Acknowledging Christ in You
Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God; Colossians 1:25
Our lord Jesus Christ carried away from this world thoughts unuttered. In the upper room discourse in John 16:12, He told His disciples there were many things He had to say to them, but they could not cannot bear them then. These were the matters of His crucifixion, death, burial, quickening, raising and seating. The disciples saw the death of Christ as His own death. When He was later resurrected, after several appearances, they understood Him to be bodily resurrected from the death but they saw the resurrection as His own resurrection.
Un-announced, un-anticipated, Jesus appears to a man called Saul of Tarsus. He apprehends him for His eternal purposes and reveals to him things which were not clearly understood. God appointed Paul as the apostle to administrate an understanding to the Church; to fulfil the word of God.
The Understanding given to Paul
“Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Colossians 1:26 - 27
The term "mystery" is the Greek word "musterion" which refers to that which God has deliberately kept to be revealed at a time of His own choosing. God had a plan from the foundation of the world that He would complete the creature called man by placing His Son in them. He kept this concealed within the Godhead but now, He said, is the time that it should be made known and made manifest to the saints. This knowledge shows us what is the content of the Christian experience.
The riches of God's glory is found in this mystery which is now revealed. God planned before the world began to include you into His shared Life by placing His Son, Christ, in you and therein are the riches of His glory. The term 'glory' is from the Greek word 'doxa' which means an accurate view and opinion. It takes Christ to indwell and live in you for the true measure of God's opinion about you to be known, which is: Christ in you, the hope of Glory.
When we speak of Christ in you, we are saying that the Son of God, Jesus Christ, actually lives within you, in an inseparable union. The Lord joins you to Himself making you one Spirit with Him. You are saved in the Son. Christ shares His relationship with His Father, His authority and His righteousness with you. God's top secret is now declassified; His Son has come to live inside of you sharing in common what was His, by exclusive right. Every human being has a sense of being incomplete. Attempting to complete yourself by religious works will only lead to disappointment because God completes you by placing His Son, Christ, in you.
That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus. Philemon 1:6
The term “communication” means the receiving of what God has given. It emphasizes something shared in common. Christ Jesus is in you with every good thing. It is Him that you are to recognize. Effectual faith is the faith which acknowledges every good thing, every advantageous thing, every benefit which is in you in Christ Jesus. You will always face circumstances and situations but that is not what you are to acknowledge. You are to acknowledge every good thing which is in you because it is in Christ.
