A great and wondrous sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head. 2She was pregnant and cried out in pain as she was about to give birth. 3Then another sign appeared in heaven: an enormous red dragon with seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on his heads. 4His tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the earth. The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that he might devour her child the moment it was born. 5She gave birth to a son, a male child, who will rule all the nations with an iron scepter. And her child was snatched up to God and to his throne. 6The woman fled into the desert to a place prepared for her by God, where she might be taken care of for 1,260 days.

Who is this referring to? Is it the USA?

No it is not the USA . . .

Revelation 12:1-6 KJV And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun (Jesus is the Sun, Malachi 4:2), and the moon (the Church) under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars (the twelve tribes of Israel, Genesis 37:9) And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered. And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon (Satan), having seven heads and ten horns (world empires), and seven crowns upon his heads. And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven (fallen angels), and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman (Israel) which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born. And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron (The Lord Jesus): and her child was caught up unto God (Jesus ascends into heaven, Acts 1:9 and is now seated at the right hand of God the Father, Ephesians 1:19-23), and to his throne. And the woman fled into the wilderness (of the Gentile nations), where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days (it was 1260 years from when the Muslims built the Dome of the Rock on God’s Temple mount, until the new nation of Israel was established).

But I don’t expect the above will make any sense to you unless you have read one of my books on the subject like “Islam in the End Times,” which you can download free from ellisskolfield.com.

Yes I agree with this and the woman would be Israel. It is expected by many who have interpreted Revelations that the last seven years before Christ's return will be divided in two parts. This seven years is commonly referred to as the Tribulation. The first three and a half years is a time of false peace where the Antichrist establishes his government. He is supposed to begin wooing the crowds bringing an end to many global problems with the help of a false prophet. It is believed that Israel will be able to rebuild the Temple during this peace time. Half way through the seven years the Antichrist is supposed to stand in the rebuilt temple and declare himself god. At this point Isreal is instructed to run to the wilderness to a place that was prepared for her for the remaining three and a half years until Christ's return.

Revelation 12:1-6 (KJV)

Just a little info about chapter 12:

Here it mentions a time, or way of life from Gen 1:1 , called the first earth age; and some of the events that happened then are covered in this chapter 12. It also talks about the times we live in now, and leading up to Christ return, known as the Lord's Day or Millennium ( millennium is a word for a 1,000 years )( Revelation 1:10; 2 Peter 3:8 ).
So this covers a large span of time, all in one chapter.

Revelation 12:1-6

1 And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:

This would be mother, Israel . 12 stars should remind you of the 12 tribes of Israel or the twelve sons of Jacob.

2 And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.

The child to be delivered is the Messiah, and the woman delivering the child is the symbol of Israel.

3 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.

This wonder is shown in heaven( leave it there for this verse ) The great red Dragon is Satan-(Rev.13:9). The seven heads and ten horns with crowns describes a political system, or way of life, at a time long past. Meaning something that already happened in the time between Gen 1:"1-2" . Seven heads you can think of as territories of a sovereign or government. The horns with crows are simply ten kings or seats of power over the ten dominions; which the Dragon controlled . ( This verse is describing a time long ago ( past ), where Satan had control over all this earth. It described its political set up. ten kings or whatever, which the dragon has control of, over the world or 7 heads... This is mentioned as a teaching tool or aid, a warning: Because in chapter 13; which is yet future, shows how when God kicks Satan out of heaven , Satan will use a similar system to deceive people on earth, into worshiping him. ( Chapter 13 ).. I have to note, to fully understand Gen 1:2 you have , must, do go into the Hebrew , and see what it says in the original manuscripts. The English will not do in this case for verse 2, of Gen 1:.

4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.

his tail of the dragon, in verse 3, drew a third part ,of all the stars of heaven,( with that political system of verse 3) and caused them to fall to this earth ( where we are to this day ). Stars are simply what God called His children back then ( Job 38:7). Satan deceived them.
"the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born" : This is now, here on earth: fast forward in time to this second age. Israel is established, Christ's time has come to arrive on this earth , through the woman Israel, and the dragon which is Satan ( Rev12:9) is ready to attack Him.

5 And she brought forth a man child,-( Christ ) who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.

The first part to this verse is; Christ coming through Marry as Messiah . The second will be Christ returning as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.(Revelation 2:27; Revelation 19:15 )
she , mother Israel brought forth Christ, that was born of Mary in the little town of Bethlehem. This verse covers two advents ; the first is Christ's birth as a child, and His second coming will be at the seventh trumpet. Then He will come to rule all nations with a rod of iron. Jesus Christ will come as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.(Revelation 11:15).

6 And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.

( Now I am 100% sure of what I wrote above.... But this verse 6, I am a little unsure of. So take it for what it is worth.
This is perhaps talking about our present time in this verse 6, how God's protection is given for the woman Israel. Following the resurrection, and transposing these days into years, it would bring us up to the early 1800's A.D., when the house of Israel's nations, became superpowers. And this is that protection in the wilderness. ( I'm not sure of this last verse , but it makes sense to me )

So this chapter covers a long time span . ( first earth age, present( the second ) and the one to come when Christ returns, that would be the third and final age. )

Correction : in part, of the explanation i wrote for verse 3, """"The horns with crows are simply ten kings or seats of power over the ten dominions; which the Dragon controlled """ I meant to say:>
-( simply ten kings or seats of power "over the 7 dominions" )..Not ten dominions.............\/

That is indeed the Dispensarional position, but the Lord opened His prophetic word anew after the new nation of Israel was established in 1948 and verses used to support the view can now be shown as fulfilled in new Israel. As a result, the Dispensational position now lack biblical support.

