Ahh yes, Aussies may sometimes call those type "budgie smugglers". The look resembles concealing (smuggling) a type of small- parrot (budgerigar or" budgie", native to Aust. ), in your pants. I don't know who first stole one of those birds in that manner, but the slang term has remained.
