For example most christians know that when the word 'serpent' is mentioned in the bible it is more often than not referring to the physical and spiritual representation of satan.here are a few more:

1.TREE -PHYSICAL PERSON(MARK 8:24) SPIRITUAL BELEIVER(PS 1:3,MATT 3:10,JUDE 12)
2.FRUIT-PHYSICAL OFFSPRING(PS 127:3) SPIRITUAL CONVERTS(PROV 11:30)& FRUITS OF THE SPIRIT
3.SEED-PHYSICAL SPERM/EGG(GEN 4:25, 38:9) SPIRITUAL WORD(LUKE 8:11, MARK 4:14)

They are too numerous to list. I would say this. In Genesis we have a tree of life, this was a real tree but it also had a spiritual meaning. It gave life, it seems to have had the power to give sustenance that would make humans live forever. In Revelation we also have a tree of life. I would venture that it's a real tree, and that it also has a spiritual meaning. It gives life forever.

The curse given...
Genesis 3:18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;

He bore the curse...
John 19:5 Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man!

marrion I like how you think.

Scriptures both old and new are full of these sorts of things. I have never done a study and listed them but I would like to see someone try. God has shown me a few things in scripture that represent Jesus in some way. I can list some of the things God has shown me if you want, but they are not exactly what you are asking for.

Very cool thread! Here's one...
Split-Hoof & Chewing the Cud = Clean Animals.

Physical meaning: Animals with these two qualities were more healthy to eat because they expelled their toxins and ruminated; Leviticus 11.

Spiritual meaning - Split-Hoof: Represents "Splitting a Work" or "Making a Covenant".

- God covenants w/Abraham by passing between the split animals as a "burning torch" (representing male offspring) and "smoking oven" (representing female offspring)...Genesis 15

- God sees a marriage covenant between man & woman when man passing between (i.e. "splits") a woman, prophesying union and "new spiritual life" (physical representation: baby). This would make man and woman's bodies also symbols too.

- The kingdom of God is a split work between Christ's 1st coming & 2nd coming split by the church ("Olive Tree - Lamp stand - Olive Tree"); Zechariah 4

Spiritual meaning - Chewing the Cud (rumination): Represents "Ascending & Descending" of messengers

- Jacob's ladder (envisioning angels ascending & descending from heaven in his dream) Gen 28:10-17.

- Moses ascending & descending several times between God and the people in communication... Exodus 24

- Christ prophesying to Nathaniel that he'll see angels ascending & descending on the son of man; John 1:43-51

- Christ descended during 1st coming; ascended after work was complete; will descend during 2nd coming; and will ascend again.

We are made in the image of God, and there is spiritual symbolism in much of our world.

If we could completely understand the symbolism of only one thing, like numbers, we would gain greatly.

1Cor 6:18
Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

1Thess 4:3
For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:

Rev 17:1,2
Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and talked with me, saying to me, “Come, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits on many waters, with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication.”

God's word is spiritual discerned (1Cor 2:14), so we see fornication in spiritual terms.

Fornication with who?

It's Hagar, who is symbolic of the doctrine of righteousness by works of the law.

Gal 4:21-25
Tell me, you who desire to be under the law, do you not hear the law? For it is written that Abraham had two sons: the one by a bondwoman, the other by a freewoman. But he who was of the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and he of the freewoman through promise, which things are symbolic. For these are the two covenants: the one from Mount Sinai which gives birth to bondage, which is Hagar for this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children

Old: High Priest must be clean and holy before entering the Holy of Holies by an atonement for himself, that he may also make an atonement for the people of Israel and intercede on their behalf before God.

New: Jesus was perfect in humanity and divinity before entering Heaven, that He made an atonement by His own blood on our behalf, and resurrected also that He may enter Heaven to intercede before the Father for us.

danschance I love your list but please elaborate more on the specific meaning of each. For example 'bread' could mean food in the physical and the word of God in the spiritual.

Altars, in the OT. Abraham, Joseph and them built altars to remember certain revelations/things that God did for them; thats the physical. The spiritual - I believe we are to build altars of remembrance in our hearts so that we never forget what God has done for us.

redtent I agree with you.please be a good sport and give us some examples. For example it took me ten years to be born again(2000-2010) and the Lord gave me a dream during which at the end of the dream he hugged me ten times.
3 is perfection,2 or 3 is a witness,12 means government................

breno785au that is awesome.can you share some alters you have in your own life?
I would compare a particular vision the Lord gave me( to let me know I was contending for the faith that was once delivered to the saints)as an alter.
Deliverance from sinful habits would probably count for me too.
I would probably have a lot of alters if I really thought about it an remembered how many times God delivered me.

The name meanings.

Any name that contains "El" or "Ya" or their derivatives are proper names of God, and describes the primary aspect of God that the named person understood. "what he knew about God"
Sets the tone for the person's story.

Examples -
Ezekiel - God is mighty
Jeremiah - God appoints Himself
Jesus - God will save

And that last one is self-definitively the one functional for salvation.

Joshua that's some very interesting information.
I love the story of Jacobs ladder in particular.
Did you learn these correlations in bible study or through your own personal research?

There are hundreds. The serpent on the pole, the Lamb, The axe head in the river, the rod that struck the rock and water flowed. The scarlet thread of rahab. They all point to the cross.

THE VEIL..

And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst.
(Luk 23:45)

Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; And having an high priest over the house of God; Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
(Heb 10:19-22)

The VEIL symbolized limited access to God's presence. Now through the death of Christ (typified by the tearing of the VEIL) we have full access by His blood into His Presence.
