Shelly, please consider the following verses. In one it says that if we are born of God we do not commit sin, yet in the next it says that if we do sin, we have an advocate, and in the last it says that if we say we do not sin we are liars. They are all written by the same author, and in the same book. I agree that they sound contradictory, but they are not.
1Jn 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
1Jn 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
1Jn 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
1Jn 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
1Jn 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1Jn 1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
In the original, they refer to WILLFUL sin as opposed to MISTAKES. to make it simple. If you willfully sin after receiving knowledge of the Truth, you've heard about being turned over to a reprobate mind, but this isn't concerned with mistakes, but with actually turning against God on purpose. If you are even concerned about it in the least, you haven't done that! In your case, you made a mistake, that's all, and as John said, He understands, and you have an advocate. You don't need an altar call or a repentance prayer. Just be sorry and tell Him that! If you said you never sinned since you became a Christian, you would be a liar, and make the bible a liar, too. You did what he allowed you to do, and had planned for you to do to learn some lesson or other. So apologize, thank Him for showing you what you did, ask Him to help you learn, and go on your way rejoicing that He loved you enough to show you something.
And claim THIS verse for yourself
Pro 24:16 For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.
(A just, born again person will fall 7 times, which is God's number of a completed work, and rise again, or your'e bound to blow it until you finally get it, then finally rise above it once and for all) See what I mean? He loves you enough to let you do it and see what you did in order that you and He could take care of it together. THAT'S LOVE!
Let me know if there's any way I can help,
