The bible is a selfless book to guide you away from making foolish mistakes. The Scripture you gave are not bad advice, but advice to protect your life. Jesus knows your heart and He knows how the human desires can hurt our walk with Him. Christians are to live a life against the grain of the world.

Matthew 6:34 If you read scriptures before that one you will see that the Lord is talking about worrying. He is saying not to worry about being provided for. He knows our needs and will care for us so we don't need to worry. We need to depend on Him for everything. We also need to seek Him first before anything else in our lives.

Matthew 6:19-20 Jesus does not want us to be greedy with or hoard money. Being rich is not a sin, however it can hurt you if you don't know how to manage it. Everything on this earth will perish , however stored treasures in heaven will be for eternity. There are not theives in heaven.

Mark 10:21-25 Jesus has no problem with those that are wealthy, however this particular man had a problem with wealth and was greedy. Jesus wanted to free him of his wealth and save his soul. THe money was an obstacle for this man and kept him from Jesus, so jesus wanted to rid him of this oblstacle and follow him.

Luke12:33 This is about wealthy believers that need to remember to give to those in need. Our treasures are in heaven and are eternal. We need to be good stewards of God's money, and not depend on it but on the Lord.

John 6:27 This is not talking about pysical food it talking about spiritual food. Spiritual food, which is God's word last for eternity and pysical food rots. Jesus feed us His word to nourish our Spirit.

Matthew 5:28 This is about the Married man and lust. We need to practice self-control in this area of our lives.

Matthew 5:32 Again this is about the married believer, who chooses to disobey God's commands concerning marriage. God set a standard in which to live by. We suffer the consequences of our sin if we choose not to.

Matthew 5:11 We are not looking to be persecuted. We are blessed when we are persecuted. Christians don't walk around lookin for trouble, we are to bring peace.

Matthew 5:13-14 Salt in Israel came from the Dead Sea and it was full of impurities which removed it's flavor. We as Christians need to perserve God's word in our hearts and lives so it does not loose it's meaning. We are the light which brings God's word to those in darkness. We give God the glory for everything. It is not about us as Christians it is about God.

Luke 14:26 The greatest commandment that God gave us is to love each other, so why would he tell us to hate our families. He is simply saying to love Him first and above all even above ourselves. Your family can't get you to heaven.

Luke 19:23-26 When you seed Spiritual gain and not selfish ambition, the lord will add on to your riches. Those who squander what the Lord gives them loses what He gives.

Luke 6:30 This is about loving your enemies who when they ask for something because you are to treat people as you want to be treated you need to give. KBy doing so you may win over and unbeliever who because of you kindness may receive the Lord. kThis is not aabout stealing. Some people are not capable of giving back .

Matthew 5:39 This sort of slap was more of an insult than an act of violance. It is saying it is better to take an insult twice than to go to court. As Christians we are not to sue anyone. We are to go before God not a judge.

Matthew 5:40 The Lord will replace what ever you give. I someone wants you under garment ,give him the outer one as well.

Matthew 5:41 The Roman forced Simon to carry the Cross for Jesus. We need to go the extra mile for the Lord.

Matthew 5:42 If the poor need something you have it , we are to give it to them. Rich people useually don't ask for things as poor people do.

Matthew 5:29-30 This is talking about sin. Do whatever it takes to get rid of sin in your life. It does not mean to literally cut it off.
Matthew 19:12 This is about God's gifts and service. If you can't practice self-control concerning sex, then it is better to marry than allow the enemy to tempt you into sexual immorality ,which deters you from God's service.

Thanks for this wonderful bible study. This is all advice from Jesus!!! Terminator

The Luke 6 verse 30 really helpful, NoNickname. I hadn't looked at it that way. I had thought it mean those who aren't poor and thus who can give back but of course if someone was destitiute then they couldn't. Thanks for this. :)

nah Blain, no one is getting angry anymore so he won't respond until he find someone he can poke at,

or until he can dig up more "questions" to start a new thread and see who fall into the hole.

However, I would be delighted if he proves my assessment of him wrong.

Well this was a poor attempt at discrediting the teachings of Jesus.

1. Don't make any plans for the future (Matthew 6:34)

This actually says:

" Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow with worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of it's own."

