What would be better? To be overly cautious in wanting to protect one's own soul and perfect themselves in Christ? Or to be cavalier in regards to their faith?
Believing the words of Jesus and the fact that he said it is faith that saves and makes whole.....it is faith that justifies....it is faith that seals....it is faith that sanctifies (positionally).....

Where's 1 John 1:8?
When you read 1 John 1:8, you also have to read 1 John 2:1 where John says, "sin not." You also have to read 1 John 2:4 that says,

"He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him."

Now, let me ask you a question. If you are breaking even of his commands, is the truth in you (according to the verse above)?

In John's 1st epistle, he was writing to the brethren in regards to those who were trying to deceive them (See 1 John 2:26). We also learn that 1 John 1:6 says the same thing that 1 John 2:4 does. It says he that says he has fellowship with him and walks in darkness lies and does not the truth. So then, we realize 1 John 1:8 is a warning to the brethren against those false believers who claim they have no sin. Sort of like the OSAS proponent today says a similar thing. Yes, they will admit they sin physically, but John is not referring to the natural world in his epistle.

In fact, the OSAS proponent today says their sin on a spiritual level does not exist for them because it has been forgiven (Past, present, and future). The OSAS proponent also says 1 John 1:9 does not apply to forgiveness of sin in relation to salvation, either. Yet, the true believer admits their sin and knows they are forgiven of sin if they confess it. The true believer does not ignore sin if it arises in their life (Because they confess it so as to be forgiven).

You don't like that one do you?
No, I love 1 John 1:8. It actually exposes the false gnostic beliefs of today like OSAS.

Actually it exposes those who claim to be sinless and proves they are deceived and don't have the truth dwelling in them.....

Yeah, I have explained 1 John 1:8 on this site to folks many times. They just don't want to see it in light of it's context. But I will pray for them so that they may see what it says one day.

I knew something was missing in that post, just couldn't figure it out
I didn't leave it out. It was in reference to a specific point I was addressing. 1 John 1:8 is dealing with the gnostic believer who thought there was no such thing as sin. I grew up knowing someone who was a Christian Scientist. They believed sin did not exist. This is similar to the OSAS proponent and their belief today. They do not believe sin exists for them because they are forgiven of all sins past, present, and future. Sin does not exist for them on a spiritual level. Their belief is very similar to the gnostic belief. The way the OSAS proponent gets out of this is by saying they sin on a physical level but yet on a spiritual level they have no sin (Because Christ paid it all). But this denies the next verse. 1 John 1:9 follows 1 John 1:8. One is supposed to confess their sin in order to be forgiven of their sin. The OSAS proponent does not believe 1 John 1:9 is in relation to salvation but they think it has to do with merely a break in fellowship (While they are still saved). But the Scriptures say, he that has the Son has life and he that does not have the Son does not have life (1 John 5:12). For you have to realize John was writing to the brethren and warning them about false deceivers (1 John 2:26). 1 John 2:4 and 1 John 1:6 is the context of 1 John 1:8.

Of course you would say that...we cant having you admitting your wrong or anything....1st John 1:8 is sufficient to prove you wrong.....
1 John 1:8 only works in your view if that was the only verse in the entire epistle. One has to read that verse in context to other verses. 1 John 2:4 refutes the idea that one can disobey God's Commandments. For he that says he knows him and does not obey his commandments is a liar and the truth is not in him (1 John 2:4). So how can you always sin as a part of 1 John 1:8 and yet also obey his commandments as a part of 1 John 2:4? Do you not know that sin is transgression of the law? (1 John 3:4).

I hate to break this to you dude...but the guy I go to for biblical guidance has been a Christian for 40 plus years....has the the entire new testament committed to memory and a good portion of the old testament. He's had, literally..over 100,000 people sit across from him and ask for help in understanding and applying scripture to their lives. He has led countless people to Christ and just got back from Italy where he walked the same path that the apostle paul did.... and I have his entire syllabus in front of me from that trip.

You've been a Christian for what...4 years....you're still a baby my friend, and you have no idea what you are doing. You and your sycophant friend are dangerous knuckleheads...at the bare minimum.

Isaiah 29:21 That make a man an offender for a word, and lay a snare for him that reproveth in the gate, and turn aside the just for a thing of nought.

Thank you!

It destroys the entire foundation on which they yell from.

No need to present more, or complicate the argument.
It really is that simple, Jason.

There are many people who follow a false Christ. Also, it is possible that someone can get saved not knowing their Pastor's false teachings, too. In time, if they discover them, they will have a choice to make.

So you are just going to ignore the context of 1 John 2:4 in order to make 1 John 1:8 fit some kind of odd view that does not flow right in the Bible?

In other words, explain 1 John 2:4 in relation to 1 John 1:8 if you can.

And I'm afraid I see one every time your profile pops up. Hopefully...you...in time....discover the error of your ways. I'm guessing it will be the hard way.
