This question is something that I pondered over with some friends. God made everything in 6 days, and on the 7th day, He rested. So does that mean that God has limits to His powers? Creating such a huge universe, would take a lot of energy and the thought process, sheesh, our God is amazing. But does He have limits to his Divine powers? Let me know what you guys think, your opinions and thoughts, and even scriptures about what you find, about this subject.

Thank you and God Bless

Genesis is written for Israel and Moses (or whoever wrote it) made it symbolically accomodated to Israel' Law like 7th day Sabbath.

Do not take it technically.
God does not have some amount of "energy" that He must rest to gain it again.
God does not regret of what He has done (like is written before flood).
God does not need rainbow to remember what He promised (as said to Noah).
And similar.

You really need to distinguish antropomorphisms in the Bible so that you will not get blasphemious ideas about God's essence and power.

God 'ceased work' because His work was finished. He did not need to 'rest'

Rest has several meanings; and God resting on the 7th day has even more meaning.

When the Lord gathers his people from the four winds, He will then rest within them (Zephaniah 3:17).

Zephaniah 3:17 The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.

Corroborating the 7th day in which the Lord commences to rest in his people is a day in our future is Hebrews 4:3-5.

Hebrews 4:3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.

The creation in Genesis is then the Lord declaring all of creation from its inception through to the end (Isaiah 46:10).

Isaiah10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

“[T]he [ETERNAL] hath given you the Sabbath.” Nowhere in all God’s Word
can you find any statement that “The Eternal hath given you Sunday.”

“For by him [Christ] were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth,
visible and invisible …. And he is the head of the body, the church …”(Colossians 1:16, 18).

The Sabbath was made by Jesus Christ for man, and He said plainly that
He is Lord also of the Sabbath!

It was made for mankind, not just for the jews but[ all flesh] even animals.

On the seventh day He MADE THE SABBATH! But the Sabbath was made, not by work,
but by rest. What He ended on the seventh day was the work of creation—that which was
created by work! On the seventh day He rested! He created the Sabbath by resting.

Was He so fatigued He was forced to stop and rest?
Positively not, for God “fainteth not, neither is weary”! (Isaiah 40:28).

Yet, this was a real rest, because in Exodus 31:17 it is written: “…
in six days the Lord [Christ] made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested,
and was refreshed.” Since He was “refreshed” by this rest, it was a real rest.

Yet He was not tired or weary! Why did He rest? To put His divine presence in that day!
He made the Sabbath day by resting, whereas He had made all other things by working!

Notice further! Also He “blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it”!
What does “sanctified” mean? Look in your dictionary.
It means “set apart, for holy use or purpose.” He set apart this day
from other days—set it apart for holy use—for a day of physical
rest, in which His people may assemble and worship God!

Therefore what God did—and God did it by Christ—was to make future TIME holy!

No man has power to make anything holy. God alone is holy—or whatever God has
made holy! No group or organization of men has authority to make future time holy!

Gods presence is Holy

“Moses! Moses!” called God, “… put off thy shoes from off thy feet,
for the place whereon thou standest is HOLY GROUND” (Exodus 3:2-5).

The ground a mile away was not holy. Why did it make any difference whether Moses
took off his shoes—or where? Here is why! The ground where he then stood was holy .
He was required, by God, to treat holy ground with a respect he did not treat other ground.

And why? Well, what made that particular bit of ground holy?
God’s very presence was in that ground! God is holy !
God’s presence in that bush made the ground around it holy!

In the very same manner, God’s presence is in His Sabbath.
He rested on that first Sabbath to put His presence in that day!

This made it holy time! Four thousand years later, when this same “Logos,” or “Word,”
was made flesh—when He came as Jesus Christ in the human flesh—
He was still putting His presence in that same weekly recurring Sabbath—

He went into the synagogues as His custom was!

In Gen 2:2 God ceased from working.

He did this because:

1) His work was finished.

2) He wanted to set an example. [how do I know this? ] because,

in Gen 2:3 God sanctified the seventh day. sanctified He set it apart and declared it Holy.

So then it appears that, like circumcision, the Sabbath preceded the Law.

This does NOT alter the fact that like circumcision Sabbath keeping is not obligatory on gentile believers.

Since the word GOD itself means the one who is OMNIPOTENT (has all power and infinite power) His resting on the 7th day simply means that he was TOTALLY SATISFIED with His creation, and had also set a pattern for man's work week.

If you will keep in mind that God could have easily created the whole universe in one second -- had He chosen to do so -- it would remind you that there are absolutely no limits to the power of God. Therefore Jesus said "With God ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE".

But the seventh day was to be a day set aside by human beings for rest and recuperation, and more importantly for worship.

8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

9
Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:

10
But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger thatis within thy gates:

11
For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. (Exodus 29:8-11).

Thank you all for replying to this post. For some of you, this may seem offensive to the Heavenly Father. Weather you think of it as blasphemy, or not, if I don't ask the question, how can I, and we, grow together in Faith with our Father. I truly believe with all my heart that there is a God, this is without a doubt. This is a question to help all of us grow. I for one do NOT, believe that He has limits to His Divine powers, that His works was completed, and finished, and there's no need to go on. I merely want to learn what everyones thought process and what they think of the subject at hand. Best believe, I do believe that God rested on the 7th day. Thank you all for sharing, have a wonderful day.