If you weren't just cherry picking and actually read that entire chapter, actually just the first few verses before it, you would see that Jesus Christ is talking about relying on Father because Father will proved the physical essentials. Jesus is saying that we should focus on seeking his kingdom, and righteousness, and Father will provide what he knows we need.

Not sure where you pulled out " Don't make any plans for the future," but just from basic reading skills, the context you've derived is mistaken. Jesus said DO NOT WORRY about tomorrow, as in don't focus on the secular things, and Father will provide the necessities as food, water, and clothing for his children. Which he does incredibly well.

The Bible references how we should be more concerned with the food that last forever, than the physical food that spoils; meaning, the concern of one should be more about obtaining spiritual salvation then getting caught up in the world. Father will provide those necessary things; you just need to have faith.

2. Don't save any money (Matthew 6:19-20)

LOL your mind is very secular I see.

Treasures on earth does refer to wealth and physical luxuries as those - but when you die, your wealth does not go with you. This verse is in no way saying not to save money, but rather if you are controlled by the desire of wealth, and your primary focus is gaining on the physical earth.

These physical things will burn in fire; they cannot come with you to Heaven, and the greed is of no use to you at all. What is important is the treasures you store up in heaven; life on earth is incredibly short - how much more the treasures of heaven that last forever?

It's a parable Jesus spoke because people constantly chase after money, or focus their minds on the perishable things of the Earth, when really their true reward is that in Heaven.

3. Don't become wealthy (Mark 10:21, 25)

Actually, there are a fair amount of wealthy people who are currently obtaining salvation. Why this particular rich young man could not adhere to Christ, was because he cared more for his wealth and luxuries than following Christ. How many of us if God stood before us and said, " Give up all you have and walk with me," would give up everything and do it?

God's people would happily give everything up, because being with God and walking with Christ is far more important than anything splendid on this Earth. Those materials really are unnecessary; you cannot enjoy your luxurious lifestyle in death, so what are those items of any use to you?

4. Sell everything you have and give it to the poor (Luke 12:33)

Same thing as when Jesus explained how Father will provide what we need to thrive. As far as selling your things and giving to the poor - Jesus was talking to his disciples whom were so eager to follow Christ that they were willing to give up all their possessions. The mind of the disciples were so faithful to God, that mere objects, perishable things mattered not to them compared to following their God faithfully. It is a good mind to have.

Since the world feeds us with all the propaganda - it makes us believe that material objects can appease us, and many find their fulfillment in needless, useless, and very perishable material things. God's teachings are opposite, because the truth is that these objects are not going to get you to salvation. They are incredibly useless and at times even obstacles against coming to God. Because your mind is so worldly, this request from Jesus seems so unfathomable. But really, if you have no mind to give up anything for God, or just for the sake of giving to the poor, who's mentality is really at fault here?

You are secular in mind, and do not know your Father.

5. Don't work to obtain food, such as meat, because it doesn't last forever (John 6:27)

I explained this parable above in the other poorly understood statement you made; food that spoils is talking about the perishable things of the earth, many devote their lives to obtaining, and come to fulfill themselves with. These things are wealth, big houses, luxuries etc - needless objects that seem so glorious on the earth, but really amount to nothing spiritually.

Your million dollar mansion cannot give you salvation; your wealth means nothing, and so easily can it be destroyed. The non - perishable things of heaven endure forever.

It is pretty foolish to cling to temporary things, when God has offered permanent ones that are truly fulfilling and will never be taken away. There non - perishable things are beyond just luxuries given in Heaven, but it is the very conditioning of our souls and how Father blesses us and changes us that is a reward unlike any other.

6. Don't have sexual urges (Matthew 5:28)

There is a difference between sexual urges, and lusting after another.

Sexual urges are due to hormones in the body - naturally occurring, however, one has the choice to act on these urges or not, that is lusting after others or indulging in sexual immorality.

Your mind is under your control; if you can make the decision to lust, you can make the decision not to.

7. Marrying a divorced woman is committing adultery (Matthew 5:32)

Marriage is incredibly sacred in the Bible, and if according to God's word it is adultery, then it is adultery.

Perhaps this is why people should take more care in whom they marry, whom they partner with; the world teaches against marriage, praising lust and adultery.

