Jesus said pride is a sin (Mark 7:20-23). I suspect some people see nothing wrong with pride and commit prideful acts anyway.

A problem with pride, I think, is that it makes people say and do mean things to other people. It is always good to obey Jesus, even if we don’t understand the reasons why.

here is the thing about pride that many people don't like to talk about: there is so much pride in religion. there is so many works-based people and all they want to do is tell you how good THEY are and how many things THEY do and don't do and THEY have it all figured out and you have to do things the way THEY do things or you are wrong.so much of this in the Church.it is sad sad sad.

Bingo! This has been the underlying theme of several of my posts (rants?) when "discussions" appear to get pretty vitriolic. Paul wrote to the Ephesians, "...I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all." (Ephesians 4:1-6)

When we elevate our opinions and interpretations to the level of fact, we are guilty of the sin of pride. And "pride brings a person low.". (Proverbs 29:23) I constantly pray that God will guard me from committing the sin of pride.

just to add this, there is nothing wrong with personal convictions. in fact ,every Christian shuold have them.but when people take there personal convictions, hpoefully given to them by the Holy Sprit, and try to force them on others then it becomes prideful and wrong.

I was happy to see this thread since this has been an issue for me in my personal bible study recently. I know I struggle with submission to His will for my life at times because, of course, I assume I know what's best for me. God lovingly laughs at my ignorance, I'm sure.:)

When I finally "got over myself", He led me to Matt. 11:28-30. Why am I taking the hard way by trying to do things my way and in my own strength? Pride not only can cause me to say and do things I regret, but it also wears me out physically.
