When He was on Earth in the flesh He focused mainly on Hebrews/Jews, but right before His ascension He told them to teach the Gentiles what He had taught them.

Disciples sent out before Sacrifice/Resurrection:

Matthew 10:5, "יהושע sent these twelve out, having commanded them, saying, “Do not go into the way of the nations, and do not enter a city of the Shomeronim,"6, "but rather go to the lost sheep of the house of Yisra’ĕl."7, "“And as you go, proclaim, saying, ‘The reign of the heavens has drawn near.’"8, "“Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. You have received without paying, give without being paid."9, "“Do not acquire gold or silver or copper for your money-belts,"10, "or a bag for the journey, or two undergarments, or sandals, or staffs, for the worker is worthy of his food."11, "“And into whatever city or village you enter, ask who is worthy in it, and stay there until you leave."12, "“And as you enter into a house, greet it."13, "“And if the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it. But if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you."14, "“And whoever does not receive you nor hear your words, when you leave that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet."

Disciples sent out after Sacrifice/Resurrection:

Matthew 28:18-20, “And יהושע came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, immersing them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Set-apart Spirit, teaching them to guard all that I have commanded you. And see, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” Awmĕin."

nations” is word #G1484 ἔθνος ethnos (eth'-nos) n., 1. a race (as of the same habit), i.e. a tribe., 2. (specially) a foreign (non-Jewish) one, Gentiles., 3. (usually, by implication) pagan., [probably from G1486], KJV: Gentile, heathen, nation, people , Root(s): G1486

As to why, I believe it was because Israyl, while many had gone astry, many knew Yah and would most likely create a stronger base there, then there would be more to speak the truth to the rest of the world.

Luke 10:1, "And after this the Master appointed seventy others, and sent them two by two ahead of Him into every city and place where He Himself was about to go."

He had many many followers throughout His time on earth.

Mat 14:13-21, “Now when יהושע heard it, He withdrew from there by boat to a deserted place, by Himself. And when the crowds heard it, they followed Him on foot from the cities."14:14, "And when יהושע came out, He saw a large crowd and was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick."14:15, "And when evening came, His taught ones came to Him, saying, “This is a deserted place, and the hour is already late. Dismiss the crowds, so that they might go into the villages and buy food for themselves.”"14:16, "But יהושע said to them, “They do not need to go away, give them to eat yourselves.”"14:17, "And they said to Him, “We have here only five loaves and two fish.”"14:18, "And He said, “Bring them here to Me.”"14:19, "And commanding the crowds to sit down on the grass, and taking the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to the heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the taught ones. And the taught ones gave to the crowds,"14:20, "and all ate and were satisfied. And they picked up the pieces left over – twelve baskets, filled."14:21, "And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children."

Salvation is of the Jew first then the Gentile. Because Israel rejected Christ as their Messiah the blessing was passed to the Gentiles. The Gentiles are now used of God to provoke the Jew to jealousy. One day Israel will see Christ as their Messiah promised to them by Jehovah and then they will be saved as it were in a day.

1. Because Gentiles or Samaritans would receive Him and He would not die on the cross etc.

2. Because Israel was the nation of preparation for Christ, so they had some kind of a primacy to hear the gospel first.

Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is God's power for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, and also to the Greek.

“First to the Jew, then to the Gentile.” (Romans 1:16). The time to save the Gentiles did not start until Jesus purchased His church with His blood, and introduced “Whosoever will.” Until then, salvation belonged to the Jews.

Matthew 10:5-6

5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:

God gave His disciples strict orders to stay clear, do not approach the Gentiles. This order was because it was not the time of the Gentiles yet. Jesus still had to pay the price on the cross, before the way would be open to all mankind.

When they went out, this was their first priority to give the gospel.

6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

Now does this say "go to the Jews", or "Go to Judah"? No. It says "Go to the lost sheep of the House of Israel". The sons of Judah know where they are, and who they are; there is nothing lost about them. In fact, when these Jews came to Jesus in their self-righteous attitude, they came to trick Him up, because of this He would answer their questions in parables to keep the kingdom message a mystery from them. Jesus didn't even imply that the disciples should go to the House of Judah.

If you are lost, it means that that person doesn't know who they are. They are not in Jerusalem anymore, but gone to another area completely, and lost their identity to themselves. As a Christian, it should be your priority to learn who these lost "House of Israel" are, or you will not be able to rightly divide the Word of truth. To understand the parables that Jesus Christ taught you need to understand the parable of the sower concerning the children of the good and the bad; which is the prime root of the "key of David". This topic we will discuss in detail in Matthew 13.

This is a very simple message, but it is a total mystery to much of the church world today, and they attach the Jews, good and bad, as the lost sheep of the House of Israel. God is the same yesterday, today and forever, and that message continues right to today. So how do you prepare yourself to go out and plant the seed of the word of God when the simplest parts of God's mystery are overlooked?

Yes , nobody talks about the 'lost sheep of Israel' today ....nobody asks who or where they are....certainly not the Jews of today all known to the world and only a small part of Israel. So who and where is the 'majority as the sand on the seashore ?
Obviously lost even to themselves !

Romas 9:25 As he says in Hosea: “I will call them ‘my people’ who are not my people; and I will call her ‘my loved one’ who is not my loved one,”

Romans 9:26 and, “In the very place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people,’ there they will be called ‘children of the living God.’ ”

Hosea 1:9 Then the LORD said, “Call him Lo-Ammi (which means “not my people”), for you are not my people, and I am not your God.

Hosea 1:10 “Yet the Israelites will be like the sand on the seashore, which cannot be measured or counted. In the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people,’ they will be called ‘children of the living God.’

Hose 1:11 The people of Judah and the people of Israel will come together; they will appoint one leader and will come up out of the land, for great will be the day of Jezreel.

Paul is quoting Hosea as being fulfilled when he wrote to the Romans.

In his letter to the Corinthians he's also claiming the fulfillment of Ezekiel:

Ezekiel 37:26-27 I will make a covenant of peace with them. It shall be an everlasting covenant with them. And I will set them in their land and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in their midst forevermore. My dwelling place shall be with them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

2 Cor 6:16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

What is significant about Paul's use of Ezekiel here is prior to the above is the regathering of Israel under on stick - bringing the tribes together as one:

Ezek 37:16 Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companions:

Ezek 37:17 And join them one to another into one stick; and they shall become one in thine hand.

Why did Jesus tell his disciples to go only to the Israels and not to the Gentiles and Samaritans? (Matthew 10:5-6)
Hi Devin,

The New Covenant was made with Israel and Judah, the divided kingdom. So naturally Jesus would come to them first.
