Why did God want to prevent Adam and Eve from eating from the tree of life to live forever? What might that have done?

This is just my understanding, but, after eating of the kind of knowledge they did, it caused (Guilt) and being (ashamed),
Can you eat from the tree of Life (Christ) with this kind of thinking?

Guilt and shame will prevent us from receiving from Him every time, they needed to be cleansed now, through the process that we all
go through. They are a picture of us all. Was it ordained? Yes.

Rom 8:20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,
Rom 8:21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

Then everyone would live forever...
Bad people included -----> imagine Hitler running around forever.
We'd overpopulate the earth, too.

It would have immortalized sin and there would be no hope for redemption.

Can you provide some Bible verses please? The tree he didn't want them to eat from was the tree of knowledge of good and evil. He put that tree there because he wanted them to choose to worship him over themselves. To truly love him. Mind you, that was ONE tree in an ENTIRE garden. You can tell that he reaaaally didn't want them to sin.

The tree of the knowledge of good and evil is just that, a KNOWLEDGE. The tree of life is also a knowledge or mindset.

Ecclesiastes 1:18

18 For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.

However we perish for LACK of knowledge. For such to grasp the mind of Christ, still being carnally minded, will be detrimental.

If God did not stop them from eating from the tree of life, it would have cause mankind to live in sin for eternity.

it was not God's will for man to eat at that particular time. But their will be a time.
Revelation of John 22:14: Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

It seems apparent to me that man was made mortal but needed the tree of life to sustain him. Being denied access to the tree of life was part of the curse.

Gen 3:22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever:
Gen 3:23 Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.

Brandon777,
This is the way i interpret this:
By Gen 2:9, All the trees in the Garden GOD planted were pleasant to the eyes and good for food, including the Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, which were the only two int the center of the Garden. By REV 22:1-3 (a vision of the same Garden, only somewhat changed), the Tree of Life is described as a Tree growing on both sides of the River of Life, which implies it appears as two trees; therefore, since this is the same Garden as in the Beginning, it must be that both trees in the Center of the Garden are the Tree of Life. Of course, Adam was only told the name of the one he could not eat from, but not the name of the Tree of Life (at least the bible never says the LORD GOD told him); but, either way, because the two trees are the same type, they bare the same fruit; therefore, Adam was never tempted to eat from the 'forbidden' one, since he could freely eat from the tree right next to the forbidden one, which bared the same fruit. Even more so, because the LORD GOD warned him of the dire consequences of committing the sin of eating from the forbidden tree, which was a sure death in that day, he even had more reason not to eat it. And as long as Adam did not eat from the forbidden tree (did not sin), he could freely eat from the Tree of Life; however, once he did sin, he was driven from the Garden, and, because he could no linger eat from the tree of life, he began to die physically

The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil was so named for Adam because as long as he did not eat from it, his conscience told him he was doing good; but, once he did eat from it, his conscience was immediately
stricken with the guilt of having done evil. And for this cause, as was the Promise, he died a spiritual death, for the Spirit left him (and her), and they lost the Glory (Likeness of the Lord) of GOD, which is Light.

You see, GOD held back nothing from Adam (except a little bit of knowledge), it only seemed that way. Foolish Adam, he lost the world, his life, ours lives, and his soul, all for a bite of a fruit he already had access to (unknowingly)!

What would have saved Adam, believing what GOD SPOKE and doing accordingly (nothing, don't eat), is the same process which saves today! How awesome and unchanging is that!! And to all who refuse to Justify GOD, get this right: GOD DID NOT WANT ADAM TO SIN, NOR DID HE KNOW THAT ADAM WOULD; BUT, HE HAD A PLAN EITHER WAY.

I tend to lean toward this view.