I do not find this teaching strict; I find it necessary because just seeing how the world is functioning without it's values on marriage; divorce rates are sky hight, infidelity is rampant, and the younger generation has little to no hope in respects to love and finding partners of true value.

Is this truly the life we desire to live? Infidelity, std's being spread around, unwanted pregnancies, rise in abortions, teen pregnancies, belittlement of others due to sexual endeavors, insecurity, disconnection - the list goes on and on. Love has become a soiled thing.

8. Act in such a way that people will want to persecute you (Matthew 5:11)

Wow.

People persecute those who truly believe in God, which is why Jesus says, " falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of ME."

Could you please read the verses before responding in such a poor way?

9. Let everyone know that you are special and better than the rest (Matthew 5:13-14)

Light = the words of God in the Bible. The world is a dark place because it refuses the words of God, so those whom have it are referred to as having a lamp or some type of vessel of light. This has nothing to do with being better than anyone else, as it does to spread the words of God and bring light in to the world.

10. Hate your family (Luke 14:26)

I can understand this interpretation; Jesus Christ actually talks about the distress caused in the physical family, for those who faithfully follow the truth of God. The truth is God is not easily accepted, and even those whom may be your physical family may come to persecute you who has the truth, or even hand you over to die which was the case in these times. Jesus Christ says that those who follow the commands of God are his true family; a lot of people don't want to here this, but your physically family may not be for God, and thus will cause a conflict within it.

11. Take money from those who have no savings and give it to rich investors (Luke 19:23-26)

This is a parable; I'm not fully certain of it's meaning, so I won't speak on it arrogantly.

12. If someone steals from you, don't try to get it back (Luke 6:30)

I like how you ignored the teaching where he says " give to everyone who ask of you," and only focused on this part to try and demonize Jesus's teachings. If your going to bash the Christ, you better NOT leave anything out. If your so haughty to speak against God, you better speak against all his teachings, and if you do so here, you admit not to be generous as this was one of Christ's teachings.

It is just a material thing; if it is taken, it is taken. If God says not to go after it, then let it go.

13. If someone hits you, invite them to do it again - encourage violence (Matthew 5:39)

This is in regard to being non - violent actually. What good is it to strike another? Here it is emphasized that this person is evil as well, so in attacking back, it's actually just as bad as the evil person having struck first. You cannot encourage violence by not fighting back; if anything this does the opposite because the person cannot coax you into violence. An aggressor will get more violent in response to one fighting back.

14. If you lose a lawsuit, give more than the judgment (Matthew 5:40)

So you give the person a little more for whatever you've done against them that resulted in them suing you. Often if your being sued, it's because your the one at fault. Give what is owed to that person, and a little more to make ammends. This is not a difficult teaching; why do you insist on it as bad?

15. If someone forces you to walk a mile, walk two miles (Matthew 5:41)

This has to do with having a meek mind and patience. Besides, walking is good for your health :p

16. If anyone asks you for anything, give it to them without question (Matthew 5:42)

So being generous is a bad teaching? Wow you really didn't read these over before you posted them did you?

17. If you do something wrong with your hand, cut it off, and if you do something
wrong with your eye, pluck it out (Matthew 5:29-30)

Lol not literally - this is a parable talking about how to avoid intentionally sinning by what may make you weak in your resistance. Example, I had an issue with drinking which according to the Bible is not okay, so even though I really wanted to drink, I cut myself off from it altogether. Instead of just having a little here and there and tempting myself. Cut yourself off. If something is causing you to sin ( Jesus uses limbs as a physical example in respects to hell,) he does this because the spiritual reality is that it is better for you to lose what causes you to sin, even if it brings you great pleasure, then to hold onto it and be condemned for it.

18. If you are a man, then a good way to make points with "the Kingdom" is to
avoid women (Matthew 19:12)

Um, you do realize this states that it's better not to marry for both men and women right? The Bible has no teachings against marriage, it just expresses that if one does not marry, it isn't a bad thing, as some people gave it up to keep themselves focused on going to heaven.

_

Overall, this perspective, I don't know if you copy or pasted from internet somewhere, or took the time to write these out, but your concept of Jesus's teachings are very flawed. Literally, if you actually read the section instead of cherry picking verses and trying to twist and bend their meaning to demonize God, you will see that contextually you are very off. Just basic reading into these very passages exposes a different meaning that what you have concluded here.

