I may be slow; some one I know mentioned a movie she saw. it had to do with a catholic priest and exorcisms .
where I thought before , it felt clear now.
Jesus preached , taught, spoke against rituals. to remove a demon did not involve holy water, tying the person up, for days months praying and splashing , making crosses with oil, or holding crosses over them.
and nothing else about Jesus was ritual, it was Talk to your Father in Heaven, In my name ask and you will receive. not pray to a saint or rosary , or repeat ritual words in church.
many have joined this behavior , like the Pharisees, Sadducees, to look important or ritual to others in the name of God
The miracles of the bible were immediate, most people tend to forget that. There was no working toward a miracle (ex. exercise, chemotherapy, gradual change). Now Jesus did, at times, tell someone to do something or did something himself, but the miracle itself was instantaneous.
We must also consider this story:
Acts 19:11-17
[SUP]
11 [/SUP]God was performing extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul,
[SUP]12 [/SUP]so that handkerchiefs or aprons were even carried from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out. [SUP]
13 [/SUP]But also some of the Jewish exorcists, who went from place to place, attempted to name over those who had the evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, “I adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preaches.” [SUP]
14 [/SUP]Seven sons of one Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. [SUP]
15 [/SUP]And the evil spirit answered and said to them, “I recognize Jesus, and I know about Paul, but who are you?” [SUP]
16 [/SUP]
And the man, in whom was the evil spirit, leaped on them and subdued all of them and overpowered them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.[SUP]
17 [/SUP]This became known to all, both Jews and Greeks, who lived in Ephesus; and fear fell upon them all and the name of the Lord Jesus was being magnified.
I do believe that miracles can and are done today. But if you are thinking about "performing a miracle", you might want to consider whether God is with you, as He is the One doing the miracle, and not the man.
Many of the "miracles" that are claimed today are faked or are things that happened that are misrepresented as being miracles. Again, I am not saying that miracles don't happen, but that things that are not miracles are called miracles, which, quite frankly, lessens the meaning of miracles to non-believers and Christians alike.
A miracle is an extraordinary event/occurrence that happens immediately. I would consider conception a miracle much more than someone getting better after months of exercise and treatment. I am not saying that God cannot play a role in the healing process, but gradual healing is not a characteristic of a miracle, in my opinion.
Someone falling from a plane and surviving in Intensive Care for months/years would not be a miracle. Someone falling from a plane and not getting hurt at all would be much more like a miracle. Like we see with Paul, when he was bite by a snake. He did not show any symptoms at all.
