Could each Trumpet be a period of time that keeps getting shorter as we go like birth pains. Just want to see what others think I am not saying this is the answer. There are alot of partial fulfillments and that could be all this is.
Revelation Trumpets
Trumpet 1 Rev 8:7
The first angel sounded his trumpet, and there came hail and fire mixed with blood, and it was hurled down upon the earth. A third of the earth was burned up, a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up.
WW I
First time airplanes used in war on this scale. Bombs and gunfire, as bombs fell to the earth they mingled with blood. This is the first time a scorch earth policy was used. The Russians and Germans made sure nothing was left behind when they retreated.
Trumpet 2 Rev 8:8-9
8 The second angel sounded his trumpet, and something like a huge mountain, all ablaze, was thrown into the sea. A third of the sea turned into blood, 9 a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed.
WWII
The Bombing of Hiroshima, a country in the sea and also a gentile nation. One third of all ships in this war were destroyed.

Then the third angel sounded: And a great star fell from heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water. 11 The name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters became wormwood, and many men died from the water, because it was made bitter.
Chernobyl = wormwood 1986
People died from drinking the water after this happened. The Chernobyl nuclear power plant is located next to the Pripyat River and that feeds into the Dnipro river, One of the largest surface water systems in Europe. Lakes and ground water were also affected. There are to this day more people in that area that get cancer.

The fourth angel sounded his trumpet, and a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them turned dark. A third of the day was without light, and also a third of the night.
Gulf war 1991
Darkness from smoke from the oil fires covered Western Asia from about the end of February to end of June. Some say it was 5 months. It is also said because it was the desert that the green of the earth was not harmed. The allies’ army did not go to war until after the smoke had already darkened the sky. The locust and the scorpions are thought to be the weapons of the Allie forces. The British armored vehicles at that time were called scorpions. The people of western Asia are mostly Islamic people so they did not have the seal of GOD in their forehead. It was shameful in Islamic culture for people to surrender and not be a martyred. The war lasted more then 5months August 1990 – Febuary 1991 but it was not really considered over until November 1995. If this is taken as the 5th trumpet that would make the allied forces under the authority of the king of the bottomless pit. This does not fit completely with the 5th trumpet so this must be the 4th trumpet.

Revelation 13 Beast comes out of the sea. The sea can also be known as the bottomless pit depending on how it is used. Mortally wounded means he died and this is how he can come up out of the bottomless pit.
