Now that is amazing, for the scripture says:
"Then I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel."
God is not only specifying the exact number, but their identity! And you guys come along and say "144,000, a number which no man can count," which you just counted. As further proof that the number is literal, the following group is specified as being a number which no man can count, demonstrating that God is distinction between the two.
1st Group:
How many are sealed = 144,000
Who are they = 12,000 each from the twelve tribes Israel
2nd Group:
How many = A number too large to count
Who are they = From every nation, tribe, people and language (Gentiles)
The proper exegeses is to interpret these verses in the literal sense, as there is nothing in the context to lead the reader to apply a symbolic meaning for these numbers. As further proof that the 144,000 is literal, scripture is consistent in referring to the same number again in Rev.14.
Why in the world would you read the description of their numbers and then ignore them? Does God have to end all of His literal scriptures with "No, I really mean that!"
There are those who do the same thing with Israel, claiming that they represent spiritual Israel, meaning the church. why don't you guys start believing what you are reading until a symbolic interpretation is obvious? All you are doing is distorting scripture.
