Question: Is it Biblical to be prepared for a disaster?

There was a discussion in the Chat room about being prepared a major disaster. Some were saying they prepare by storing food and/or guns and ammo. Other's were saying they do not need to prepare because they believe that God will provide for them when it comes. And that they do not want to try and survive if it was the end of times.

What do you believe and why?

Wings,

There is an old Arabic saying tht goes like this "Trust in God but tie up your camel."

There is nothing wrong with being prepared for a disaster. I live in California, about 20 miles from the San Andreas fault. I have 330 gallons of chlorinated water stored. I also have minimal food supplies in reserve. I trust God to provide but I believe He gave me a brain with the intention for me to use it. It does not show a lack of faith, jut a prudent awareness.

I do not have weapons of any kind. That I draw the line at.

In Christ,
John

Good post John.
I believe tha God will provide for all your needs. But some he will put the task to prepare upon their heart.
I have always diserned with if I act in fear, then it is of me, in confidence, the Lord.
God bless, pickles

Question: Is it Biblical to be prepared for a disaster?
It seems like common sense that God wants us prepared, but there are examples of people demonstrating a lack of faith by making common sense preparations. As a ruler, for instance, knowing the number of people you rule and your battle readiness is the least you can do. In 1 Chronicles 21, David orders a census of his people against God's will so that he can feel more secure, but his nephew reminds him not to, saying:

May the Lord multiply <the king's> troops a hundred times over.
In other words, God will provide however many you will need, so why are you so concerned with a census? Sure, it's the most responsible thing an earthly leader can do, but please don't or you'll ruin us all. In the end, 70,000 men died because David wanted to be prepared.

So, is it Biblical to be prepared? If you read what I wrote above, you might think not, but I have a question in response: why are we only talking about material preparation? If we confuse preparation with stocking up on food, guns, and ammo, then we really haven't begun to prepare in the best way. In Mark 13, talking about the coming persecution, Jesus says:

You must be on your guard.

Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come.

Therefore keep watch.
Do we think he was talking about just food or weapons?

hey wings,

well, obviously they were talking about end times as you said at the end, there.

I met a guy the other day who said he believed we would be raptured before all the terrible things hit. but then he told me he had a 7 year supply of water with the stuff to purify it, guns ammo, all like you said they were talking. or some of them.

the Bible says over and over that the true believer will be spared from God's wrath. I believe this because of the scriptures in 1st Thes. 4:13-18.
. this is the rapture to come and save us from God's wrath. I believe this therefore I do not store up anything for this time.

Totaly agree,
If God intended me harm, are they removers of His harm; or if He intended me mercy, are they withholders of His mercy?" Say, "Sufficient for me is God ; upon Him [alone] rely the [wise] reliers.

If you have proper and sincere reliance on God. He will grant you provision like the birds are given provision, they come out of their nests in the morning with empty stomachs and return to their nests in the evening with a full stomach

And whoever places his trust in God, God is sufficient for him. Indeed, God will accomplish His purpose. God has already set for everything a [decreed] extent.

Peace be upon you,

I believe that it is OK actualy GREAT to prepare. I dont know what you believe exactly, But I believe the end is very near, all the signs of the end times are here and it will come in a blink of an eye.

I suppose it also depends on what you believe will happen, see I dont believe in a rapture. My familys beliefs are that while God is pouring his wrath upon the non-believers we will have to fight for our lives, yes God WILL protect us and he WILL multiply our pocessions, but it also cleary states that Christians will be persicuted. SATAN and his follorwers will be out to kill and destory every believer. Then afterwards, those christians who are still inhabbiting the earth will live for the thousand year rein, were if you dont know, is 1000 years that satan will be bound and Christ will walk amoung us. So I dont believe that I will poof up into heavan, I believe I will suffer trials, tribulations and persicution, but my great mighty and merciful lord will bless me as I fight for him. If you feel you have a call on your life to prepare...then DO SO. Pray about your decision and make sure its what God wants.

A few verses that I feel are appropriate:

"The righteous will never be removed, but the wicked will not inhabit the earth. The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom. But the preverse tounge will be cut out." -Proverbs 10:30

"The Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your soul in drought, and strengthen your bones: You shall be like a waterd garden and like a spring of water whose waters do not fail." - Isaiah 58:11

"Then I said "Lord How long", and he anwsered, "Until the cities are laid waste and without inhabitant, the houses are without a man, the land is utterly desolate, The Lord has removed men far away, and the forsaken places are many in the midst of the land., but yet a tenth will be in it., and will return and be for consuming as a terebinth three or as an oak whose stump remains when it is cut down. So the holdy seed shall be its stump." - Isaiah6:11-13

"Behold, I come like a thief! Blessed is he who stays awake and keeps his clothes with him, so that he may not go naked and be shamefully exsposed." -Revelation 16:15

"And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony for Jesus and because of the word of God. they had not worshiped the beast or his image and had not received his mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years." -Revelation 20:4

I hope you pray and take to heart what is coming, and do prepare yourself, but remember, that God will always be with you!

God Bless!
