2 Corinthians 6:17
King James Version (KJV)
[SUP]17 [/SUP]Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.
I have a question about this verse. I talk to people and they seem to think that if a person; for example is gay; that you talk to them, and try to explain to them that they are wrong and why. After you do this you tell them that you cant associate with them because of there ways. I feel in my heart that this cant be so. The bible also tells use to love one and other as we love ourselves and as Jesus loves us. If this is so how can you not want to keep in contact with these people? Yes they are wrong in there way of thinking but hiding in your house and church house isn't shinning your light to the people of the world because if you don't want to associate with people that are sinful you might a well not leave your door step. I have no problem walking in a park with a sinner gay or other wise incorrect, or going to there house as long as they dot practice there ways around me. Ive been told that im wrong for thinking this and i wanted to get more opinions about this and proof as to why i might be wrong. Please help this really bothers me.
Speaking of two different subjects here. Paul does not say we must avoid all sinners, he says to avoid those who are unrepentant in the church...
1Co 5:9 I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:
1Co 5:10 Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.
1Co 5:11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.
1Co 5:12 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?
1Co 5:13 But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.
Yet, one does not make close friends with those of the world...
2Co 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
Doesn't say to completely avoid all, says to avoid those in the church who are unrepentant. In fact, those in the church who are unrepentant are to be cast out...
1Co 5:1 It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.
1Co 5:2 And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.
1Co 5:3 For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed,
1Co 5:4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,
1Co 5:5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
