Who Is Your Apostle?
Many Christians today are confused or have never thought about the fact that they have an Apostle that is God’s will for us to follow in the age that we live in today.

Here are the bible verses that you will find out about who your Apostle is.
God’s will IS for all Christians to follow the Apostle assigned to the age we live in. This enables us to get our doctrine from our Apostle to live by, so we understand our place in Christ and know we are in God’s will!
All verses are King James Version (KJV)

To whom were the 12 apostles sent?
Matt. 10:5-6
5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:
6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
To whom were the 12 NOT sent?
(Matt. 10:5-6) (Same verse as above)

To whom were the 12 apostles sent after the resurrection?
Matt. 28:19
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
How far did the 12 get in their commission? (Acts 8:1 & 11:19)
Acts 8
1 And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles.
Acts 11:19
19 Now they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but unto the JEWS ONLY.
After the final rejection of Christ by the Jews, to whom was Paul sent?
Acts 22:21
21 And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles.

In the following verses, to whom does Paul, guided by the Holy Spirit, say he was sent?
Romans 11:13
13 For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:
Galatians 2:7-8
7 But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter;
8 (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:)
Ephesians 3:1,2,8
1 For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles,
2 If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:
8 Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;
Colossians 1:25-27
25 Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;
26 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:
27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
1Timothy 2:7
7 Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.
2Timothy 1:11
11 Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.
Who does Paul say we (Gentiles) are to follow?
1Corinthians 4:15-16
15 For though ye have ten thousand instructers in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.
16 Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me.
1Corinthians 11:1
1 Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.
1Thessalonians 4:1
1 Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.
1Timothy 1:16
16 Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.
2 Timothy 1:13
13 Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
2 Timothy 2:2
2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

Clearly the Word of God teaches that the 12 were sent to the 12 tribes of Israel and Paul to the Gentiles.
We follow the Lord Jesus Christ as we follow Paul.
God’s will for us today in this age of grace is to follow Paul our Apostle. Paul wrote the books Romans through Philemon. It is in these new testament books that we find our doctrine and the will of God for our everyday lives in this age of Grace in which we live today.

Biblical Word Meaning:
Gentiles = All that are NOT Jews and NOT under the Kingdom Gospel
(Includes all that are alive today, even Jews as they rejected the Kingdom Gospel in that Jesus was to be their King and all nations were to be saved through Israel. The Kingdom Gospel will be resumed and fulfilled during the tribulation)

Samaritans = Were Gentiles

House of Israel = Jewish faith

uncircumcision = Gentiles not required

circumcision = Jews were required by their faith

I can't speak for anyone else but I prefer to place my faith in Jesus. Don't get me wrong, I like Paul and believe his letters are important. However, without Jesus, Paul is just another pharisee named Saul.

Amen we follow Jesus, but "Paul's letters" are inspired by God and part of God's word so don't try just write them off.

Of course not. :) However, when people attempt to use Paul's letters to contradict something that Jesus Himself taught then I tend ignore their contradictions. NEVER should we attempt to interpret scripture in such a way that it contradicts itself. If that is the case then that interpretation is wrong thus they should rethink their conclusions, not make multiple extra-biblical excuses as to how and why their corrupt interpretation is supposedly right.

I agree, though pretty much all those people use verses out of context to do this which means we should ignore them anyways because they are twisting the bible like their father satan.

I agree, the bible is a unified whole, and we must look to our understanding when there are contradictions. However, we DO need to look at them. There were times when one of the 12 apostles did not understand, and Christ needed to teach them. In the same way, we need to check scripture of Paul to be sure it is in line with the teaching of Christ. If there is a difference, we need to work on it until we understand. Christ is God, Paul was not. Almost all of what Paul says agrees with Christ, and explains it. It is clearly God breathed. Differences need to be looked at prayerfully and carefully, this is our life!

I makes me wonder when I hear Christians say that they don't read the OT, they feel it is obsolete and not scripture for them. Or they are under grace, not law, and use that to explain their not including God in their day to day life. They never quote the gospels to explain their position, only Paul.

On Commandments and eternal life:
Paul says: Rom. 7:9 I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died; (10) the very commandment which promised life proved to be death to me.

