I have a few questions

1) Are all the commandments important? If they are then why is the sabbath day deemed as unimportant by the vast majority of Christians? Why does no one talk about not coveting either?

2) Should we still obey all of the commandments today?

3) Why is it in revelations the ark of the coventant which holds the ten commandments is seen in Gods throne room? If the ten commandments are part of the mosaic law where is the rest of the 600 laws?

4) why were the ten commandments set apart written by Gods own hand in stone and then put in a really pretty box?

Once we have answered 1-4 I wanna go into more detail about the ten commandments.

5) What is an idol?

6) Does the second commandment still apply today? If so how? (the second command talks about not bowing to gods made to look like Gods creation)

7) what does it really mean to covet your neighbors goods and how can we avoid it?

8) Is it really that hard to keep the ten commandments? Are they really that bad when you look at them? Please be honest here. All they are really saying is to love God, put him first, don't worship anything or anyone else, rest on saturday, don't steal, don't murder, don't covet, ect. So are those things REALLY that restricting and can they really be called the mosaic law?

That's all I have for now. Please pray before posting and keep it civil. None of these questions are sarcastic in any way. I am looking for honest answers for all of them.

Thanks.

It doesn't say in Revelation that the 10 commandments are in the ark. The ark mentioned there is figurative language for Christ. He is the true ark.

Why does it seem like Jesus is...everything? I mean he is everything but according to some people he is the ark and he is the sabbath...that makes no sense.

Gentiles have never been under the 10 commandments, or any part of the law of Moses. Acts 15 proves that.

The righteousness demanded by the law (i.e., love of GOD and love of man) is not achievable by following commandments. That can only be accomplished through GOD's indwelling spirit through faith.

He is everything. All of the OT points to him. Nothing in the OT has any meaning apart from him. He's GOD. What else is there?

They are talking about something VERY specfic though. They were talking about literal circumcision. (Acts 15:5) also notice how he says the law of Moses. The law of moses is not the ten commandments (at least I don'the believe it is). You can'take throw verses concerning the mosaic law at me because I don't believe the ten commandments to be mosaic law. That's like telling me I'm holding a snake when I am really holding a piece of pie. We cannot have this argument unless we answer the other questions first because that will help us determine whether or not the ten commandments are or are not mosaic law.

Maybe you should read the entire OP and respond to the whole thing....

So is it OK to lie, steal and worship other gods? JW.

Should we be studying the written code or concentrate on following after the holy spirit? ( rom 7:6)

Romans 7:14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.

Are all the commandments spiritual?

Matthew 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Is it really that hard to be perfect like God is Perfect?

John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

Easy, Simple, Commandments...

2 Corinthians 3:14-15
[SUP]14 [/SUP]But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.
[SUP]15 [/SUP]But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.

When you are trying to keep commandments and thinking you are doing it your mind is blinded. There is a vail upon your heart. You have not yet come to Christ. Maybe you think you have.

Only when you realize that you can't keep the commandments will you truly come to Christ and ask for His Help. When you do, that is when the vail comes off. That is when you are re-born.

Romans 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

If the 10 commandments was given to Moses then we might call them the mosaic law just like we would call laws given the Levites the levitical law

So we can go worship other gods, lie, steal, and murder? Oh wait...Jesus covered munder so we can't get angry, divorce is out of the question, so all that is left is we can worship other gods, not keep the sabbath, use God's name in vain, covet, and disobey our parents. Do I have that about right?

So then you are all saying that it is ok to worship other gods, make idols, use God's name in vain and not keep the sabbath? Because we are not under the law right? This is a legit question.

Do you believe if we follow after the holy spirit he will lead us to worship other gods, lie steal and murder, take the lords name in vain, covet and disobey our parents?

I have only been to one church where I have heard people laugh as they took the lords name in vain, and it wasn't a Sunday service!

To respond to worshiping other Gods. Jesus covers this.

Luke 4:8 (NASB)
[SUP]8 [/SUP] Jesus answered him, "It is written, 'YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD AND SERVE HIM ONLY.'"

Here we see what Jesus has to say about Commandments as well

Matthew 19:17-19 (NASB)

[SUP]17 [/SUP] And He said to him, "Why are you asking Me about what is good? There is only One who is good; but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments."
[SUP]18 [/SUP] Then he *said to Him, "Which ones?" And Jesus said, "YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT MURDER; YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY; YOU SHALL NOT STEAL; YOU SHALL NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS;
[SUP]19 [/SUP] HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER; and YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF."

The Christian life has nothing to do with keeping commandments from Moses. Jesus fulfilled those for us. So now we believe in Him and His life in us fulfills the law of love.

The true Christian life is starting with grace and finishing with grace. It's all about Jesus!

So what comes to mind to me about this is Romans 13:9. So aren't we still in some sense under the 10 commandments it's just they're all summed up in one phrase.

We love God so we are going to obey Him. It is when we are so focused on the law we lose sight on Jesus. I think what the OP has an issue with is if we focus on Jesus and not the law we are going to do anything we want to because we can just ask for forgiveness. Our love for Christ is going to keep us from sinning (hopefully).
