This is something that I never knew about in the Gospels. it seems like no one ever talks about this!

[h=3]Matthew 27:50-53[/h]New International Version (NIV)

50 And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.
51 At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split 52 and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. 53 They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and[a] went into the holy city and appeared to many people.
[h=4]Footnotes:[/h]
  1. Matthew 27:53 Or tombs, and after Jesus’ resurrection they

How would you feel if the messiah died and the earth shook

and then David and Solomon come out of their tombs to be raised again! That is so cool to me

In the OT under the sacrificial system it speaks of death differently than physical death is spoken of in the NT, and some people have wondered if death was different before Christ lived with us as a man. Before they would say something like "he went to live with his ancestors". On the cross Christ told the thief he would be with Him that day.

Some people think that when Christ was crucified the people who lived through the shadow of Christ as the sacrificial system was were released to heaven, based on these scriptures.