Jesus says: Matt. 19:17 and he said to him, Why do you ask me about what is good? One there is who is good. If you would enter life, keep the commandments.

On your father:
Paul says: 1 Cor 4:15 For though you have countless guides in Christ, you do not have many fathers. For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel.

Jesus says: Matt 29:9 And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven.

On the Law and the Prophets:
Paul says: Rom. 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law, that every one who has faith may be justified.

Christ says: Matt 5:17 Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfill them. (18) For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished.

On unconditional election:
Paul says: Rom 9:16 So it depends not upon man’s will or exertion, but upon god’s mercy.

Christ says: Matt 7:21 Not every one who says to me, “Lord, Lord,” shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. (22) On that day many will say to me, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name? (23) And then will I declare to them, “I never knew you; depart from me, you evildoers.”

On how one becomes a child of God:
Paul says: Rom 8:23 and not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.
Gal. 4:5 to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.

Jesus says: John 3:3 Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again from above, he cannot see the Kingdom of God. (6) That which is begotten of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. (7) Do not marvel that I said to you, “You must be born again from above.”

I remember Paul addressing this issue, he warns people not to follow him.

10Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. 11For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. 12Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. 13Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul? 14I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius; 15Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name. 16And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other. 17For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

Paul's conversion was from the Lord Himself and then spent the next three years revealing Christ in him, teaching and training Paul for a commission to dispense the gospel of Christ (Gal 1:16-18, Eph 3:6-9). The words of scripture that Paul wrote was under the inspiration of the Spirit and not mere important letters for our consideration. I do not know how you view inspiration but it means God-breathed and it has the same authority as from the one who gave it. Do you somehow forget what Paul said in (1Cor 4:16, 11:1, Phil 3:17), be ye followers (or imitators) of me as I am of Christ. We have these as well; Acts 2:4, Eph 2:20, Heb 13:7, 2Tim 2:22, 2Thes 3:7,9. Remember what our Lord said to Saul on that Damascus road, 'Why do you persecute ME'. The Lord revealed His identity and oneness with His redeemed who were being persecuted (Acts 9:4). We also have (Mt 25:40).

Red, this is all true and needs to be brought out. Paul was given a commission to bring salvation to the gentiles, and along with it he was given inspiration and power. We are to listen to Paul. But if he got carried away, if he was not in line with God on an issue, we are to listen to God.

Remember in I Kings, chapter nineteen, when Elijah had brought fire from God when 400 false prophets couldn’t? Elijah was given a commission and power. He had used that power to bring on a terrible famine because the Hebrews were worshipping other Gods. God put a stop to the famine, even though all Elijah had done did not stop the Hebrew’s sin. Elijah had gone too far, bringing on too much punishment. Even Elijah was a human who could go too far. Elijah listened to God. Paul listens to God. But God is complete truth, even Paul and Elijah aren’t.

I like 1 Corinthians 3:4-7 ~ For when one says, “I am of Paul,” and another, “I am of Apollos,” are you not mere men? What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, even as the Lord gave opportunity to each one. I planted, Apollos watered, but God was causing the growth. So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth.

I just responded to another thread using chapter 1 of Corinthians.

Verses 10-17 say: "I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought. My brothers and sisters, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul”; another, “I follow Apollos”; another, “I follow Cephas”; still another, “I follow Christ.” Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul? I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, so no one can say that you were baptized in my name. (Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don’t remember if I baptized anyone else.) For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power"

Christ is the only one we can follow. I think the apostles would grieve at the thought of us placing more importance on them, since they themselves were just men and like us were also trying to walk in Jesus' footsteps, some of them backsliding occasionally. I can't seem to find the scripture, but one of the disciples (either Peter or Paul) boldly rebuked another for kneeling to him, for he was but a mere man. If anyone finds it, please let me know!! :)

We all know that if we are to follow Christ, our Shepherd, by taking up our cross (Mk 8:34, 10:21) and by hearing His voice (Jn 10:27). Where do you think that God has made available for believers to hear His voice? Is it in the local church where He assemblies His sheep to teach them through an under-shepherd, or are we to depend on Him in some remote place that we can be by ourself, just him and us and we can hear from Him? Hasn't God given gifts for the church that He might build us together as a habitation of God through the Spirit (Eph 4:10-16, 2:19-22). In the midst of the saints who are gathered together in His name, do we not comprehend the many dimensions of the love of God (Eph 3:14-19).

