Is it possible for a Christian (you!) :) to live the rest of your life without committing a single act of sin?

To make the discussion more clear - let's keep the "single act of sin" to mean a sin that you commit knowing that it was sin. So we are not talking about sins that you may commit that you are unaware of. Nor are we talking about mere attitudes such as pride or selfishness - these are wrong, yes, -- but for this discussion keep "a single act of sin" to mean an actual wrong act or deed that you do:

Examples: murder, swearing, gluttony, lying
Or, not witnessing to a person when the Holy Spirit prompts you to
Or, buying an extra fishing rod you don't need or won't use (and you clearly know the Spirit says - "don't buy it!)
Or, refusing to talk to Mr. "Snooty" at a party because you don't like his attitude
etc.

I wouldn't consider any of the 3 ORs to be sins, except possibly #2 if one's faith is weak and the conscience self-condemns.

Of course, you don't see my perfect walk? I mean like, have you seen such a righteous specimen in all of your life?

PS: Kidding. Christ's righteousness, imputed, is where its at!

Faith in God was counted as righteousness before Jesus shed His righteous blood as a propitiatory payment for sin on our behalf. If complete sinlessness were possible, would it not have been established as a requirement, thereby nullifying the need for the sinlessness of Jesus Christ? For we are all in the first Adam until we are reborn spiritually into the second Adam.

you would have to prove there is a law, for a believer, in new covenant.

so ware do you get your definition of sin from.

Romans 8: Life in the Spirit
1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.

why, would you talk about sin if a christian believer is free from the law of sin.

Don't let my three "or" sins get the discussion off-track. The point here is not to define what is a sin or not. Just stick to the Bilbical words such as "gluttony, lying, murder, swearing, etc." My three "or" sins were trying make clear how "attitudes" (pride, fear, covetousness, etc.) can manifest themselves in actual wrong acts and deeds (sins), but it is fair to argue over my three examples.

So, again, if it is clearer just stick to the Biblical words for sin.

Seriously though, I think the answer may be "All things are possible with God." In that respect, its a possibility I suppose. Though it would be nice to be sinless, I find great comfort in God's grace. Even though I don't meet His standard of perfection it is granted to me. It is imputed to me by Christ. Our righteousness is one of faith and not deed. So while we may attempt to attain sinlessness through sanctification, or even if we did attain it, that would not be the reason we are saved. The credit goes to the Lord, for it is by grace through faith in Christ that we are saved.

Well isn't anything Jesus said to do or not do, a commandment of His? And we are to keep all His commandments.

I think your answer, which is "No", by the way, lies right there.

In that case, I think it is possible for some to live sin free. Everybody has different baggage.

Even if a person lived sin free, it would not be outside of Christ. So they couldn't enter Heaven based upon their own merit, as if salvation was a wage due instead of a free gift. Gotta keep that in mind.

We often in our modern evangelical world look at sin as only the "biggie" sins and if we don't do them ( like adultery, stealing..etc ) - then we can live sin free.

The reality is that malice and slander and hypocrisy, and envy...etc - are just as much sin as living the homosexual lifestyle.

It's interesting that some that say others are lawless ( even though they don't know their life at all ) and say to walk in purity and righteousness are the very same ones that think it's perfectly natural and ok to slander others and exhibit malice towards them.

These are just like the ones living the so-called Christian homosexual lifestyle only they don't see themselves as the same as this group - but in reality - in God's eyes...they are doing the exact same thing.

This is not living a life that is sinless.

VVhat would be the cost of walking sinless? I feel like it would take a crazy amount of faith, chastisement, and sanctification. Truth be told, it seems like it would be a scary crash course. LOL Not that God is abusive or anything, but it might be like a lot of self abandonment. God is already sanctifying us, but that level of holiness seems like it would take a price and dedication that most probably aren't willing to do.

Its impossible for us not to sin daily. BUT, we have been washed clean of ALL our sins, past, present, and future sins.

Therefore when God looks at us we are sinless in His eyes.

1 John 1:7
[SUP]7 [/SUP]but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.

Anyone who claims to be sinless, without fault or defect, flawless 100% of the time is suffering from a terminal case of self-righteousness.

But Jesus was never what this thread is about, a Christian. Being a Christian, by it's very definition states that we are depending on someone to take care of the sins we still commit.
Our High Priest, Jesus, takes care of that. :p

Sin, sin, sin, anyone can pick out sin and dirt. It takes discernment and the eyes of God to see the gold in a person.
