I believe it does say somewhere in the New Testament that you can be tainted by someone else's sin. Any thoughts on this and how to get out of this situation?

Ephesians 5:7Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
2Cor6:14Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?
1Cor7:14For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.

Damonbombs' got most of it. There is also a case of fallout, or side effects. Like if someone gets drunk and runs you over in his car. Or your spouse does adultery, and leaves you, and you get left alone. You did nothing to earn that. That's what Rom. 8:28 is for. Just trust God, because He would not let that happen unless He had an answer. Sometimes it just takes a while to see the grace operate.

I agree with this.
If you are in a situation where you are the only Christian or maybe the only one acting like one... You have to be careful that you are Affecting others rather than letting others Infect you.

One should be careful who they associate with, but other than that, I don't know if there is anything to worry about.

if you are being corrupted... as in making allowances for the sin of others... you should seperate yourself from them. the truth of the matter is that sometimes it is very neccesary to separate yourself from many people who have negative influence on you spiritually so that you can grow and be strengthened without the pressure of old habits and to comprimise... later you may reintroduce these people into your life or you may discover you no longer want them there.

If you had nothing to do with the commssion of the sin, there's two ways you can still be burdened by someone else's sin. First is thru a generational (family) spirit, the sins of the father passing down to his generations; the second is thru the sins of a spousal partner, the two being one if one is afflicted the two is too. You can put a leash on them thru daily prayer, but to really get rid of them takes fasting, prayer, and intercession.

Is that why you have not spoken to me lately and do you think I am responsible for the sins of another?

Oh, no! Not at all!

Quite sincerely, I haven't done too much here in the Bible Study forum recently...
the holidays, and Mark being at home have (joyfully) taken up a lot of time. :)

But he goes back to work on Wednesday, so you can expect me to be my usual obnoxious self after that.

My two youngest are going to their married sister's house for the rest of the week, and I'll have no one to talk to but the cats. Hope I don't start writing them little notes...
hehe

Just mine Red. You're only responsible for my sinfulness :D The truthful answer is no Red. You were not in my mind whatsoever when I posted that verse, as God is my witness. I simply contributed a verse from God's Word that applies to all of us. Happy New Year, btw :)

*chews nails and tries to figure a way for someone else to be responsible for my own sins*

Oh, wait!
There IS Someone who will be responsible for those wretched deeds of mine! :)

1 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.
3 For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh,
4 so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. (Romans 8)

Now I can start this New Year off without any unnecessary burdens to drag around. lol
HNY to you also, but if you keep on believing like an amillennialist your going to get a pleasant surprise when you are raised up into those clouds with the other members of Christ body, never having to face the terrible tribulation coming upon the earth. You can celebrate this new year with that great expectation that only the Lord could deliver as promised. You need to get converted and may you have no rest until you do. (not the physical rest that is much needed).

you can't be tainted by someone else's sin but you can be cleansed and sanctified by someone else's righteousness.

people have posted a verse that says that the believing wife or husband will sanctify the unbelieving husband or wife and that the children shall be clean but not the other way around. at the same time Jesus cleansed us of our sins but our sins did not defile Jesus.

therefore what situation do you believe yourself in?

bad company corrupts not because their sin rubs off on you but because their bad habits causes you to commit your own sin and that is why it is advised for you to avoid bad company when possible.

I believe it does say somewhere in the New Testament that you can be tainted by someone else's sin.

#1) If you are referring to fellowship as in who you keep company with in the world or in church:

1 Corinthians 5:9 I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators: 10 Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world. 11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolator, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat. 12 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within? 13 But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.

#2) If you are referring to how you bless someone:

1 John 1:8 Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward. 9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. 10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: 11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

Any thoughts on this and how to get out of this situation?

#1) Withdraw yourself from their company if in the world. Withdraw yourself from their company if the believer or church is unrepentant.

#2) Do not bless someone you know with "God speed" that is living outside God's will.

Oh, Ariel, this makes me think of these words:

Like apples of gold in settings of silver is a word spoken in right circumstances.(Prov. 25:11)
