So, what can we learn from this...

Luk 17:28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;
Luk 17:29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.
Luk 17:30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

Good old Sodomy !!!! and Gomorrah... the world is so much worse now...!!

Zep 1:3 I will consume man and beast; I will consume the fowls of the heaven, and the fishes of the sea, and the stumblingblocks with the wicked; and I will cut off man from off the land, saith the LORD.

Zec 14:12 And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem ( spiritual..new); Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.

nuclear ???

a bit far from..baby Jesus meek and mild, do what you like he will let you run wild.....( fairy story religion )

1 ¶ This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof ( acts 2 v38 mark 16 v 16 + etc ): from such turn away.
6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

just a few....

You quoted Zech 14:12 and asked, "nuclear?", consider this...

Isa 33:14 The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?

And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully,
and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people.

Isa 15:5 My heart shall cry out for Moab; his fugitives shall flee unto Zoar, an heifer of three years old: for by the mounting up of Luhith with weeping shall they go it up; for in the way of Horonaim they shall raise up a cry of destruction.

Isa 16:14 But now the LORD hath spoken, saying, Within three years, as the years of an hireling, and the glory of Moab shall be contemned, with all that great multitude; and the remnant shall be very small and feeble.

Hmmm, 3 years? I thought the Tribulation/Day of the Lord is 3-1/2?

You are exactly correct but in common usage, we have come to call the entire 3-1/2 years the Tribulation. In actuality, the first 2-1/2 is the Time of Jacob's Trouble.

Therefore WATCH! For the most amaing time is the history of the world are here, both great blessing and terrible times.

Luke 21:28, "So when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; because your redemption draws near."

Mattithyah 24:21-22, "For then will be great tribulation, such as has not come to pass since the beginning of the world to this time--no, nor ever will be. And unless those days were shortened, there would no flesh be saved; but for the elect's sake, those days will be shortened."

Mattithyah 24:29-31, "Immediately, but after the tribulation of those days will the sun be darkened, and the moon will not give her light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven; and then will all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And He will send His malakim with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of earth to the other."

Matt 24:24-25, "For there will arise false messiahs and false prophets who will show great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they would deceive the very elect. Behold, I have warned you beforehand!"

2 Thess 2:6-12, "For the mystery of iniquity (secret initiation of lawlessness) is already working, but the One restraining him will continue to restrain him, until he is made to appear in the midst. And then that lawless one will be revealed, whom Yahshua will remove with the breath of His mouth, and make powerless with the appearance of His coming-- Whose coming is according to the energy of Satan, who works with all power, and signs, and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of sin in those who are perishing, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason, Yahweh will send them strong delusion, that they would believe the deception, In order that all those may be judged as not having believed the truth, but as having delighted in sin."

young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams.

18Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
and they will prophesy.

19I will show wonders in the heavens above
and signs on the earth below,
blood and fire and billows of smoke.

20The sun will be turned to darkness
and the moon to blood

before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.

Is this scripture referring to the return of Christ, or is it referring to the flight of God's people to a Place of Safety?

But Lot didn't make it (Ge 19:18-20) to the place of safety in the mountains (Ge 19:15-17),
he was kept safe in the plain, the sphere of danger, by a special providence of God (Ge 19:21-22).

Lk 17 is not about fleeing to the place of safety, which Lot did not, it's about the second coming of Christ.

Actually, he did. He bargained with God for the city of Zoar instead and God agreed...

Gen 19:17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.
Gen 19:18 And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my Lord:
Gen 19:19 Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die:
Gen 19:20 Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.
Gen 19:21 And he said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken.
Gen 19:22 Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do any thing till thou be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.

Are you sure of that?

Luk 17:31 In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back.

So, if you are on the rooftop of your house and you see Christ returning, would you run down the ladder and into your house, grab your suitcase and your toothbrush and maybe even a change of underwear, run back outside and say "Here I am Lord, ready to be made a spirit being." Or maybe, would you run down the ladder and into your house and grab a change of undies and your toothbrush if you were going somewhere for 3-1/2 years to wait on the return of Christ?

oddly, the strange comfort (Peace in Yahshua Hamashiach) is that no one knows what they are talking about.

To me v. 31 says stand up and look above, don't be running to get your stuff, for your redemption is at hand (v. 28).

LOL... NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING as far as worldly possessions will have my attention when He returns. All that stuff gets left behind, because my treasure is with Him, not here.

Exactly, that is why verse 31 is not about the return of Christ. Consider this...

Rev 6:14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.
Rev 6:15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;
Rev 6:16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:
Rev 6:17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

Luk 21:25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
Luk 21:26 Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.
Luk 21:27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

At the Heavenly Signs, men will not be too concerned about their housewares and wardrobes. I don't think people will be running into their houses to grab their stuff.

For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken,
and the houses rifled, and the women ravished;

and half of the city shall go forth into captivity,
and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.
