When Peter objected to Christ's lethal itinerary, he was no doubt motivated
by a concern for his safety. But of course by doing so, Peter implied that
Jesus must be pretty stupid to just walk right into it. Peter isn't alone. Quite
a few people even today feel that Jesus was stupid to just walk right into it
knowing full well ahead of time the outcome.
The Pharisees, on the other hand, had like zero concern for Christ's safety,
but were intent upon looking for an excuse to have him quite put to death.
If we use Luke 17:20-21 as an indicator, then people today who claim to
have the kingdom of God in them apparently hate Jesus and wish him dead;
because the Pharisees hated him, wanted him dead: and were also children
of the Devil, and children of hell. Boy! if that's what the kingdom of God did
to people, then I would want no part of it in me; that's for sure.
