In the chapter surrounding 'being born of water and the Spirit' you will see Jesus initially talking about -

Water of the WOMB-- and then being born of the Spirit LATER.

John 3:16-- is about being born again.. and has no water baptism
Romans 10:9-10-- is about being born again.. and has no water baptism
Ephesians 2:8-9-- does not mention water baptism
John 5:24-- no water baptism

Also the record of people in the bible is they believe first.. and then are indwelled by the Holy Spirit for eternal salvation.

Water baptism does look like it is happening at the same time-- and that is because in biblical times-- the record is that most people got baptised by water baptism, full immersion .. STRAIGHT AFTER believing on Jesus Christ.

So the John 3 verse with Jesus speaking to Nicodemus..

Nicodemus' question was how can a man enter a second time into his mother's womb? Jesus did not change the subject to water baptism but just said to be born of water AND the Spirit.

Following Nicodemus' question -- he was meaning water of the womb.. so Jesus would then be meaning the same thing.

So being born again-- is believing in Jesus-- and then that person is sealed with the Holy Spirit.

Full immersion water baptism comes after that. In biblical times.. it was most of the time done straight away after that.

So... water baptism isn't part of receiving eternal life.

JESUS said that flesh Is flesh and spirit Is spirit so how do you wash the spirit with natural water?

First make the Inside clean and only GOD can do this.

Hello I believe that born again from water means baptism .How you think?

Being born again has nothing to do with water baptism. Being born again means that you believe in Jesus Christ, that he died for your sins and that you accept him as your Lord and Savior.. :)

Yes! And you are a new creation in Christ, with His Spirit now active in you. You are not just a human being having been born through the waters and blood of your mother. You are born again in the Spirit.

How can one be born again of a fluid that will die. The spirit will never die. Be born of the spirit. Water will just get you wet.

Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”[SUP][c][/SUP] [SUP]39 [/SUP]By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified John 7:38&39

Ye MUST be born again John 3:3
The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit John 3:8

You are born again of the Holy Spirit, not water baptism

But what about this?

Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

water baptism , was a sign, when people took animals, to the temple for forgiveness.(for the jewish people at that time in history). etc

some miss this fact , yet by knowing the full history, you can see, how god worked, first to the jewish, the to the gentile. etc

To be born of water even of the Spirit has in mind the teachings of the prophets in Isaiah 32.15; 44.1-5; 55.10-13; Ezek 36 24ff. The water points to the rain which comes down from Heaven and gives life to the earth. In the same way Christ 'drenches' (baptizo) us in the Spirit.

John's baptism had the same picture in mind, but looking forward to future fulfilment. I drench you in water, He will drench you in the Holy Spirit. The consequence of this is that this water will flow out from us to others like refreshing rain (John 8.37-39). The Spirit is also likened to water in John 4.10-14.

Indeed Is 55.10-13 speaks of the 'new birth'. Literally it says in v 10, 'waters the earth and makes it 'bring to birth' (in this form in Hebrew only ever used of human birth) and bud'. Thus water and bringing to birth are linked in pictorial image.

The only water baptism known in John 3 was John's baptism. John's baptism is never said to produce new life.

There is no Scriptural warrant for saying that baptism 'cleanses'. Cleansing in the OT was never by water unless it was water containing sacrificial ashes.

i think that if you have put your trust in Jesus the Christ to redeem you from sin,
then you should be baptized in H[SUB]2[/SUB]O as soon as you can,
to show everyone that you have already been born again.

when a baby is born, the doctor washes him or her soon afterwards -- but not before :)

John was not speaking of Temple ritual. He was rejecting it. He was offering real forgiveness from God to a repentant people.

Born of water and Spirit
Jesus used analogies from the natural realm to help us understand the realities of the spiritual realm. In the natural realm the child is begotten by the father and conceived by the mother. In the spiritual realm one is begotten by God when they receive Jesus Christ by believing in His name. The individual is given the right to become a child of God; the word of God is implanted in his heart. One becomes a child of God by faith through being baptized into Christ.
One must be born again to enter the kingdom of God. (John 3: 3) But what does it mean? To be born again is to be born again spiritually which is accomplished by being born of both water and Spirit. (John 3: 5) In the natural realm a birth is a coming forth from the mother’s womb; in the spiritual realm the new birth is a coming forth from both water and Spirit. IMO this implies immersion in both water and Spirit. In the Scriptures we find that baptism in the name of Christ, in water, was appointed by our Lord for all the nations and in addition, we find that our Lord baptizes with the Holy Spirit. God bless.