God Bless

I don’t believe He rested means God needed a break or something similar . I taken it to mean that He stoped His work . Maybe better put God was no longer active in creating the world . Like when some one says that a moving object comes to rest in stead of saying it stoped .
Thats my two cents .
Blessings

God finished His creative work in 6 days then rested the 7th. He said everything He created was very good. I don't think God needed the rest I think He wanted to spend some quality time with what He had just created and let man get to know Him. A bonding experience and then every 7 days He wants to have that bonding experience again. We know it as the Sabbath.

No. Sometimes He does things for our benefit. For example, Jesus didn’t need to get baptized, He had no sins to wash away. He did it because we are to follow His example. When Elijah was encouraging the prophets of Baal to send fire, he said maybe your god is sleeping or on vacation. Our God does not sleep, and needs no breaks. But the fact that He rested shows He can do anything.

"Gen. 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it (set it apart): because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made."
God blessed the seventh day. When we rest with him in it, we rest in him and are refreshed and blessed by him.
"Ex. 31:13,16-17-----Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign (proof) between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you (set you apart for myself)."
"16 Wherefore the children of Israel (he who prevails with God) shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant (continuous contract with God)."
"17 It is a sign (proof) between me (God) and the children of Israel (he who prevails with God) for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed."
God made a covenant with man. All who keep the sabbath will be refreshed and blessed in him. It's a day set apart for man. If we keep it, it proves to God that we fear him and we will be blessed accordingly.
Is. 58:13-14 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth,"
HAPPY SABBATH DAY EVERYONE !

I see the Sabbath as a foreshadowing of our total rest in Christ
(Col 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ)..
This rest is still to come, none have yet entered into it, any that clkaim they hav are making up their own definition:

2 Thessalonians 1:5-10, “Clear evidence of the righteous judgment of יהוה, in order for you to be counted worthy of the reign of יהוה, for which you also suffer, since יהוה shall rightly repay with affliction those who afflict you, and to give you who are afflictedrest with us when the Master יהושע is revealed from heaven with His mighty messengers, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know יהוה, and on those who do not obey the Good News of our Master יהושע Messiah, who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Master and from the esteem of His strength, when He comes to be esteemed in His set-apart ones and to be admired among all those who believe in that Day, because our witness to you was believed.”

Even if our rest in Christ is yet to come, Sabbath keeping is not a commandment for Gentiles. Have you ever seen a single person on this earth who keeps the Sabbath properly. Of course not!

Even if our rest in Christ is yet to come, Sabbath keeping is not a commandment for Gentiles.
I do not beleive this to be Scriptually true:

Isaiah 56:1-7, “Thus said יהוה, “Guard right-ruling, and do righteousness, for near is My deliverance to come, and My righteousness to be revealed. Blessed is the man who does this, and the son of man who becomes strong in it, guarding the Sabbath lest he profane it, and guarding his hand from doing any evil. And let not the son of the gentile who has joined himself to יהוה speak, saying, ‘יהוה has certainly separated me from His people,’ nor let the eunuch say, ‘Look I am a dry tree.’ For thus said יהוה, “To the eunuchs who guard My Sabbaths, and have chosen what pleases Me, and are holding onto My covenant: to them I shall give in My house and within My walls a place and a name better than that of sons and daughters – I give them an everlasting name that is not cut off. Also the sons of the gentile who join themselves to יהוה, to serve Him, and to love the Name of יהוה, to be His servants, all who guard the Sabbath, and not profane it, and are holding onto My covenant, them I shall bring to My set-apart mountain, and let them rejoice in My house of prayer. Their ascending offerings and their sacrifices are accepted on My altar, for My house is called a house of prayer for all the peoples.”

Have you ever seen a single person on this earth who keeps the Sabbath properly. Of course not!
If this is true or not I can not say, I fell at times I have honored Yah's holy day, if it was properly that is for Him to decide, but to say none can do it, then we are faced with 2 choices.

Apply this to any onterh Command, and see if it is a right principle, none can ever go their entire life without lying so:

None can do it perfectly, yet I will still seek to do Yah's will.

None can do it perfectly, so I will do whatever I choose

Also we must remember about the Sabbath:

Isaiah 58:11-14, "YHWH will guide you continually, and satisfy your soul in drought, and make fat; (strengthen), your bones. You will be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. And those of you will rebuild the old waste places; you will raise up the foundations of many generations; and you will be called the Repairer of the Breach, the Restorer of Streets to Dwell In; If you turn away your foot from breaking the Sabbath: from doing your pleasure; your own business, your own pleasure, on My holy day, and call the Sabbath a delight; the holy day of YHWH honorable, and will honor Him by not doing your own ways, nor finding your own pleasure, nor engaging in idle conversation: Then you will find your joy in YHWH; and I will cause you to ride on the high places of the earth, and feed you with the heritage of Yaaqob your father, for the mouth of YHWH has spoken it."

Mat 12:12, "And how much more valuable is a man than a sheep? Therefore, it is Lawful to do righteousness on the Sabbath."
