B
Many love to refer to those who claim to prophecy or cast out devils in the context of Mt 7:21-23.
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
However, we have this in the scriptures that must be reckoned with and what do we conclude from this in Mark 9?
38 And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.
39 But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.
40 For he that is not against us is on our part.
Jesus seems to be pretty clear on this and if we continue to examine the scriptures we also see the context of a false prophet and those who cast out devils in his name, as those who are being determined by their fruits. We are to examine the fruit and determine if they are lightly (or speedily) speaking evil of Christ after the miracle is done in his name. That is specific and not ambiguous. The conclusion is also as clear, 'For he that is not against us is on our part'. Are we going to leave room for the possibility that their will be those who cast out devils in his name, who do not speak evil of Christ and who are on Christ's part or our part? We must have discernment as to what is of God and what is not and it seems clear that we are not to be going around rebuking or forbidding or exposing this one and that one for doing miracles or works in Christ's name.
What have some of you have to say on these things?
