthiest city in the country. It was thriving. They brought cheap labor in from the south, primarily blacks. It was a city you could go to and get a good paying job and support your family. For the next 50 years, Democrats ran the city. Only Democrats were elected Mayor and only Democrats were elected to the city council. They became corrupted and spent lavishly on themselves and their friends. Crime increased and they ignored it. Schools began seeing higher drop-out rates and lower test scores, and they ignored it. Over those next 50 years, one-half of the population fled the city. Almost all of them were white. They wanted better schools for their kids and wanted to escape the crime. A series of mayors and city council members and even police chiefs were charged with crimes and convicted. The city never balanced it budgets. Police and fire responses got to a point where there were 30 minute delays for emergency service. Home were abandoned and turned into crack houses. Drugs and gangs took over entire neighborhoods. The city went into bankruptcy. It is now considered the worst city in the country to live in.
The New Orleans city council has divided the city on racial lines. They are nothing more than a chapter of black lives matter, ignoring the black on black crime in the city and focusing their efforts on four statues they feel are disrespectful, despite admitting one of the statues is of a man who asked for slaves to be given more rights. New Orleans will be a worse place because of this action. tens of thousands of whites will flee the city in the coming years. Crime will increase even more.
