This is a common misconception which it taught in many denominations. And many accept it because they do not fully research it. This erroneous teaching uses 1 Corinthians 13:8-10 as its basis, “8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.” The claim is that the Canon of Scripture, that is the Bible, is the “perfect” referred to in this passage.
“Perfect”, is the Greek word teleios (teleios – Stong’s# 5046), which,in this instance, according to Thayer’s Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament, means “ the perfect state of all things, to be ushered in by the return of Christ from Heaven”. Has that happened and I missed it??
Also, I would also like to mention, if one believe tounges have ceased, they will also have to believe that knowledge and prophecy have also been done away with. However, these same people claim to have knowledge, but, how can they believe that?? Makes me wonder if they are truly studying, or just accepting what others are saying as truth.
