Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Matt 5:5 RSV

I suspect one of Satan’s fondest pastimes is flattering us. Those of us who are prideful get exaggerated feelings about our importance and go around making everyone else feel miserable. I imagine Satan enjoys this activity immensely.

So how do we know when we are being flattered, and how do we know when we are flattering ourselves?

This is one of the things I tend to worry about. I believe it is good to encourage each other in Jesus.
But I fear pride so much. I am trusting that Our Lord Jesus will keep me in line.
But when you live much of your life wondering if you can be loved ,pride can be your enemy.
I shy away from complaments, not because of them, but I fear my own weakness.
I am so greatfull that Jesus is healing my fears.
But ultimatly, it is giving praise to Our Lord Jesus for all things that is our safety and salvation.

Me, Me, Me, I can answer this one!!! Finally, a question that I can answer, Me, Me, Me, I can do it. Are you getting it. I am GOOD at this one.

Just an example of flattery and vanity. I tend to be very prideful and vain and spoiled. I dont know why, well actually I do - SIN. But I do know that I try very hard to pray for a servants heart, and humility. Its my #1 sin. Not that any one sin is worse then another. But its the sin I think I commit the most, or at least worry about committing the most. Even when I do good things and people dont know that I did them. I am happy because then God can get the glory but SECRETLY I am sad that noone knows I did it. Do you see? Now you know why I worry so much about pride and vanity. Sometimes I get scared that I will NEVER stop being vain, even if it is only on the inside. So I ask you to pray for me for this issue.

Yes it is the quiet enemy and I will be glad to pray for you every day. I am already thanking God for your prayers and adding a prayer for your son. I will just add in one for our mutual enemy - vanity and pride.

Love ya,

Debbie

As I was reading through the threads, I realized that we never answered your questions. The truth is, I dont really know. Because I am a prideful person, I think ANYTIME that I feel flattered is a danger sign that I am not giving Glory to God. But I am not a go around making others miserable type of person, so I dont know that I get those types of feelings. I am more of a sit back and let others notice my wonderfulness type of person (which is just as bad).

I would say that whenever you are feeling really good about something you have done, and the thought of God doesnt even enter your mind, you might be in trouble. I am not saying you should not feel good about yourself and the good things you do. Just that you might want to make sure that GOD is in there somewhere.

I have found that when what I seek is not for the glory of Our Lord God Our Father.
If that which I look for does not serve God.
If I am easly offended in myself
These things tell me its of self flattery.
But if all is to the glory od God.
If all serves God Our Fathers perpose.
If it does not matter what any other says or thinks as long as all is in Gods will.

Test of humility(meekness)? The desire to post a comment even when you have nothing productive to say--but want to make sure everyone knows that you know alot.

Better to just say amen rather than try to say what the last poster said only better, or so you think.
