I decided to read the Bible starting from the beginning, and I am now in the Book of Jeremiah chapter 34.. One of the things that confuses me when I am reading some books, is I don't know if they're talking about things from the past or are they talking about things for these latter days? I am a fairly new Christian I accepted Christ in 2012. And I noticed now that I'm reading Jeremiah I am really confused. Also when they are talking about Israel Judah Jacob are they a representation or literal.... know that's probably a silly question but I am pretty lost.

The book of Jeremiah is primarily written to Judah and Benjamin which comprised the Southern Kingdom of Judah.....it contains the woes which are prophetic in nature and directed at the nations aound Israel and some of the nations in the world......the 25th chapter (last part) contains the nations which will endure the wrath of God.....it also predicts the fall of Judah by the Babylonians and when you get done go read Lamentations which was written by Jeremiah after the fall of Judah....very graphic book containing the end result of the judgment of God!

FruitfulEden,

Hi neighbor, I'm in Falls City, about 8mi SW of Dallas and about 9 mi W of Monmouth.

Welcome to CC.

Don't feel like you are alone in your confusion. Both Isaiah and Jeremiah tend to speak of multiple time periods in the same chapter and sometimes in the same verse. I believe that this is true because neither prophet fully understood the inspired word which he was given; but both faithfully recorded it anyway.

I grew up in a Jewish home; and acquired a strong background in the Hebrew language in Synagogue school.

If you have specific questions I will be pleased to try to be helpful.