Please, before you post about the Bible, why not read it first to make sure you aren't just blowing out a bunch of hot air.

If you do not believe in God, your purpose in trying to pervert the gospel of Christ is futile.

Father's words are accurate - and for you to go against the words of God with clear misunderstanding, exposes a fair amount of ignorance on your part.

I apologize for any offense, but if your going to slander my God, do it with knowledge.

This is all advice from Jesus
I have never seen 1 bad advise in the Bible. You are completely out of context and do not understand scriptures.
It is you whose mind is bad because you seem to make yourself greater than Jesus by accusing Him to give bad advise in His sermons.
If you don't understand, please don't try to criticize Jesus Christ sermons.

Is this good advice?

Exodus 21:20-21 And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he die under his hand; he shall be surely punished. Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished: for he is his money.

All the replies are saying that I'm misinterpreting, misunderstanding, or misreading the Bible.

Now you know how I and other people that use the scientific method feel when religious people start using
"creation" science (which isn't real science) and start babbling about how evolution isn't true.

The bottom line is just because there is a bible doesn't mean there is a god. One must first demonstrate that
there is a god then we can move on to which religious texts are valid, if any. Otherwise all of this is merely
speculation.

For those of you who think there are no bible contradictions I'll be happy to start posting those if you like?

And most importantly I want to let you know I'm not here to start trouble. I do seek the truth but right now
we may have different opinions on what the truth is. Just because we disagree doesn't mean we can't be
friends. Perhaps we will all learn something new from this debate. Thanks

Actually if people think God will bless them if they are mocked and persecuted then they
may want to act in such a way that results in that behavior. Who doesn't want God's blessing,
right? You're interpreting it one way and I see it another. Maybe it was a mistake to use
text to communicate God's word?
That's a circular point.

IF people are already God's followers, and by their actions (which should be of love, and patience, and kindness, and humility, restraint and compassion) people then mock them, then of course they should still continue to act in compassion and patience, humility and love, kindness and restraint. And yes, people probably will continue to mock them. But they will be blessed by God for that.

The greek is;

Something like; 'You have my favor when people disgrace, insult, wrongly-pursue and speak misleading malice about you on account of me.

It's God saying 'when people speak bad things and do bad things to you because you follow me, I'll have favour for you'.

And a good example is when a person is being kind and considerate, and someone mocks them for being that way, then the mocker ends up looking like the bad, immoral person. God favours the one who has patience and restraint and compassion in more ways than one.

That's your belief and you're entitled to it.

I personally believe there hs to be a God. that's fine with you, I hope?

I read the scripts and try to see the message rather than the literal. Hebrew and Greek, particularly in accordance with word about God, is intensely hyperbolic and figurative. There is a lot of idiom, so a lot of people get it wrong.

We all have our views, though. feel free to PM me and I'll talk with you if you like.

One thing I might ask you to consider;

If you don't believe that there is a God, then won't reading the scripts all become about 'physicality' and evidence of that kind of logic, rather than about 'philosophy' and what applies to the way in which a theological person views the world.

Your view is very literal and 'hard evidence' whereas mine is very philosophical and about moral and social cause and effect.

Also, you must all realize the bible was voted to be the word of god by a group of men
in the 4th century - The Council of Nicaea. Some writings were kept some were thrown
out. And chances are you aren't reading the actual words of the authors due to so many
translations. We don't have the originals or copies of the originals, etc.

Can I also ask you to consider the bible's account of the creation as a statement of God's power and of the tender planning and consideration that was taken to the creation of this beautiful planet over a period of time, rather than a literal transcription of how man came to be, day by day? Because the translation differences and implications of the Genesis account of creation are really wide and varied.

I myself take the stance that the hebrew expression for 'day' can actually mean 'period of time'. I'm not going to spend all day refuting evolution because honestly I think it's actually quite a feasible explanation for how man came to be created over time. I think of it as 'refinement towards conscious thought'.

I believe we are all ultimately on a journey of refinement towards God anyway, both in our mortal lives, here and now, and in eternity after this life in Gehinom, or Gan Eden for the righteous.

The Jews believed it (and lots still do), and after all, Jesus was a Jew. So it stands to reason Jesus believed it and referenced to the same concepts as the Jews believed in.
