nah, it just boils down to

1: Can it harm you or others?
2: Are your motives right?

Dancing is fun:
And David danced before the LORD with all his might

Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp.
For the LORD taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation.

Singing is fun:
Sing to the Lord, all the earth; Proclaim good tidings of His salvation from day to day

Music is fun:
3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
praise him with the harp and lyre,
4 praise him with timbrel and dancing,
praise him with the strings and pipe,
5 praise him with the clash of cymbals,
praise him with resounding cymbals.

6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.

Praise the Lord.

It's just that it feels wrong.

Like with liquor why would you drink it unless you wanted to get drunk? When I see Christians who do social drinking I can't help but see them as just trying to fit in and be cool. I know I shouldn't judge them, but that's how see I them and it stings. Alcohol really doesn't taste that great unless your drinking it to get drunk. I know Catholics do communion with wine. I think that's different.

I think the root of the problem here isn't discerning right from wrong in a few different scenarios, it's being able to discern true from false when the information is coming from people we view as authorities. We want to believe them because they are authorities, but what to do when they contradict each other?

What others have told you here is quite right- know your scriptures and know them well. That's the best and really only way to know what God really wants from us and for us.

Additionally, though, recognize that all human beings are flawed and often times we cannot help but insert our own opinions and allow our personal thoughts to influence how we interpret scripture. What one person reads as a hard and fast rule (like all alcohol is bad all the time) someone else reads as a call to moderation and self control. One person thinks all secular music is evil, while another thinks some secular music can be quite uplifting so we should take it on a case by case basis.

I tend to shy away from the notion that so many things are pure evil all the time and should always be avoided at all costs. It's a cynical, negative view and I'm not a cynical, negative person. I recognize that some people do not have the luxury of nuance... they NEED clear cut, hard and fast rules. It makes it easier for them to stay on their walk with the Lord, so those rules and traditions and everything else are very good for them. Others spend more time in the world, but are spiritually connected and can see right from wrong... they can see the good in the bad and the bad in the good and make those calls.

It's like disciples (students) vs apostles (messengers). We should try to be both, but people have different gifts and are better suited for different things. Some of the smartest theologians I know are terrible apologists. They don't know how to talk to lost people in a lost world, but once you're saved they can answer loads of questions! Then there are others who may not know the original Greek or Hebrew and they don't know a 'dispensation' from a hole in the ground, but they know how to touch people's hearts and shine a light to the Lord. They know how to talk to lost people.

You are still a growing Christian. Hear what people are saying to you, know why they are saying it, and put it through the filter of Biblical knowledge and understanding. You will know Him better and you will know yourself better and you'll start to get more clarity. Make sure any convictions you feel are from the Lord and not just a desire for approval from His flawed followers. Sometimes the expectations of our fellow Christians can be more difficult and complicated than what God is asking of us.
Yeah well see when take something and ask myself if it's right or wrong according to the Bible, it always comes up as wrong. Like I come to the conclusion that being around people is wrong because they tempt me to sin, watching TV is wrong because it's filled with sin, and on and on. Pretty soon I start thinking I'd be better off dead because there's soo much evil and I can't avoid it. I'm stuck when I try to think "Is this glorifying to God or myself?"

Yeah, we are told to be in the world, but not of the world. Considering how completely evil the world is, it seems like it would be so much easier for Christians to close themselves off into little communes where they never really have to face evil at all.

But God says to get out there and don't close yourself off.

Why do you think He wants us to be out there and face all of these struggles and endless temptations?

legalism will do that to you every time...keep you in my prayers

remember to study about God's grace and what it means.

yes the world is evil but Jesus laughed and had close friends and did not hide and prayed that His disciples NOT be taken out of the world but that God keep them from evil as they live IN the world and be lights To the world.

How is it legalism if I'm doing what I think the Bible says?

To try our faith I guess.
Absolutely!

Our tests and trials give us the opportunity to overcome and persevere! And perseverance brings proven character and hope! Romans 5:1-5

I've said before in my own testimony that it was hard for me to understand why God would let me just walk away from Him like I did...why didn't He stop me? But I realize now that if I hadn't faced so many tests and struggles and spent so much time pondering some big things, I wouldn't have any conviction today. I would be one of those Christians that treats church like a club and the Bible like an accessory.

But the darkness is scary. It's easy to get lost out there. But if we put on the Armor of God, we can handle anything. It's not so scary anymore and we don't have to fear getting lost.

1) Is it wrong to go to the pool? The pastor said in a sermon once that it's wrong to go to the pool. I don't know what to think because my mom has always taken me there and everyone else seems fine with going to the pool.

2) Is drinking wrong? One side of the family says to never drink. I've heard pastors who said that the alcohol in Bible times wasn't nearly as strong as the stuff now because the people in Bible times didn't the same kind of proccess and machines. They said that it was more like grape juice if anything. On the other hand, the other side of the family are drinkers with whiskey collections and bars in their basements.

3) Is it wrong to listen to rock music? The I've heard some Christians say that ALL rock music is bad. A few weeks ago the Sunday school teachers said to not listen to rock music, but I've never heard anyone say why not to. My mom and everyone listen to it and I really don't see what's wrong with it.

4) Is swearing wrong? One side of my family says not to swear, but the other side is like bleep bleep bleep.

I feel guilty when I do that because it's like "Oh this is wrong I'm sinning." But then I don't know if I'm really sinning because everyone says something different. Like I go from one extreme where I make a list with really strict rules like "no rock music at all, no watching TV, only read the Bible, no make up or perfume or anything vain, etc.". I set up a procedure to punish myself if I do wrong and a strict time schedule for everything so I don't slack off and quite. To the other extreme where I just do what I want when I want. No rules at all. Idk God says if we love Him we'll keep His commandments and that we should avoid temptation and the appearace of evil, but how far are we supposed to go. I want to have peace with God but don't know how far to go with rules. I've read the Bible but I get mixed signals.
One should avoid swearing. Drink as little as possible. Nothing wrong with rock music, though there might be something wrong with the message in some rock songs. It’s okay to go to the pool.

1. No, that is absolutely ridiculous. You're not going to get pregnant from going to the pool lol
2. If you get drunk then yes
3. No I think it's fine even the non Christian type
4. If you can uplift the person and curse at the same time go at it.
