One of my Dead Guys (commentators I read while studying), said something today about these verses that got me thinking.
Num. 10:
35 And whenever the ark set out, Moses said, “Arise, O Lord, and let your enemies be scattered, and let those who hate you flee before you.”36 And when it rested, he said, “Return, O Lord, to the ten thousand thousands of Israel.”

It wasn't the ark leading the Israelites in the wilderness. (It was in the middle of the huge column of the Israelites.) It was that fire-cloud of God. That column of cloud in the day and fire at night. (They also suggested the cloud never changed, it was just the light or lack of light that made the aspect of the cloud/God seem like a cloud in the day and fire at night. I just thought that was cool.)

And that fire-cloud covered the people as they walked. And it covered them when they camped. It was their mantle protecting them. It was God protecting them. He's their safety net.

Men are supposed to be the mantle for women. Not all men to all women but chosen men for certain women. A father. If no father, an older brother or uncle. If not them, a pastor. And, if married the husband.

I'm capable of doing my own walking -- physically and metaphorically, although the physically is waning. lol I'm capable of following God, although I really need that cloud to guide me or I could end up on the opposite side of the world from The Promise Land. But the enemy does come, and no, it's not always Satan. I'm not even sure it's usually Satan. Seems like people to me most the time. The ones who hurt the most are usually family -- blood and spiritual. I am so very glad for my mantles over the years -- my husband most of all. He protects me. I trust him. I trust him because he's always there for me when I need him protecting me. And he trusts me to protect him. (Lay off my hubby unless you want a snout full of me.
 lol :p) He's able to do that even now, even disabled, because he's got his mantle -- that same cloud in the wilderness but without that form to prove it's God.

I go to the Family Forum on here. Most of the posts on there are families falling apart. Many times it has already gone to cheating.

Some younger men come on this forum to tell us women how to act in church. I find them amusing since I know my mantles. (Two of them for me -- God and hubby. Most women have two or more mantles. Many of them have a mantle of a pastor or dad too.)

It seems to me that the only way a marriage ends up with cheating is if the mantle was discarded. And, yes, sometimes the mantle was never put on to be discarded, but that's supposed to be the purpose of being evenly yoked -- two believers in the marriage.

So, guys? Got to ask? What shape is your mantle in today? Have you even looked at it lately to know? Do you make sure it's used properly all the time? The mantle around the ark was lovely draperies with cherubim on them. Over those were laid thick animal skins to protect them. What's your mantle look like and is it used well to protect the women you're supposed to be protecting? We count on God. We really do. But I love the extra mantle of my hubby's protection too. I trust him because he has proven trustworthy.

The husband's 'mantle story' would only be believable if the wife got to respond confirming his alibi.
29 years still holding by God's grace.

at,

this is OUR point of view...

we were blessed to have a simultaneous Conversion' - from the beginning, a little over 33yrs. ago -
our hearts desire has been to bow-down and serve The Lord in unity, and we consider it a
great, great, blessing.

as Christ is my Protector, I am my wife's protector - yet, my wife protects me...this is just built
into her...so, I have to acknowledge that on more than one occasion, her 'discernment' was WAY AHEAD
of my judgment...in the WORLD, it is called, WOMAN'S INTUITION!!!
in the Body of Christ, this is called, DISCERNMENT...

so, I thank The Lord Jesus Christ, that we are not always in agreement, but ALWAYS in UNITY.

((the masculine MUST ALWAYS be aware of how God created the Feminine), as many of us have discovered,
(male and female, do NOT THINK A-LIKE)).
as it is written,
Submit yourselves, one to another.
and as it is NOT written,
pay attention to God's creation.;)

Lynn,
you have picked an INTERESTING SCRIPTURE!
the TORAH, if you look at a scroll, you will see that it is meticulous in the size of the letters and they
are always a VERY NEAT and an ORDERLY document....BUT, there are a few scriptures in which
either the letters are enlarged or made very small or a variant of spelling in the Hebrew, or,
the letters are doubled...creating a MIS-SPELLING....
but,
Numbers 10:35., a LETTER IS TURNED UP-SIDE-DOWN!!! the Hebrew letter in Strongs, 5265,
to set FORWARD...there is NO Formula in 'how to discern exactly what God is telling us, but,
there is no DOUBT that He is trying to get an IMPORTANT POINT across....

the letter, in particular is NUN, our "N" and when ever we see an oddity in the scriptures like this,
we go to the acrostics.

PS.119.105 to 112, is telling us about the Letter, NUN, they CONNECT the scripture in Numbers
with ALL of the acrostics....
Your Word is a Lamp unto my feet and a Light to my path...

the SIMPLE MESSAGE is, 'let us not get 'turned-up-side-down' in our FAITH when the
Throne of God moves forward in our lives.....but let us-set-forward-with-the-Lord,
for all His Judgments are Righteousness'.......

Good point. lol

But it really does seem like either the wife tossed off the mantle or the guy got so preoccupied with something else, he forgot to notice where the mantle was. Kind of like walking down the street as a couple under an umbrella. Good to have the umbrella, but not really if the umbrella holder isn't paying attention because something shiny comes along to look at.

Ack! You make me think! I'm working in ESV most the time, so which word is "forward" in those verses? (I'm nosy. Got to see, but don't know what I'm looking at to see it. lol)

I did like that my Dead Guys taught me "return" means "restore." I see both of them being the same word, but only once I caught on to that part. Until then, I thought God was ahead of them, but backed up to "return." "Restore" has a sense of recombobulating that which could have been discombobulated for the other part of the day.

And, yes, I do get the "umbrella holding" is a joint effort. When the umbrella wanders off, it's my job to tell hubby, "Hey, I'm getting wet." Likewise, if I walk out from under the umbrella to look at my own shiny thing, it's his job to pull me back in even if I don't notice I'm getting wet. Part of marriage is encouraging one another to stick with THE Mantle.
