They are NOT fallen angels. Read the Word!! Jude 1:6 tells us that those that fell with Lucifer are BOUND! Angels cannot enter people, save Lucifer/satan himself and then only when he is to do so to become the anti-Christ and then at God's will.
They can turn it on and off like a lightswitch as demonstrated by the angel that caused himself to be visible to Balaam's donkey, but not to Balaam himself. At first. What you are not understanding here is that Balaam did not have the spiritual eyes to see the angel. His heart was hard and he served himself... he could not see the spiritual realm. That the donkey saw the angel simply shows that he, the donkey, was able to see and Balaam was not. Because of the hardness of his heart, Balaam's eyes were closed. Angles do not 'turn it off and on like a switch'. They appear to man ONLY when God says for them to do it.
The only difference I see is that demons are not able to demonstrate their power unless given permission to do so....by us. I don't fear that some demon might seize upon me someday and possess me because I open no portal for it to do so.Christians cannot be possessed by demons, they are possessed/OWNED by the Holy Spirit and belong to Christ (John 17:9) But those who deal in tarrot cards, ouji boards, and other occultic practices give specific permissions for demons to manifest themselves. No, it gives the demons permission to OPPRESS. There is a difference. It would seem that only people can open themselves up to the demonic realm. It can also be done TO a person by others, such as abuse. A legion of demons could not possess a herd of swine until Jesus gave them permission to do so. True. But demons cannot violate the will of man and even though the Gadarene was completely controlled by the demons that sought to kill him, they could not stop him from approaching Jesus and choosing to get free.
It's telling that even in the remotest corners of the world, even in primitave tribes in the Amazon, people have a concept of demons and regard them with fear. Superstitiously they devise a variety of chants, amulets, and ceremonies that they believe will ward off evil spirits. Could this be if they've never seen one?
I'm a big fan of Frank Peretti's fiction. He seems to have a grasp of this concept as well. The demons in the various stories he tells are not able to manifest themselves until people have an intercourse with them. And that is truly fictional BULL. But then literary license has always portrayed fiction in such a way that it it believeable.
