I am going to start with Francis Chan. Dallas Willard is high on my list, although he just passed away last month.

Henry Blackaby is awesome, and John Piper unless he is talking about women's place in the home (Let's not get into that!)

Richard Foster has some great books out, and I liked David Platt's book about being Radical.

Now, if you have never heard of most of these names, it is likely because they don't go big on media and getting people to donate money to their earthly mansions.

Any other good teachers you have read lately? I mean that, because I always love a good book about the Bible that someone else can vouch for.

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to suggest some reading materials to anyone that enjoys a good book and insightful reading that will support scripture. I have found Grace Awakening by Chuck Swindoll a staple in life. I constantly go back to it re read underline etc. I also suggest Living Above the Level of Mediocrity by Chuck Swindoll. Rick Warren's Purpose Driven Life is a wonderful read. I know I recently purchased some of Ravi Zacharias' books End of Reason & Cries of The Heart & Has Christianity Failed you. I have not read these yet but plan on doing so. If anyone has any suggested reading materials as well please post them here and I will see about reading them. I'm interested in reading just about any Christian based book help me broaden my horizons and such. If anyone has any suggestions or thoughts don't hesitate to post or ask about some of these books I've read.

Also looking to add Brady Boyd's Sons & Daughters: Spiritual Orphans finding our way home & John Ramirez Out of the Devil's Cauldron.

I do not claim to be an avid reader but ever since picking up different books and perspectives I've begun to see things in different perspectives and its really improved my thought process and relationship with others & God.
I am quoting from a post I created earlier today. All these individuals are great authors. Rich Warren, Charles Swindoll, Brady Boyd (newlifechurch.org), Chip Ingram (livingontheedge.org), and James McDonald (walkintheword.com). Walk in the word and living on the edge are on the radio and I listen to them everyday on my way to work. The websites are also available for sermons and such. James McDonald and Brady Boyd are some of my favorite they're both funny and powerful speakers. Chip is more analytical but nonetheless has a great series on Emotions and Anger. They are all down to earth and very humble; speaking for myself I can say I can relate to nearly all of them. I would recommend those books though they're great reads! If you have any recommendations please let me know send me a message or post on here Thanks!!

God BLess

See, now some, including myself would say a couple of them are into the 'contemplative prayer' movement.
Oh well, guess that makes me a heretic.

Yes, indeed, they sure are!! LOL I hope we all spend a few hours a day or maybe a week to start praying. Even contemplating prayer would be a good start, though!

After all his years studying ancient Hebrew, Tom Bradford is wonderful for explaining the Old Testament.

I saw this post on my other topic about false teachers and loved it that you opened a topic about good teachers !
I started with Joel Osteen. I think he is a good teacher and when I listen to his messages I feel good. I think he is a good teacher for people who don’t believe to come to Christ because of his simple and easy to understand messages.
For more depth I listen to Joyce Meyer. Most of the teachers that are recommended on here I don’t know. I’ll try them once.

Christ, Paul, James, Peter, John, Jude, Moses, David, Noah, Daniel, Job...

I think you get the point, I trust NO MAN. If you want to be taught truth, hit your knees and allow this teacher to teach you...

Joh 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

There are many names on these lists that I don't know, so I will check them out, thanks for the resources. Francis Chan is very good, though I've only read one of his books. I've heard Lucy Swindoll and Sheila Walsh speak and have read a couple of Sheila's books. As I said on another thread, Joyce Meyer is my favorite.

For pure enjoyment (but with a message) check out Andy Andrews. You can find him on You Tube (he's brilliant and hilarious) and he has a number of books. Start with The Traveler's Gift. It is amazing. (Speilberg & Tom Hanks need to read this book...)

As for teachers not found in the Bible, I enjoy C.S. Lewis, Andrew Murray, John MacArthur, William Gurnall, William Tyndale, and John Wycliffe - though it's sometimes difficult to find modernised works of the last two.

I sort of go along with this, because every one of us gets a favorite way we see God. So I never read what man says is the way to do it, except when he is commenting on scripture because he studied the times the scripture was written in. I even find Matthew Henry a bit much at times. That is why I like Tom Bradford so much, and he certainly has an agenda to take into consideration and read around. He is mostly giving history and about biblical people, and taking scripture verse by verse.

So for outside reading, I like fiction. Lynn Austin did a lot of research on the times of the kings and wrote fiction around it. It is reading biblical history in a sugar coated pill, needing real study to back it up. C S Lewis' Screwtape Letters delight me, but his Mere Christianity leaves me cold. I would rather go to scripture direct for myself.

I find all history of our church wonderful. I have read all the reports of the Christian councils up to the year 1200 for instance.

Luke 16/29-31: Christ Teaching; Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses & the prophets ; let them hear them.

And he said Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.

And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

You can listen to any man, and it won't help any, if the ultimate motive is to get 10% of your money. lol
