GRACE:

Acts 10:43-44 (NASB)
[SUP]43 [/SUP]"Of Him all the prophets bear witness that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins."

[SUP]44 [/SUP]While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were listening to the message
what I see there, is the Holy Spirit operating and making real the word Peter spoke BECAUSE Peter spoke the truth

and that is how it always works...between 2 people...10 people or a million people...as Jesus said, (also to Peter), flesh and blood has not revealed this to you

nor to anyone who believes and is alive according to the Word and according to the promise of the Holy Spirit

otherwise, we are all dead and our works stink...not trying to be dramatic...that is what scripture states

Repentance comes with the hearing of Christ and what He has already done. We should be living in a constant mode of repenting ( changing our minds about what we believe ) whenever we hear a new truth about the beauty of our Lord.

Romans 10:17 (NASB)
[SUP]17 [/SUP] So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.

To turn from sin and to change your mind mean the same thing. Because sin starts in your mind, it's a decision. "He who KNOWS the good he ought to do, and CHOOSES not to do it, sins." In Romans 8 it talks about this. He who has his mind on the flesh does what the flesh desires, he who has his mind on the spirit does what the spirit desires. We are all tempted by sensual desires, so we have to change our mind from that and focus our mind on what the Spirit desires, so that we can turn away from sin.
Yeah, repentance simply means acknowledging that we are not right. Then we turn to GOD and believe.

You're joking, right? Three people before me turned it into works/grace, I asked for clarification, and you call me out? Too funny.

if I have misrepresented you, then I apologize

I may have misunderstood or read your post too quickly...for that matter, sometimes two people can read the same thing and come up with a different understanding

so, I'm sorry

Repentance came before all of that when John and Jesus simply proclaimed the coming kingdom of GOD. Their first words were, repent. And people came and confessed their sins.

I don't understand. The anti-works crowd sees to really have a problem with this said in the OP.

“I preached that they should repent and turn to God and prove their repentance by their deeds.”
still love you and praying you will see how much God loves you, loves us all even when we fail.

no that is not the correct understanding

the Bible records that God repented on more than one occasion

He has never been wrong and He is not wrong now

it means to change one's mind...we do that through the WORD of God and power of His Spirit...this is not something the flesh wants to hear and often does not understand...as the Bible clearly states

God gives grace for understanding..

press ahead as scripture states and keep your eyes on the prize

thank you Jenna

people want God...so sad that other people keep people from Him...sounds just like the NT, eh?

oh...amen...all God's people said AMEN
The people that "want God" need to learn the difference between the false gods and the real Jesus!

Many understand the term repentance (from the Greek word metanoia) to mean “turning from sin.” This is not the biblical definition of repentance. In the Bible, the word repent means “to change one’s mind.” The Bible also tells us that true repentance will result in a change of actions (Luke 3:8-14; Acts 3:19). Acts 26:20 declares, “I preached that they should repent and turn to God and prove their repentance by their deeds.” The full biblical definition of repentance is a change of mind that results in a change of action. (source)
This means that they CONTINUALLY being renewed and continually repenting if they are indeed "growing" and maturing in the faith.

”We want not a knowledge of thy way, O God; we choose our own way.”

"It is fine to be zealous, provided the purpose is good."
(Galatians 4:18)

18I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, white garments so that you may be clothed and your shameful nakedness not exposed, and salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see. 19Those I love, I rebuke and discipline. Therefore be earnest and repent. 20Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and dine with him, and he with Me.…

GOD's not sinful is the difference. The good news of the coming kingdom was conditioned on the word repent. Everyone knew what that meant: admit that they weren't 100% right with GOD.

You will have to forgive me. I have never been a part of a church that wounds people with badgering to repent all of the time, so I really am just looking at this from a biblical and personal-walk level. I don't have the wounds that you folks seem to have.

I have never been a part of a church that wounds people all the time either

I have, however, witnessed to, helped, counselled and prayed with folks who have

The word "repentance" - metanoia as been shown by others simply in the original greek means " to change the mind - ".

In Jesus and Paul's day the word would be used in a sentence like this. " I was going to the synagogue but I metanoia (changed my mind ) and went to the market.

There are "fruits" of repentance ( changing the mind ) as in the case above...the person "went to the market". ( every fiber of my being wants to say..."and this little piggy stayed home".....but I will refrain...:) )

To us it means to change our mind to stop relying on ourselves and our thinking and turn to God. Stop living our own life with our own thinking and come to Christ and let His life live through and in you. Receive all that Jesus did for us in His finished work.

We should be repenting ( changing how we think towards something ) constantly as we see the Lord's true nature, love and grace revealed to and in us.

There will always be "fruits" of having a changed mind ( having repented ) to God but the "fruit" is not the repentance within itself. True repentance is the "root" before the "fruit" comes.

The fruit will manifest itself in the form of having a changed heart because we are a new creation in Christ.

This will also show in behavior as the life of Christ transforms our outward life to reflect what has already happened in our inner man - that new creation in Christ
.

Sometimes our religious traditions can "hi-jack" the meanings of words and can present false assumptions.

Here is a video for those that like to watch them that talks about how the English word "repent" got hi-jacked by religion.

The whole truth does not condemn but it sets one free. You need to learn the difference between condemning and bringing forth the truth. Perhaps you are a cheerleader for the hyper grace movement?

Here is an interesting quote:

God’s mind “changes,” not because it responds to unforeseen circumstances, but because he has ordained that his mind accord with the way he himself orders the changing events of the world.

So, if we then repent, in the biblical sense, are we not changing our minds to align with the mind of God revealed to us through Christ who is the express likeness of God?

we sure cannot look at another human being for an example because we cannot even live up to our own expectations never mind our expectations in anyone else

maybe that is why even the best people we set up as heroes sooner or later fail us?

Funny that you should mention that! You follow the joel O's and rick W's and josephPs of this world. Your idea of CHRIST grace is watered down which leads people to a self pleasing ,seeker friendly worldly Jesus. Its not the Christ I have come to know and serve:)

I have been thinking about this true meaning of repenting and it is changing our mind as we learn new aspects of God's love and grace towards us in Christ.

I think we will be "repenting" throughout eternity as we see new aspects of our Lord Jesus. Praise the Lord! I love repenting. It's a major blessing from our Lord!

Ephesians 2:7 (NASB)
[SUP]7 [/SUP] so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

That sounds like "hyper repenting" to me....hey I coined a new phrase...let's all start promoting "hyper repenting" for the body of Christ!.....:D

Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
(Php 3:12-14)

...goal of repentance, even after we flubbed it.

Pro 4:18 But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, That shines brighter and brighter until the full day.
