John 1:17 "For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ."
Luke 16:16 "The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it."
Matthew 4:23 "And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people."
the law of moses....Levitucus 20:10 "And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death. "
the gospe...l John 8:They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. 5Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?<<< correct according to the law of moses ( though the man should have been there as well)
john 8:7-11 "So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. 8And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. 9And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. 10When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? 11She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more."
the Law of moses...deuteronomy 24:1 "When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house."
the gospel.....matthew 5:32 "But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery."
the law of moses deuteronomy 19:21 "And thine eye shall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot."
the gospel ....matthew 5:38-39 "Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: 39But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also."
just a very small example, the law of moses is all the same way when compared to the gospel. Jesus did not teach the Law of moses, But the gospel of the Kingdom of God. its easy to get wrapped up in trying to explain how Jesus was re teaching the Law or try to link the Law of moses, to the gospel, but when you study what Moses wrote in the book, and what Jesus spoke in the Gospel they are 2 different things.
so when you say " we have died to the Law of moses" its not meant to see it as Jesus words arent the gospel, or they dont apply because they are the Law we died to. Jesus was teaching a new thing that God had been foretelling all along. he fulfilled the Old, and gave the new. He fulfilled the law in ways Like the law says " to transfer the sins of the people onto a scapegoat, then release it into the desert" Jesus is the scapegoat on whoich was transfered our sins. the Law says take the spotless atoning animal sacrifice, shed its blood and the blood will be an atonement for the people", Jesus is the atoning sacrifice for the people.
The Law teaches the duties of the High priest of atonement, Jesus is the High priest. Jesus fulfilled the directives in the Law of moses, the law is for us now to understand that Jesus is all of the things like that, the scapegoat, the atoning sacrifice, the high priest, the mediator of the eternal covenant, where as moses was the mediator through angels in the first. to know the gospel and believe the gospel, and follow the gospel is christianity, to follow the Law of moses, is judaism. they arent the same thing, one led isreal to Christ, through thier rejection of Gods covenant with them, the law of moses is still very useful to us, to teach us about Jesus and what He did to fulfill it.
i would challenge any who love bible study to study the directives of Jesus, and compare them to the directives of Moses, and find that Moses Gave the Law, Jesus the gospel and they are rather contrary. in fact if we adhere to the mosaic Law, its impossible to keep the Gospel because it is so opposite. we could divide certain things from the mosaic Law and make them fit, but thats not what were taught to do, we are taught to die to the Law, and Live the gospel. the ten commandments are referenced in the Law, and the gospel, they are the Law of God and a perfect moral compass. they are not outdone, or made of less value or authority, but the book of the mosaic Law, we have been released from.
and thank God we have because in the Law, repentance wasnt an option for many sinners, but immediate death sentance was commanded by Moses for sins worthy of death such as cursing your parent, commiting adultery, listening to a false prophet, and so many , MANY more things. once you sinned under the Law, you were done, yet the gospel is sent to call sinners who have sinned to repentance. to understand what " the Law" is, a distinction has to be made between the Law of God, the law of moses, the Law of Christ, the law of sin within our members, the perfect law that gives freedom...on and on.
the book of the Law of moses is what we are not under, because a sinner was killed, without mercy, Jesus came to call those who would be killed under the Law, to repentance through His gospel, and then DIED to become the sacrifice that paid the price for those He is calling to repentance.
I could say " the truth is that the 4 gospels are The new covenant" but not many will accept that so to me its hard to make and support a point without long post that clearly show the difference between the law of moses, and the gospel. its importance is so that a false teaching doesnt convince us that the 4 gospels arent for us, or just the cross applies.... through elaborate circular explainations. because if we do not accept the Teachings of Jesus, there is no life in the gospel, and if we believe we need to adhere to the mosaic Law, there is condemnation after a person sins once. they truly are 2 different things as different as Life and death.
I hope you are able to consider the difference and do your own study between the mosaic Law found in the four books of the mosaic Law exodus, levitucus, dueteronomy and numbers mediated by Moses. and the Four gospels matthew , mark, luke and John, Mediated By Jesus Christ and realize they are not the same, in order to not fall for someone explaining why Jesus words arent for you. God bless you if you made it this far through this post lol some things cant be said in a sentance, sorry for the length, but its what it is.