Daniels prophesies do not end until the final beast is destroyed by Christ himself returning with all power to destroy the beast and cast him and the false prophet into the lake of fire. And binds satan for 1000 years..Modern isreal is just the begining of the end of prophesy.

????

what? how can the woman give birth to Jesus and be clothed by Jesus at the same time?

Malachi 4 [SUP]2 [/SUP]But to you who fear My name
The Sun of Righteousness shall arise
With healing in His wings;
And you shall go out

the Sun is the Holy Spirit.

Luke 1
[SUP]35 [/SUP]And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. [SUP]36 [/SUP]Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. [SUP]37 [/SUP]For with God nothing will be impossible.”

why do you think that the moon represents the church?

i agree with the rest of what the symbols represent, Its just these two don't fit.

why would the church be the moon under her feet?

It was an OP asking a question, not declaring a definitive conclusion to such. No harm in asking, right? But then again, I guess I can see why some people would be reluctant to ask one now. Kind of like church. Better not to ask unless someone thinks you are making waves or that there is something wrong with you. It is no wonder why there is no growth in churches today with all that steady streaming of patented sermons and lessons while members in the body of Christ have questions they want to know or maybe going through a crisis of faith because of those questions.

If you note, the OP is a newbie here. You probably should apologize so that he may feel free to continue asking questions.

Who is this referring to? Is it the USA?
No. It is not USA.

I would discern with the help of Jesus Christ at that throne of grace...

That the first verse is referencing the pre tribulational rapture event testifying of the nation of Israel:

The second verse being the despensation of the gospel was going back to the Jews, the 144,000 witnesses.

The third verse that because of the pre tribulational rapture event, there would be the rise of the New World Order, the one world government.

The fourth verse testifying to that rise by way of WWIII when one third of the earth will be burned up, and as a result of that war, the dragon was near her by forming a peace treaty to prevent the reign of the King of kings.

The fifth verse is a testimony of that child being Jesus Christ that has ascended into Heaven to be returning soon.

The sixth verse contains the promise for the persecuted remaining saints before His return when the man of desolation reveals himself in the holy of holies somewhat halfway through the great tribulations.

The number of days in that last verse is 1,260 days divide by 365 days a year is what? 3.45 years Hmm.. interesting.

Maybe the Lord Jesus Christ as my Good Shepherd has enabled me to discern this properly or maybe in part... but...

Ask of God and He will help you discern His words and help you confirm or reprove whatever other believers may teach you.

1 Corinthians 13:[SUP]9 [/SUP]For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. [SUP]10 [/SUP]But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. [SUP]11 [/SUP]When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. [SUP]12 [/SUP]For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. [SUP]13 [/SUP]And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

James 1:[SUP]5 [/SUP]If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Hebrews 4:[SUP]12 [/SUP]For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. [SUP]13 [/SUP]Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. [SUP]14 [/SUP]Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. [SUP]15 [/SUP]For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. [SUP]16 [/SUP]Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

1 John 2:[SUP]20 [/SUP]But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things. [SUP]21 [/SUP]I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth....[SUP]25 [/SUP]And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life. [SUP]26 [/SUP]These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you. [SUP]27 [/SUP]But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. [SUP]28 [/SUP]And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

i agree with the rest of what the symbols represent, Its just these two don't fit.

why would the church be the moon under her feet?

this is almost over simplified but unless you want a 3 page commentary this is Matthew Henrys soundbite:

A description of the church of Christ and of Satan, under the figures of a woman and of a great red dragon. (1-6) Michael and his angels fight against the devil and his angels, who are defeated. (7-12) The dragon persecutes the church. (13,14) His vain endeavours to destroy her, He renews his war against her seed. (14-17)

The church, under the emblem of a woman, the mother of believers, was seen by the apostle in vision, in heaven. She was clothed with the sun, justified, sanctified, and shining by union with Christ, the Sun of Righteousness. The moon was under her feet; she was superior to the reflected and feebler light of the revelation made by Moses. Having on her head a crown of twelve stars; the doctrine of the gospel, preached by the twelve apostles, is a crown of glory to all true believers. As in pain to bring forth a holy family; desirous that the conviction of sinners might end in their conversion. A dragon is a known emblem of Satan, and his chief agents, or those who govern for him on earth, at that time the pagan empire of Rome, the city built upon seven hills. As having ten horns, divided into ten kingdoms. Having seven crowns, representing seven forms of government. As drawing with his tail a third part of the stars in heaven, and casting them down to the earth; persecuting and seducing the ministers and teachers. As watchful to crush the Christian religion; but in spite of the opposition of enemies, the church brought forth a manly issue of true and faithful professors, in whom Christ was truly formed anew; even the mystery of Christ, that Son of God who should rule the nations, and in whose right his members partake the same glory. This blessed offspring was protected of God.