S of S 1:8 If thou know not, O thou fairest among women, go thy way forth by the footsteps of the flock, and feed thy kids beside the shepherds' tents.

What do we do with these scriptures that have been given unto us as part of the whole counsel of God, do we just ignore them or count them worthy of our attention? Do these passages of God's inspired word not apply to the present day believer or should we give more earnest heed lest they slip away from us?

1Pt 5:1-5 The elders (presbuteros) which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:
2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;
3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being examples to the flock.
4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.
5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

We can apply (1Cor 9) to any elder or pastor-teacher of the church today that has been called by God through grace to take oversight and to feed the flock of their local assembly of believers. Do we somehow try to ignore or forget what Paul said in (1Cor 4:16, 11:1, Phil 3:17), be ye followers (or imitators) of me as I am of Christ. We have these as well; Acts 2:4, Eph 2:20, Heb 13:7, 2Tim 2:22, 2Thes 3:7,9. These scriptures are there for our learning and instruction in righteousness (2Tim 3:16,17, Rom 15:4). How can we even apply these (Heb 2:1, 4:2) if we do not have a local assembly and recognize those that God has put OVER us as UNDER shepherds how will we ever be able to apply the following and how will they ever be accountable to what God has called them to do...

1Thes 5:12,13 And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;
13 And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves.

Heb 13:7 Remember (be ever mindful) them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.

(v.17) Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

(v.18) Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly.

(v.24) Salute (receive joyfully) all them that have the rule over you, and all the saints.

1Tim 5:17 Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.

Do you see any connection that we are to have with those that God has placed over us and the accountability that we have to remember them, know them, esteem them, obey and submit to what they preach and teach and to pray for them and follow their faith as they have received it from the Chief Shepherd, Christ?

Paul is totally in line with what Jesus taught.

It is just that there are some hard things which people twist to support doctrines which contradict Jesus.

Peter warned of this and even referred to Paul's writings as scripture.

2Pe 3:16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

Jesus did not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it.

Paul teaches that those who walk by a faith that works by love fulfill the righteousness requirements of the law.

The law is for the sinner as it points one to the righteousness of God. When we walk in the Spirit we are no longer under the law because a good tree with a good root will always fulfill righteousness.

This is how one exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and the Pharisees, via a faith which works by love, emanating from a pure heart wrought through walking in the Spirit of life with Jesus Christ.

This is all so true, but it isn’t working! So something more has to be understood about how God works, or it would be successful. In our churches we have too many who are not living in a Godly way.

Our members are hearing the word, trying to do what it says, still something is wrong.

A worldly way of reading what you say (and heaven help us, we ARE human) is to just read the bible, pray, have faith, and good will follow automatically. What comes to us automatically is often anything but what God wants for us. We need guidelines, law, order to help us. Paul was so against using law without the wonderful things you are speaking of that we can forget the obedience and order we need so desperately, besides it is what our Savior ordered for us.

7 But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter;
8 Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;
Colossians 1:25-27
25 Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;

Who does Paul say we (Gentiles) are to follow?

Samaritans = Were Gentiles

House of Israel = Jewish faith

uncircumcision = Gentiles not required

circumcision = Jews were required by their faith
Isn't the truth that you put Paul against the other apostles and claim that there be two different gospels, one for jews and one for gentiles (or i e different gospels for different people and times)? This is dispensational heresy. All the apostles preached one and the same gospel. Your concerns are unfounded.

I wish people would stop putting all dispensationalists in the same category, we do not all believe in different gospels for different people or groups.

I do agree though that there are not different gospels in different times or anything else. the gospel has been the same since adam, by faith.

I can go with that not all dispensationalists believe that there are two gospels. But I believe that this folly originated from some early dispensationalists (if this is incorrect, I will retract this statement). Anyway, just because gentiles are not required to live like jews (and vice versa) it does not mean that each has its "own" gospel.
