I read that article and it made me chuckle.
”It divides Christians”.

No, there’s nothing wrong with the game by the way and the idea to get kids to play so they can then learn more …. is a good idea.

A 70 year old man who plays VR games; and you wonder why you haven't been able to land a wife.
OMG, stop and think for once, VR has only been out afew years. Clearly you have never tried it. I find something I like, leave it to a Christian to put it down. LOL

“However, some are upset over the project, saying the idea of pretending to be Christ is blasphemy.”

What part of pretending is not understood? Are actors who portray Christ guilty of blasphemy as well? Pretending to be Christ and proclaiming to be Christ are two completely different entities.

My only concern is that children whose brains are not fully developed and who sometimes have difficulty distinguishing between reality and fantasy pretending to be Jesus or any character in a virtual reality.

Children need to be doing fun, real things in real time in the real world

There are some adults who pretend to be Jesus.

Children should play, work with parents, work with siblings, read and get a good education at home. That doesn't leave a bunch of time to develop a video game addiction.
Yes, children are very easily addicted to such games and it stunts their development.
They should rather develop good habits of reading the Bible and learn about Jesus that way. Dads should lead the family in that respect too. I'm grateful that I had such a good Dad who showed me the love of my heavenly Father.

I think there is an upside and a downside.

You know this is a leisure activity as long as it does not consume all of one's time and become addictive there are probably cognitive benefits to this activity. As well it is fun and exciting.

But, this is a solitary activity so it does nothing to build togetherness.

So John would need to be able to moderate his time playing VR but I think women's reactions will be mixed.

I think you have either raised children or taught them. The video games ingrain long term effects like you mentioned.
We should all look into Jesus, The Author and finisher of our faith Hebrews 12:1...
However, I can't see that happening in the VR games though. A Bible board game like Bible Trivia where there's normal personal interaction with others answering Bible questions seems to me to be a much better type of game.

With all things there are pros and cons.

Video games do develop problem solving strategies. visual memory, it can be a social activity.

My son played video games but he also played soccer, swam competitively, has a double black belt and plays guitar. I think as a parent you need to monitor what they play and how much they play.

I believe there have been actors who have played Jesus that never recovered mentally so while I do not want to be naysayer for adults perhaps proceed with caution.

We have had enough people with Jesus complexes.

Your son is fortunate. It sounds like you have a lot of influence in his life. Most parents leave that up to the schools and peers these days it seems. TV and video games have turned into a convenient sitter to many and I've seen some harm from that. Your son has enough good physical and mental activities. I think that is a good thing.
