Not all of them were from Afghanistan. But yes, that's what happened. Before new safety regulations were in place, it wasn't exactly hard to sneak things into a plane and hijack it. That one Cuban guy did it, and that guy that bailed out of the plane with a parachute did it. It was definitely NOT unheard of for people to take over planes, but most never used it as terror, just for hostage purposes.
